Lisa Edelstein to Join ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ in Recurring Role for Season 2

It’s a reunion 21 years in the making. Lisa Edelstein, who recurred on the first season of NBC’s The West Wing as Laurie, a love interest for Rob Lowe’s Sam Seaborn, will be joining her former co-star in the second season of FOX’s 9-1-1: Lone Star, Deadline exclusively reported.

After just hearing about Mama Strand throughout the first season and that she’s a lawyer, fans will finally meet her in the upcoming season. Edelstein will play Gwenyth, Captain Owen Strand’s (Lowe) ex-wife and T.K.’s (Ronen Rubinstein) mother. Gwenyth, living in New York, will visit Austin to be with T.K. after he was shot and hospitalized towards the end of last season.

9-1-1: Lone Star follows a sophisticated New York firefighter, Owen who, along with his son, T.K., relocates to Austin and must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable while solving the problems in his own life. Brian Michael Smith, Jim Parrack, Natacha Karam, Julian Works, Sierra McClain, and Rafael Silva also star in the series.

Edelstein joins Suits alum, Gina Torres, who was also recently announced to recur in season two as Paramedic Captain Tommy Vega. The news also comes just days after it was announced that Liv Tyler, who played opposite of Lowe last season as Paramedic Captain Michelle Blake, will be exiting the series ahead of season two due to uncertainties with travel and family because of COVID-19.

Other than The West Wing, Edelstein starred in House and headlined Bravo’s first scripted dramedy The Girlfriends’ Guide, which ran for five seasons. She also recently recurred on ABC’s The Good Doctor.

Season two of 9-1-1: Lone Star is expected to begin production on October 12 and set to premiere sometime in early 2021 on FOX. Season one is currently available to stream on Hulu and the FOXNOW app. Stay tuned for more news about 9-1-1: Lone Star!
