‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Premiere Date Announced

The infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett made a surprising and welcome return in season 2 of the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian, which immediately left audiences wanting more. Despite his overall lack of screen time in the films, he’s been a fan favorite character for decades.

As luck would have it, the end-credit sequence of the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian came bearing the news we were all waiting for — The Book of Boba Fett. While we’ve known that the series was due to land on the streaming service sometime in December, Disney+ has finally confirmed that the premiere date will be Wednesday, December 29. The first piece of key art for the show has also been shared.

The Book of Boba Fett will find legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and mercenary Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) navigating the galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate.

Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson are the executive producers on the series, and Karen Gilchrist and Carrie Beck serve as co-executive producers. John Bartnicki produces and John Hampian serves as co-producer.

‘DC’s Stargirl’ Recap: Season 2, Episode 8 “Summer School: Chapter 8”

In this week’s episode of DC’s Stargirl, Eclipso finds two more victims in Beth and Rick as he makes their worst nightmares a vivid reality. The show adds even more horror and shows that Eclipso is the most terrifying threat the JSA has faced. What does this mean for the rest of the season? Read on to see what happened in “Summer School: Chapter 8”!

Courtney Struggles

Kyle Kaplan/The CW

After last week’s episode, Yolanda has officially decided to resign from the JSA and give up her role as Wildcat. At the start of the episode, Yolanda drops off her Wildcat suit at Courtney’s house as Courtney resolves to convince her friend to rejoin the JSA. Mike blames Eclipso and wants Courtney to go after the villain to bring the JSA back together. But losing Yolanda is a tough blow, especially since “Cosmo,” her staff, isn’t at full power. She admits to Pat that she feels useless, and it’s clear Courtney isn’t sure how to help her friends.

Rick Gives In to Eclipso

The CW

At the start of the episode, Miss Woods goes to Rick to apologize for what happened between them. She offers him college brochures and advice, telling him that she also used college to escape a tough life. But Matt interrupts, making fun of Rick’s plans. Rick goes to visit Solomon Grundy, and it’s clear he wants to give the monster a chance to become good because he sees himself as a monster. Grundy listens sympathetically (or at least, he appears to).

But Eclipso has plans for Rick. As Rick leaves, he hears two hunters talking about killing a bear. When Rick investigates to try to protect Grundy after calling Courtney and Pat for back-up, the hunters tell him a young girl is missing and potentially injured. Rick doesn’t want to believe Grundy could be behind it and rushes to find the girl. He sees Grundy standing by the edge of the water with the girl’s body lying in the river, his hands covered in blood. Enraged, Rick activates the hourglass as Courtney and Pat arrive. Grundy leaves with Rick in pursuit, but when Pat goes to the girl’s body, it turns out to be Rebecca McNider.

Courtney and Pat rush after Rick, who is beating Grundy to a pulp. But when Courtney uses the staff to knock Rick away, the illusion is broken. Rick wasn’t attacking Grundy: he was attacking Matt, and Matt is critically injured. Grundy didn’t hurt anyone, and everything Rick saw was an illusion. As a horrified Rick shatters the hourglass, the police arrive and arrest him for assault as Pat and Courtney look on, unable to help.

Beth Faces Her Fears

The CW

But Eclipso didn’t just target Rick. Beth also had a showdown with the villain, but her battle ended in a better place for the new Dr. Mid-Nite. As the episode begins, Beth finally reaches Dr. McNider, and the two talk about her use of the goggles. He reveals that he has a pair of goggles that are linked to hers, and that he is in The Shadowlands. The signal cuts out before he can say more.

Beth makes her way downstairs, where her parents finally talk to her about the divorce. But something is off. Her parents begin to blame Beth’s birth for their marital struggles, and Beth sees maggots in her food (classic horror movie move that never fails to gross me out). She rushes to the Whitmore house, where creepy kid/Eclipso stand-in Bruce is waiting. Bruce unleashes a racist and sexist tirade at Beth that is designed to make her feel less than. He points out that all the other JSA members were chosen whereas she wasn’t chosen by anyone. But Beth is able to resist his illusions and fights back using the goggles. As she pushes Eclipso out of her head, she tells him exactly what she thinks of his abhorrent worldview.

“Is that what you need me to do? Give into my worst fear, that I’m an outsider? Because I won’t. I’m strong, I’m proud … and I chose myself to be Doctor Mid-Nite. I chose me. Oh, and I love being Black! … I’m the new Doctor Mid-Nite.”

Beth’s parents arrive home, and Beth tells them about how she feels like an outsider and that she’s trying to be someone she’s not. Beth’s mother discusses her experiences as Blue Valley’s first Black doctor and reassures Beth that she is good enough just the way she is.

Hell Freezes Over

The CW

While Pat and Courtney are out trying to help Rick, Barbara fills Mike in on Eclipso’s visions. Mike wants to know how they can help, and Barbara tells him they just have to be there for Courtney and Pat. As they hug, the Whitmore house is covered in ice …

DC’s Stargirl airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. You can find our other coverage of the series here!

WATCH: Jake Gyllenhaal Talks ‘The Guilty’ and More on ‘LIVE with Kelly and Ryan’

On September 28, Jake Gyllenhaal appeared on LIVE with Kelly and Ryan. He talked with host Kelly Ripa and guest host Mark Consuelos about The Guilty, broadway, running into Mysterio, and more. Check out the clips below!

Gyllenhaal has spent quite a bit of time on the broadway stage these past couple of years with Sea Wall/A Life and the planned Sunday in the Park with George before the pandemic began. In the clip above, the hosts were eager to see if Gyllenhaal plans to return to broadway soon.

Above, we see Gyllenhaal further discuss his broadway career. Specifically, we see the actor discuss the time he was almost able to cast his beloved German Shepherd, Leo, alongside him on the stage.

Following a clip from Gyllenhaal’s upcoming Netflix film The Guilty, the hosts ask the Brokeback Mountain actor for details on the upcoming film. Reluctant to give too much away about this thriller, Gyllenhaal is scarce with details as viewers can see above. The Guilty releases on Netflix October 1.

Following 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home in which Gyllenhaal starred as infamous villain Mysterio, Gyllenhaal recently ran into the villain himself while in Venice for the 2021 Venice International Film Festival. Check out the clip above to see the photos that came out of that interaction!

“The Celestial Visitor”

Shane Harvey/The CW

Written by: Melinda Hsu Taylor, Noga Landau, and Cameron Johnson

Directed by: Ruben Garcia

  • Welcome, Tom Swift! This episode serves as a fabulous introduction to the character, who will officially be leading his own spin-off series next year. He’s so fun to watch, and while I look forward to seeing his own adventures, his chemistry with the Drew Crew makes me hope that he’ll stop by Horseshoe Bay for a crossover or two.
  • The first scene of the Drew Crew noticing all the strange happenings while George accidentally causes Bess to puke green bile is hilarious and directed well. Ruben Garcia is an expert at staging action, and it really set the tone for Tom’s first appearance.
  • I look forward to more of Tom’s relationship with his AI Barclay. There’s even a tribute to LeVar Burton, the actor who voices him!
  • If Tom’s one-liners in this episode are any indication, Tom Swift is going to be one funny show. A few highlights: “You met some white people? Got into this nonsense? Tiger Woods Syndrome, we understand.” “Straight men love an excuse to put on a dress, don’t they?” “I feel like we’ve maxed out on secret societies.” “You have a mobile witch library?” “I went to MIT, and you went to a thrift store to buy that hat.”
  • Our first Tom Swift book Easter egg: his license plate is the publication date for the first Tom Swift novel.
  • This episode features a possessed Bess swordfighting with Ace, a concept that is so fantastic that I’d like to personally thank whichever writer pitched it.
  • George and Nick’s relationship is unique for a teen drama in the way that both tackle their issues so honestly and work through them together. Nancy Drew addresses tension within interracial relationships so well in this episode, and Tunji Kasim and Leah Lewis both give great performances.
  • Of all the ways to come out to your father, kissing Nick Nickerson live on social media has got to rank pretty high on the list of options.
  • We learn a lot about The Road Back’s origins in this episode, but there’s a lot we still don’t know about their agenda today. We also learn more about their connection to the Women in White. Tom’s right: this town has way too many secret societies.
  • Tom Swift’s adventures will continue in 2022 on The CW! For more of our coverage of the spin-off, head here.

“The Purloined Keys”

Shane Harvey/The CW

Written by: Jesse Stern and Katherine DiSavino

Directed by: Jeff W. Byrd

  • This episode contains one of the biggest twists of the season with Celia’s death and her ghost haunting Nancy. Like so many of this show’s twists, it makes completely sense in hindsight but the viewer doesn’t see it coming. It sets up Nancy’s arc in the last two episodes very well, and it’s a worthy farewell episode for Celia.
  • Poor Bess deserves to find a gorgeous lady who treats her like a queen. It’s so heartwarming to see George trying to help her move on from Odette by boosting her confidence (with Odette’s help).
  • Nancy’s nightmare is visually stunning. The dress and Nancy’s makeup stand out against the blood and create a nightmarish scene. When Nancy Drew goes full horror, it works. Also, that Balmain dress is fabulous.
  • Fun fact: Taser is an acronym for “Tom A. Swift Electric Rifle”! The inventor of the Taser was a big fan of the Tom Swift books as a child. I’m sure that’s why Nancy picked it as her weapon of choice, right?
  • Nancy’s full turn to Dark Nancy with her final look to camera is one of the best “breaking the fourth wall” moments on the show, much like her look to camera after she accidentally releases the monsters from Hannah’s drawers.
  • New ship alert: Ryan and Val seal it with a kiss! Hopefully this won’t be the last we see of Val Samuels.
  • Ryan’s one liners are always welcome, and he gets a great one in this episode: “I’m sorry, I thought the bribe was implied.”
  • Welcome, Bertram Bobbsey! The Bobbsey connection to the Hudsons is interesting, and it’s great how we get to see Amanda and Gil’s father in a new light.

Thoughts From the Mobile Witch Library

Colin Bentley/The CW
  • In these last few episodes, Nancy Drew begins setting up season 3’s mysteries, like The Road Back, The Women in White, and Temperance Hudson. If Celia’s death is any indication, The Road Back are not to be messed with. It will definitely be interesting to see where it all goes this coming season!
  • Ryan teaming up with the Drew Crew sets the stage for his collaboration with them in season 3, and I just love when Ryan is a part of the group dynamic.

What did we miss? Let us know in the comments! Seasons 1 and 2 of Nancy Drew are available now on HBO Max. Be sure to catch up on episodes 17 and 18 of season 2 for next week’s final rewatch! You can also watch the first trailer for season 3 here.
