‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’ Gets a New Release Date

0

Since the pandemic started, many movies have had release dates pushed back. For once, we have the opposite news! According to Deadline, Godzilla Vs. Kong, directed by Adam Wingard and written by Terry Rossio, will be moving its release date up to March 26 instead of May 21. The move-up is part of an agreement between Warner Bros. and Legendary, the movie’s financer, in order to avoid legal entanglements.

The description for the movie can be found below:

The epic next chapter in the cinematic Monsterverse pits two of the greatest icons in motion picture history against one another – the fearsome Godzilla and the mighty Kong – with humanity caught in the balance.

The movie will release simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters.

With the pandemic raging on, new movies are harder to come by these days. However, just because there aren’t new releases doesn’t mean that something can’t be new to you. Many old movies are making a comeback, and Adventures of Power, starring Shoshannah Stern, is no exception.

This 2008 comedy has recently been added to Amazon Prime. The description for it can be found below. Happy watching!

ADVENTURES OF POWER is an epic comedy about a mine-worker named Power whose love of drums and lack of musical skill has turned him into the ridiculed “air drummer” of his small town. But when Power’s union-leader father calls a strike at the mine, Power discovers an underground subculture of air-drummers who just might hold the key to changing the world. Power’s journey across America brings him face-to-face with his town’s greatest enemy, and allows him to discover the beat within his own heart.

Recap: Diana Finds a Teacher in ‘A Discovery of Witches’ Season 2, Episode 2

In last week’s episode of A Discovery of Witches, Matthew and Diana successfully timewalked back to Elizabethan London. Diana learned that in the year 1590, her vampire partner lived as the mysterious Matthew Roydon of the School of Night. As Matthew attempted to reorient himself with friends and duties that he had long since left in the past, Diana realized there are several challenges that she will be facing with their current circumstances. Keep reading to find out what happened in the second episode of season 2.

Sept-Tours, Present Day

We open at the de Clermont family home, Sept-Tours, where Sarah and Em are staying. Ysabeau appears to be handling the cohabitation as expected, while Marthe is attempting to make the best of it.

London, 1590

Lord Burghley is questioning a prisoner and asking him if the witches are turning against the queen when Matthew arrives at the Tower. The man, frightened, states that they’re loyal. They continue to torture him anyway.

Finland, Present Day

Satu returns home to see her mother, and it appears that she has been away for quite some time. She inquires why her mother never taught her who she is, despite teaching her everything else, and her mother says that it was to protect her. Satu makes it clear that she doesn’t want protection. She wants to understand. Her mother implores her to stay and become the weaver she was born to be.

London, 1590

Diana and Matthew sit with Walter and Henry, and they ponder whether an acquaintance of theirs that practices alchemy — Mary Sidney — can be of some help in their quest to find a teacher for Diana.

Matthew brings Diana to meet Mary. As the two chat, Diana’s attention momentarily strays, and she accidentally makes a snake manifest from an embroidered design on Mary’s shoes. Matthew is then quick to cut to the chase, and he tells Mary that they’re in need of a witch. Mary politely rebuffs him and says that although she learned that he was a vampire from her brother, she’d like to remain ignorant to the existence of creatures. Even if she ultimately cannot help them, she still warmly offers Diana her friendship.

Matthew reports to Lord Burghley and receives orders to question a witch being held at the Tower — Tom Caldwell — in order to find out what the witches are plotting. As he leaves, Matthew runs into another issue when he receives a message from Father Hubbard’s men: both he and Diana have been summoned.

Upon returning home, Matthew explains to Diana that Andrew Hubbard is a vampire that rules over the city of London. The priest became a vampire after the Black Death. It is unknown who turned him, and he claimed divine resurrection when it happened. Since then, he has spent his time gathering up and helping the lost souls of the city, but he also controls them. Though the de Clermonts and Father Hubbard have a treaty, Diana falls outside of the diplomatic immunity and must now face him.

Father Hubbard dismisses his followers when Diana and Matthew arrive. He’s quick to notice the bite marks on Diana’s neck and notes that if the witches find out that Matthew has fed from her, he will be put to death. And on the other hand, if Diana gave her blood willingly, she will be cast out of England. However, if Diana allows him to feed upon her so that she may become family, she will be under Father Hubbard’s protection (though Matthew will allow no such thing). To Matthew’s displeasure, Diana outright tells Father Hubbard that she fed Matthew willingly in order to save his life. He accepts this answer but warns her that nothing happens in the city without his blessing.

The next day, Kit finds Matthew at church and encourages him to come and have some fun. Meanwhile, Diana is out with Francoise when she comes across Mistress Norman again. She apologizes for the other day and asks her to come back to the house again since Matthew isn’t there. The other witch agrees and tasks Diana with moving the contents of an egg into a nearby bowl without using her hands. Instead, Diana uses her magic to speed up the aging process of the egg, and a chick hatches from it. At this, the witch finally agrees to go and speak with her head of coven and England’s most powerful witch, Goody Alsop.

Matthew and Kit have taken their festivities to the tavern, and Matthew ends up re-piercing his ear after a game of cards — “See, now you look like Matthew Roydon.” As they leave, one of Lord Burghley’s men finds them and inquires about why Matthew has not yet begun questioning the witch at the Tower. Kit then tries to ask Matthew about the future, but the vampire refuses to speak on it.

Mistress Norman brings Diana and Matthew to meet Goody Alsop, and the woman remarks, “I have waited a long time for you, Diana.” Goody then explains that she, Susanna, and Diana are all that’s left of their kind. Their kind being … weavers, makers of spells. Diana is very hesitant to believe this due to her utter lack of aptitude for magic, and Matthew remarks that he has never met a weaver in all of his years. Goody tells him that weavers are rare creatures, and they have been hunted down and forced into hiding. Diana begins to wonder if this is what provoked Satu’s attack on her.

Upon observing Diana, Goody is able to tell that her father was a self-taught weaver. Diana asks Goody to be her teacher, but Mistress Norman objects. She says that it will attract too much attention, and they will need to consult the council of witches. Though Matthew is not thrilled with the idea, Goody confirms that their consent will be necessary to proceed.

Goody and Mistress Norman bring Diana to meet the other witches. She pleads her case with them, stating that she was spellbound and now she needs a community of witches to help her learn the full nature of her power. Though the other witches, including Mistress Norman, are apprehensive and don’t seem open to the idea, Goody steps up in Diana’s defense. She reminds them all that dark times are coming, and Diana is the witch that has long been prophesized to come to their aid. Diana then manages to get everyone’s attention when she admits that she is a time spinner from the future, and she tells them that she has seen the Book of Life with her own eyes. Despite their unease at Diana’s connections to a vampire, she makes it clear that her relationship to her magic, to Matthew, and to the book are woven together … one cannot exclude the other. And so she is welcomed into their circle.

Father Hubbard finds Matthew in the streets, tells him that Tom Caldwell is innocent, and asks him to use his influence to address the matter. He also threatens to get Philippe de Clermont involved. Matthew returns to the house and angrily rants to Kit about the tangled mess that he’s found himself in — Father Hubbard wants the man freed, yet Lord Burghley wants him to extract a confession from him and then put him to death. Kit believes that Philippe he will be able to handle the situation, but Matthew is worried that everything will come undone if his father finds out about Diana.

“Matthew Roydon is never cruel for sport, but he is ruthlessly efficient. Do not impersonate Matthew Roydon. Become him.”

As a result of Kit’s counsel, Matthew does the only thing he can think to do — he kills Tom Caldwell swiftly and without questioning. It was the most merciful thing that he could do, given the situation. If Tom survived, he wouldn’t have been able to keep Diana safe.

As the episode comes to a close, Father Hubbard and his followers mourn the death of Tom Caldwell. Father Hubbard then gives a man a sealed letter with instructions to deliver it directly to Philippe de Clermont. Lord Burghley, meanwhile, furiously demands an explanation from Matthew. “Perhaps you have reason to side with a traitor … to support the witches.”

Episode 3 of the second season of A Discovery of Witches will be available on Sundance Now, AMC Plus, and Shudder on Saturday, January 23. Check out the rest of our season 2 recaps here.

Recap: Everything Is Not As It Seems In ‘WandaVision’ Episode 2 “Don’t Touch That Dial”

The second episode of WandaVision continues the hilarity of the first, with Wanda and Vision both attempting to “fit in” in their own ways. But everything is not as it seems as their idyllic life is interrupted by an outside force. What the source of that manipulation is isn’t clear yet, but this episode introduces several interesting clues for viewers as well as introducing a hilarious sitcom plot with some fantastic physical comedy by Paul Bettany.

We open on a familiar sitcom trope: Wanda and Vision in separate beds as Wanda is startled awake by a noise from outside. After banter about Wanda using her powers to turn on the lights as Vision uses his to turn them back off, he gets up to investigate. Vision doesn’t see anything, but the noises continue and frighten them both, with Wanda moving their beds together in terror in a hilarious bit of physical comedy. The source of the noise is revealed to be a tree hitting the window, relieving them both. Wanda makes their separate beds into one, with Vision suggestively saying “Wanda, darling…get the light” before both disappear under the covers. We get a new opening sequence and set that moves the show into a new decade.

The next day, Vision is doing magic tricks with Wanda as his assistant. It’s revealed they are practicing for a neighborhood talent show. Vision is worried that the neighbors will see through their tricks since they are human and not making use of their powers. Wanda remarks that “in a real magic act, everything is fake,” not worried about how their act will look but more worried about whether their neighbors will accept them. She says this town is their home now, and that she wants to fit in. Vision reassures her that they already do, and that this act will help. Vision heads off to work and to a neighborhood watch meeting. After last night’s incident, he wants to make sure their new home is safe. Wanda wryly tells him to “show those tree branches who’s boss” before kissing him goodbye.

Alone, Wanda hears the strange noise again while tidying the house. Walking outside to investigate, she notices a red toy helicopter in their bushes. It’s the only colorful object we’ve seen so far, and she is puzzled. The music turns ominous as Wanda studies the toy, but the spell is broken by the arrival of Agnes and her pet rabbit. She’s loaning the rabbit to Wanda and Vision for the magic act, and in one of the best lines of the episode tells Wanda that “Senor Scruffy loves the stage, he was baby Jesus in last year’s Christmas pageant!” Wanda vows to take good care of him before dropping him off inside.

She and Agnes head to a planning committee meeting for the talent show. Agnes warns Wanda that Dottie, who will lead the meeting, is the key to having a social life in Westview. In an effort to impress Dottie, Wanda resorts to copying her every mannerism down to how she stirs her drink. Throughout this scene, Agnes is adding alcohol to her drink in a subtly funny bit as she makes snarky remarks to Wanda and the audience. Dottie immediately notices Wanda talking to another one of the women at the meeting and admonishes her. But Wanda continues to talk to Geraldine, who is as much a fish out of water as she is. “Geraldine” is actually Monica Rambeau, whose last appearance in the MCU was as a child in Captain Marvel. But the characters don’t know this, and it remains to be seen how she fits into Wandvision‘s overall plan. Dottie fixes her glare on the two and notes that she’s “irritated,” stopping the chatter.

Vision is also having a rough go of it at the neighborhood watch meeting. His analytical brain is busy dreaming up the best security protocols, but the other men mostly use the meetings as an excuse to eat Danish pastries and gossip. In a great bit of slapstick, Vision accepts a piece of gum but accidentally swallows it, with the gum getting stuck in his machinery. Back at the country club, Wanda is “honored” with the task of helping Dottie clean up. She tries to apologize, saying that she thinks they’ve gotten off on the wrong foot. But the tone shifts again when Wanda says she doesn’t mean any harm, and Dottie turns deadly serious before saying “I don’t believe you.” A strange, staticky voice appears on the radio before the song returns, and Dottie is scared. She turns to Wanda and asks, “who is that? what are you?” The voice calls out again to Wanda specifically this time, asking her “who is doing this to you?” The radio short circuits as Dottie shatters a glass. The blood on Dottie’s hand is bright red. But as Wanda grabs a napkin to help her, Dottie returns to her chipper, sitcom self, confusing Wanda. We also see a brief fake commercial for a Strucker watch (featuring Hydra’s logo) with the slogan “He’ll make time … for you.”

At the talent show, Wanda is nervously pacing waiting for Vision to arrive. Geraldine tries to relax her, but Wanda’s worried he won’t show up. But it turns out Vision is just having problems moving around due to the gum (Paul Bettany’s ability to use his body to play up the comedy here is brilliant and reminiscent of sitcom legend Dick Van Dyke.) He’s stumbling around with the appearance that he’s drunk, and when Wanda tries to mention what happened with Dottie he doesn’t pay attention. Soon, it’s their time in the spotlight, and it goes about as well as you’d expect. Vision rambles incoherently as Wanda watches, horrified. Even worse, Vision begins to float, exposing his powers. Wanda thinks quickly and uses her own powers to make the audience think Vision is flying due to a rope suspended from a rigging setup. As Vision’s powers go haywire, Wanda must keep using her own to mask the true origin of these magic tricks. It culminates in a trick where Wanda summons Geraldine into a closed box, much to Geraldine’s surprise. The audience cheers, and it seems the act is saved. Backstage, Wanda figures out what’s ailing Vision and removes the gum, restoring him to his normal self. They try to sneak away unnoticed, but Dottie calls them out from the stage. She loved the act, assuming it was meant to be a comedy routine. She declares them the winners, and everyone cheers.

At home, Wanda and Vision are both relieved it’s all over. Wanda goes to get popcorn for their movie night, but when she turns around she’s suddenly pregnant. Wanda is only slightly surprised, and tenderly asks “is this really happening?” Vision kisses her and says it really is, before they are interrupted again by the noise.

The two rush outside to see that a sewer cover is moving. As Wanda and Vision look on, scared, a person in a beekeeper’s suit emerges, covered in bees. The man’s face is obscured as he turns to Wanda. But Wanda simply says “no,” and the tape rewinds to her asking Vision if “this is really happening?” This time, no noise interrupts them, but after Wanda kisses Vision, his face is colorful again. Slowly, the whole room fills with color as Wanda and Vision look on, amazed. We fade out on the couple kissing as the voice from earlier repeats “Wanda? Who’s doing this to you, Wanda?”

Episodes 1 and 2 of Wandavision are available on Disney+ now, with episode 3 premiering Friday, January 22.

Predictions and Theories for Season 2 of ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’

With the return of FOX’s first responder series, 9-1-1: Lone Star, right around the corner, we are going through different aspects of storylines that could be possible for the show’s sophomore season. From COVID to the introduction of the 126’s newest paramedic captain, as well as a death in the 126 to the highly-anticipated crossover with parent series 9-1-1, and more. We are sharing our theories and predictions for what could possibly happen in the upcoming season of Lone Star!

Warning: Spoilers for 9-1-1: Lone Star‘s first season ahead!

COVID

Courtesy of FOX.

Just like with a handful of shows, 9-1-1: Lone Star is incorporating the Coronavirus pandemic into the storyline. We already know that the season will be at least a few months into the pandemic, and by the looks of some of the trailers and pictures, the 126 will be living a new way of life. One thing that the most recent video for the season preview is that one of the calls seemed to be happening during a Zoom meeting. This surely won’t be the only one that will be witnessed on a Zoom call, but it will be interesting to see just how the people on the Zoom reacts. As mentioned below, Gwyneth Morgan, Owen’s ex-wife, and T.K.’s mother will be quarantined with them. Seeing how the Strand family dynamic is will be something that fans can look forward to, and seeing how everyone else quarantines could either be good or bad for the team. It also raises the question if anyone will be catching the virus, considering some are more high-risk than others, and being a firefighter/paramedic means being on the front lines. The emotional aspect of the pandemic could be significant for the season as well.

Owen and Gwyneth’s Rekindling

Courtesy of FOX.

With Lisa Edelstein joining the cast this season as Owen’s ex-wife and T.K.’s mother, Gwyneth, it’ll be interesting to see how she and Owen reconnect while spending time in quarantine together. As reported earlier, Gwyneth made the trip down to Austin from New York to be with T.K. after the shooting, but recent promos suggest that that is not all Gwyneth came to Austin for. The timing couldn’t more perfect as Gwyneth has to then quarantine with Owen and T.K. during the Coronavirus pandemic. However, it doesn’t seem like Gwyneth minds being with her ex under the same roof. Could the former married couple find love with each other once again? It wouldn’t be surprising since the quarantine has been known to make or break relationships.

Owen’s Cancer

Courtesy of FOX.

One of the first season’s major plot points was Owen’s progressing lung cancer that he had gotten diagnosed with due to being at Ground Zero when the towers went down. With the Coronavirus now part of the storyline, Owen has a greater risk of catching it. Paired with the fact that Owen is also going through chemo, it’s a greater chance that Owen could be getting sick, either from the virus or from his cancer. Even though it seems like he’ll still very much be leading his firehouse on calls, could this mean that his cancer will have an even bigger part this season? Since Rob Lowe is the staple of the show, it would be hard for writers to make it that something terrible happens to Owen that he doesn’t even come back, but anything is possible in the world of 9-1-1.

Goodbye Michelle Blake, Hello Tommy Vega

Courtesy of FOX.

When it was announced that Liv Tyler would be exiting the series before season 2, many questioned how they would address it in the show. The previous season ended with Tyler’s character, Michelle, finally being reunited with her sister, Iris, after three long years. Her storyline is essentially finished, and showrunner Tim Minear has said that just like with Connie Britton in 9-1-1, the door will always be open for Tyler to return, making it seem like Michelle won’t be killed off. They could say that Michelle simply wanted to reconnect with her sister, or, due to COVID, she wanted to stay with her mother. Whatever reason it is that Michelle has left the 126 will undoubtedly be addressed in the season premiere.

When one captain leaves, another shall take its place. Suits alum Gina Torres has joined the cast for the second season, and her character, Tommy Vega, will be the newest Paramedic Captain for the 126. According to her character description, Tommy was retired but is now returning to help with COVID, and her husband’s restaurant has gone under due to the virus. Seeing how Tommy fits into the 126 will be something fans can look forward to, though by the looks of a recent sneak peek, that doesn’t seem to be a problem. How her family handles the Coronavirus and seeing how hers and her husband’s jobs affect their daughters will be an interesting storyline.

A Death in the 126

Courtesy of FOX.

One of the second season trailers previewed an emotional and intense start, including the 126 mourning the loss of one of their own. A few promos do show that while taking a call that involves lava at the bottom of a pool, and a soon-disrupting volcano, one of the members of the 126 is shown getting hit directly with lava rock, but there is no telling who. From cast pictures on Instagram, it looks like all of the main crew is well and accounted for, or are they? They could be posting older photos to cover up the fact that one of them may be killed off, or it could be that a lesser-known member of the 126 will be dying, seeing that there are other members of the firehouse that don’t get much screen time. Whatever the scenario may be, it doesn’t seem like Lone Star will be slowing down for its sophomore season. Make sure to have tissues on standby this season.

Crossover

Courtesy of FOX.

When it was officially announced by Minear that a crossover between 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star was happening, it was only a matter of time before fans were theorizing what was going to happen when the 118 and 126 collide. Although not much is known about the crossover, we know that Buck, Hen, and Eddie will be traveling from their Los Angeles firehouse to help their Austin brothers and sisters during a massive wildfire. FOX announced the premiere date to be February 1, so while fans still have a few more weeks to go, it still gives them plenty of time to hope that they will see their favorites interact with each other. Maybe Buck and Eddie will hang out with T.K. and Carlos? Or perhaps Hen could be swapping “war” stories with Marjan and Tommy. And with the crossover confirmed to be taking place in Texas, could Eddie take a detour to El Paso and see his family? The highly-anticipated crossover will be one for the books, and it will be great seeing the 118 and 126 finally sharing the screen.

‘Batwoman’ and ‘Superman and Lois’ Crossover Canceled For This Year

It’s a sad day for fans of the CWverse, formerly known as the Arrowverse before The CW’s rebranding last year.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the plan to have a Batwoman/Superman & Lois crossover this year has been scrapped due to COVID-19. Furthermore, there will be no major CWverse crossover like the Crisis on Infinite Earths series fans are used to this year.

While there was no plan to have a major crossover this year anyway, the pandemic solidified the plan to no longer move forward with the smaller crossover event due to the logistical nightmare and difficulties related to safety protocols that would arise. However, John Diggle (David Ramsey) is still set to make guest appearances on The Flash, Supergirl, Superman & Lois, Batwoman, and even DC’s Legends of Tomorrow in some capacity.

While this may be disappointing, safety comes first. Batwoman returns Sunday, January 17 while Superman & Lois debuts on February 23.
