Tom Swift fans, rejoice! The CW has officially ordered Tom Swift straight to series on the strength of its backdoor pilot, which aired as part of Nancy Drew season 2 this past spring.

According to the synopsis released by The CW, the series will follow Tom as he seeks the truth behind his father’s disappearance.

“‘Tom Swift’ follows the serialized adventures of the titular Black, gay, billionaire inventor, who is thrust into a world of sci-fi conspiracy and unexplained phenomena after the shocking disappearance of his father. Tom takes to the road on a quest to unravel the truth, leaving behind the comforts of his usual moneyed lifestyle, all while fighting to stay one step ahead of an Illuminati-scale group hell-bent on stopping him. Tom’s missions will require his genius and flair for innovation guided by love, romance, friendship and the mysteries of the universe yet-unsolved.”

Tom Swift makes history as the first network series to have a Black, gay, male lead. It will star Tian Richards in the title role with Melinda Hsu Taylor, Noga Landau, and Cameron Johnson creating the series. The CW has not announced a premiere date but did state the show is expected to arrive during the 2021-22 season.
