‘Roadfood’: Where To Watch Misha Collins’ New PBS Show

0

November 27 marked the premiere of Roadfood: Discovering America One Dish At A Time with host Misha Collins on PBS. And in true Misha Collins fashion… fans felt like they were participating in a GISH hunt trying to track down where to watch the program.

Fear not, for Nerds has you covered. Below, we’re breaking down the different ways that fans can/will be able to watch Roadfood.

Roadfood/PBS

1. PBS

Roadfood is a program airing on the network PBS. Depending on what region you live in (PBS reaches all states in the USA, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa), the time that the show will air varies. While some regions released the show on its original premiere date, November 27, others have stated that the show is to premiere locally on December 15. Check your local PBS listing to see what time and date Roadfood airs near you.

2. Amazon Prime Video

In addition to being available on PBS, Roadfood is also going to be available on Amazon Prime Video’s PBS Food channel at some point in the future. No specific release date is available yet, but keep your eyes peeled for news on Roadfood’s Twitter.

*Update* As of January 6, episodes 1-4 of Roadfood are now available via the Amazon PBS Living Channel. The PBS Living Channel does require a subscription, which at the time of writing is priced at $2.99 per month. After the initial 4-episode upload, one episode will be uploaded per week. This watch option is not available internationally.

3. Roadfood’s Website

Additionally, there is a tab on Roadfood’s website dedicated to episodes, where new episodes are to be posted. As of now, only a trailer for the first episode has been posted, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for the first episode to drop.

*Update* As of February 14, 2022, all episodes of Roadfood are available to watch through its website. With the launch of this new watch option, the episodes are finally available for international viewers all over the globe to enjoy!

4. The PBS App

Additionally, PBS just announced that thanks to American Public TV, Roadfood will be available on the PBS app through Passport on December 15. However, this too comes with a region-related caveat. Every local PBS station’s Passport qualifications are different, so once again, make sure to check your local listings in order to find out if this is a viable streaming option in your region.

*Update* For more information concerning Passport (including pricing), visit here.

5. Apple TV+ (*Update*)

Furthermore, identical to its option on Amazon Prime Video, as of January 6, episodes 1-4 of Roadfood are available via the Apple PBS Living Channel. Again, the PBS Living Channel does require a subscription, which at the time of writing is priced at $2.99 per month. After the initial 4-episode upload, one episode will be uploaded per week. This watch option is not available internationally.

Depending on where you live, the first episode of Roadfood may or may not currently be available for you to watch (it’s not Misha without a little chaos and confusion). Make sure to check your local PBS listings (as well as Roadfood’s website for more information) and stay tuned here for more information as it becomes available. As always, stay up to date on all of our content concerning Roadfood here.

Ben Barnes Christmas Music Is Coming to Town

0

Being a Ben Barnes fan is the gift that keeps on giving! This year alone has brought us so much. Barnes played the charming villain in Netflix’s Shadow and Bone series, released his own music with his first EP Songs For You, and now we get Christmas music!

Barnes will be one of the many talented artists included on the Christmas album released by Stories, A Very Stories Christmas. Stories is a stripped-down acoustic type band that has a continuous rotating cast of singers and musicians. One look on their Instagram page and you will understand what makes them so popular.

After the success of Barnes’ first EP Songs For You, it is easy to see why Stories reached out to include him. Barnes’ signature sound and amazing vocals match their acoustic sound perfectly. In preparation for the album, Stories has been releasing short videos on their Instagram. In the video of Barnes, we get to hear a beautiful version of “This Christmas” originally recorded by Donny Hathaway. On his personal post, Barnes talks about how “This Christmas” is one of his all time favorites, and who doesn’t love this classic holiday song. Somehow this one song can so easily encapsulate everything we love about the Christmas season in such a soulful way. I personally can’t wait to hear Barnes give it a new life.

A Very Stories Christmas is currently available to pre-save and will be fully available on December 10. Some of the other popular artists included on the album will be Darren Criss, Lizzy McAlpine, Madelyn Grant, and others! If you haven’t checked out Barnes’ EP Songs For You, I highly recommend it! Our review of the truly fantastic EP can be found here. Continue to follow Nerds & Beyond to stay up to date on news!

‘Riverdale’ Recap: Season 6, Episode 4 “Chapter Ninety-Nine: The Witching Hour(s)”

Sabrina Spellman is taking a trip to Rivervale in this week’s episode of Riverdale! The fourth part of the five-episode event takes us through three different times, involving the same interconnected story told through Abigail, Poppy, and Cheryl Blossom as Bailey’s Comet passes over town. Keep reading to find out what happened in “Chapter Ninety-Nine: The Witching Hour(s).”

“Three Blossom women, one story echoing across time, burning as bright and eternal as a comet’s tail in the night sky.”

Thornhill Today

Kailey Schwerman/The CW

Cheryl tells her girls about Bailey’s Comet that only passes through every 65 years. As they watch it on the North Hill, she will be staying behind to care for Nana Rose and conducting certain rituals to help her transition into the afterlife. Cheryl later tells Nana Rose about the comet and confirms if she wants to go through with it. Before getting started with the ritual, Cheryl must read through the stories of Poppy and Abigail, to know them.

Britta finds Cheryl and admits she’s noticed things. She knows that she and Nana Rose have been planning something in secret. She just doesn’t know what it is, but she’d like to be there for it. Nana Rose convinces Cheryl to stay and Cheryl obliges.

Thornhill 1957

Michael Courtney/The CW

Poppy’s doing pretty well for herself, giving herbs to townsfolk, mostly wives, so they can “save the day.” During Poppy’s salon, she brings up the topic of Bailey’s Comet and Tammy Tate suggests they have a viewing party at Pop’s. Soon, the topic turns to conspiracy and Poppy admits she’s not a fan of witch hunts. Of any kind.

Following the salon, Bitsy admits to Poppy that she’s not happy in her marriage and that Jack thinks the answer is to have another child. Poppy gives Bitsy some ginger root as a form of birth control. After Bitsy thanks her, the two kiss, which complicates things for them moving forward. Jack later comes knocking on Thornhill’s front doors, with Bitsy by his side. He confronts Poppy about what she did with his wife and Bitsy is forced to tell Poppy she gave her the wrong idea about them. She’s never been happier in her marriage and she would be very lucky to have another child with Jack. Jack tells Poppy to stay out of his marriage, or he will kill her.

The Downfall

As if that threat wasn’t enough, Poppy later finds Jack and other husbands outside of Thornhill. Not happy with what she’s been telling their wives. They want Poppy to leave Rivervale ASAP. The Blossoms have outstayed their welcome. Poppy tells them that Thornhill is her home and she’ll never leave. Kirk Keller threatens her before they all leave.

After going out, Poppy comes back to Thornhill to find men ransacking the place. Kirk tells her that they received an anonymous tip that Poppy is a subversive. A suspected communist sympathizer. Kirk arrests Poppy and takes her in for questioning.

Kirk tries to get a confession out of Poppy, that she’s a communist, but she doesn’t budge. She gets put in a jail cell and Bitsy visits her. She tries to get Poppy to sign the confession. Bitsy thought she cared a little more about them. Poppy says she’s doing it for them, for her, for womankind. For all the free-thinking independent daughters who will come after them. Poppy realizes that Bitsy is pregnant after she stays silent. They will get through it somehow. Bitsy pulls her hand away after Poppy grabs it, and she tells her that this baby is exactly what she and Jack need. Jack was right about her. She’s just a sad, jealous, sexually repressed spinster. Poppy knows she doesn’t mean that, but Bitsy walks away.

Nine months later, Jack comes to Poppy’s cell, pleading for her help. Bitsy has gone into labor and she’s convinced herself that something is wrong. Poppy is the only person that can help. Jack swears that if she does this, she will not return to her cell. Poppy reunites with Bitsy in her hospital room and stays with her throughout the birth, which happens under Bailey’s Comet. Bitsy gives birth to a beautiful baby girl and nothing will hold her back. Before leaving, Poppy gives Bitsy a pouch for when the time is right.

Kirk arrests Poppy after she comes out of the hospital room. She is now under house arrest at Thornhill, indefinitely. She was doomed to spend the rest of her life haunting the halls of Thornhill. Bitsy’s husband died under “mysterious” circumstances just a year after his daughter was born.

Thornhill 1892

Abigail interviews a new teacher, Thomasina Topaz. And just like now, it already seems like the two are getting close. After Thomasina is hired, she says she’s from a nearby town. Greendale. While in the present, Cheryl wanted the girls to study Bailey’s Comet, Abigail is not so much on board when Thomasina brings up the scientific opportunity.

Abigail later finds Thomasina and admits she was right. They are going to teach those young women hard truths, tough knowledge, and prepare them for a world that might not exist yet, but someday will. Thomasina asks what she can do to help and the two kiss. Later, there’s a knock on the door and it’s Constable Keller. He’s looking for a murderess, who goes by Thomasina Topaz. Abigail tells the constable there is no one there by that name, while looking at Thomasina, and mentions that there’s a confirmed case of the pox at Thornhill. After he leaves, Abigail demands the truth from Thomasina.

Thomasina admits that she did once have a husband, an arranged marriage. He was a cruel man who didn’t like her ideas of educating womenkind. He didn’t like her rituals, he just sought to control her with the back of his hand and his belt. So one night, Thomasina looked into his eyes and she knew it was either his life or hers. She chose hers. She chose to live. Abigail tells Thomasina to stay with her at Thornhill forever.

A Dying Wish

A friend of Abigail’s brother, Fen Fogarty, comes with news that James has died in action. And his last dying wish, in the form of a letter, was that his sister marry his best friend. Thomasina tries to talk Abigail out of marrying Fen, as she can feel a darkness inside him. She is certain that man is not who he says he is.

While Fen is out, Abigail and Thomasina search his room, looking for any evidence of his malfeasance. Abigail finds a paper with James’ signature written all over it, but it’s not her brother’s hand. This is someone practicing her brother’s hand. She also finds her family’s seal, the official Blossom crest. Thomasina was right. The letter was forged. Thomasina, meanwhile, finds a pentagram necklace and other objects of the occult. Fen Fogarty is a warlock. Abigail finds death portraits, and she figures he’s a murderer. She finds one of James.

Fen comes back and the two quickly clean up. When he comes into his room, Abigail tells him to leave. Thomasina tries to protect her, but Fen grabs her and threatens to slit her throat unless Abigail obeys him. Abigail promises him she’ll marry him, but they need a vicar to perform the ceremony and bear witness. Fen tells her if she’s not back in one hour with the vicar, Thomasina will be locked in the chapel.

Abigail married Fen, not like she had much of a choice. But she already had an idea of what to do to get rid of him. After the ceremony, Fen is on the bed and Abigail tells him the story of Lizzie Borden, who took an axe to her family. And Abigail does the same thing to Fen. Afterwards she finds Thomasina, but it’s too late. Fen already got to her. Just barely alive, Fen makes his way into the chapel. Bailey’s Comet passes overhead, perfect timing. Just before he dies, Fen curses Abigail with immortality and solitary, loneliness, for all eternity.

An Old Friend Lends a Hand

Kailey Schwerman/The CW

After Cheryl finishes telling the heartbreaking story of Abigail and Poppy, the doorbell rings. She’s finally here. Cheryl opens the door to find young witch Sabrina Spellman, who would do anything to help a fellow witch.

Cheryl introduce Sabrina to Nana Rose and Britta and Sabrina says they have a lot of mutual friends, share a lot of the same interests. And their covens are in the same softball league. Sabrina was the first one to tell Cheryl about performing a transference. Her cousin, Ambrose, taught her how to do it. Britta leaves and the spell casting commences. The transference works, and Abigail is now in Nana Rose’s body. She’s free, at long last. She lets go and is finally at peace.

“Happy-sad endings are the best.”

So exactly what happened? Nana Rose’s body did die, but not her soul. They did a classic body swap. There was no Cheryl, not really. She was also Poppy and before that, she was Abigail Blossom. When Fen Fogarty died, he cursed Abigail with immortality, so to hide that, she created Poppy Blossom, then Cheryl Blossom. However, Abigail was forever haunted by the loss of her first true love, Thomasina. The only way to reunite them was to move Abigail’s soul into a body no longer meant to be in this world. Abigail’s soul has moved on to a peaceful eternity in the sweet hereafter. Now Roseanne Blossom can enjoy her precious youth. Cheryl, Poppy, Abigail is not really dead. Why?

“There is no death for witches. Only a transformation.”

Sabrina died and came back. Abigail and Thomasina were both witches. The two lovers are finally reunited after over a hundred years.

Kailey Schwerman/The CW

‘Hawkeye’ Recap: Season 1, Episode 4 “Partners, Am I Right?”

Maya Lopez aka Echo was introduced last week, and she’s got it out for Ronin. She’s willing to do whatever it takes to get vengeance on the man who killed her father. Clint and Kate managed to shake off Maya and the Tracksuit Mafia thanks to a few of Clint’s trick arrows, and the pair are now after any info Kate’s mother may have on the Tracksuits within the Bishop Security database. One issue though, Jack is home and greets Clint with a familiar sword … Ronin’s.

Parent to Parent

Marvel Studios

Kate and Clint are busted by Eleanor and Jack, and the four sit down to hash out exactly what is going on. After some back and forth about what they actually are (friends, partners?), Clint has to admit to Kate’s mother that they are working on a case together. Jack makes sure to add-in a thank you to Clint for saving the world.

Eleanor acts excited for her daughter’s newest adventure, despite Kate’s break-in to her laptop in the process, but promptly shows Clint to the elevator after telling Kate to stay put. In her farewell to the Avenger, she mentions that she doesn’t want Kate mixed up in Avenger business; she isn’t willing to lose her. Clint compliments Kate’s skills, and Eleanor mentions that Natasha’s skill were also great, but that didn’t save her. Clint leaves promising to keep Kate safe, but also letting Eleanor know he cannot drop this case.

After spotting the Ronin sword against the wall during their conversation, Clint manages to swipe it, cleaning up one more aspect of his Ronin mess. However, Eleanor leaves quite the shady message on someone’s voicemail after Clint leaves. It’s almost as if she’s trying to warn someone …

Clint also needs a little help from someone — Laura. He texts her asking her to look into Sloan LTD, the company Kazi works for.

The question after these interactions is mainly surrounding the relationship between Jack and Clint. They obviously have a deep comic history, but so far we haven’t been given any insight into any potential past between these two. Another interesting note was the subtle nod to Clint’s childhood not being so great by Kate. Clint’s childhood is notoriously awful in the comics, so perhaps we’ll get a little bit more of a dive into that aspect of the character.

There’s More to Laura Barton Than Meets the Eye

Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios

Laura Barton is an MCU addition, and there’s not much known about her at all. How her and Clint met and what she did beforehand are a mystery. But a little more is coming to light now. She’s able to run a check on Sloan LTD, discovering that Jack Duquesne is the CEO and they’re a front for money laundering by the Tracksuit Mafia. Which means Kate was right about Jack, he is into some unsavory business, he’s directly involved with the Tracksuits and Maya’s boss.

The mystery about Laura runs deeper as she asks, in German, if anything else was taken from the Avengers compound, particularly a Rolex watch (which was stolen at the black market auction). Clint isn’t sure, but thinks that was destroyed years ago. However, he asks her to ping its location just to be sure.

Clearly, there’s more to Laura than meets the eye. Whether she learned all of these skills from being Clint’s wife all these years, or she’s a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent herself remains to be seen. Might be worth pointing on Clint is married to a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent for a short while in the comics, Mockingbird. The watch realistically could be hers, and her own cover may be blown if that watch is found.

Pizza and Holiday Cheer

Marvel Studios

After spending the afternoon with her mother and Jack, where Jack seems to slightly win Kate over with her mother’s happiness with him, Kate heads back to her aunt’s apartment to see Clint. She comes bearing pizza, Christmas decor and sweaters, and movies, so Clint can participate in his family movie marathon from afar. Clint appreciates her gesture and goes along with it. He also tells her that she was right about Jack. So much for Jack winning her over.

The pair begins to scheme about their next steps, which includes finding his trick arrows they used. Kate also mentions that maybe he needs boomerang arrows, and Clint shoots it down (this is a great little Easter egg to the Fraction/Aja series!). Clint also introduces Kate to one of his other skills, the deadly coin snap that can knock someone unconcious. He snaps the coin-shaped ornament and flicks the television off, and obviously Kate is smitten with the technique, and Clint shows her how to do it. She picks it up quickly, too.

The Shot I Didn’t Take

After the apartment is decorated and the coin snap is perfected, Kate asks about Clint’s best shot. He tells her it was the shot he didn’t take. Natasha. The history of Natasha and Clint has always been alluded to, and we get no more information than what we already know — Clint was sent to take her out and he didn’t, instead choosing to help her — but as the series has been doing since episode 1, it’s a stark reminder of how much losing Natasha is still affecting Clint over a year later.

Kate asks about his family, confirming they were all lost after Thanos’ snap. Then, she figures out that Clint doesn’t know Ronin, he is Ronin. He tells her everyone dealt with the Blip in their own way, and he coped by continuing to do what he was trained to do. She thinks of his duty as helping people, but he sees himself as nothing more than a trained bow, a weapon used to hurt other people at the command of others. And his shame over his atrocities as Ronin is tied to himself, and his family. So he needs to fix this.

Kate and the LARPers

Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios

It’s Kate’s turn to meet everyone’s favorite LARPers, including Clint’s old pal, Grills. She needs to get Clint’s trick arrows from an NYPD facility, and Clint thinks maybe these guys will help. He was right, they agree to help on one condition …

Meanwhile, Clint pays a visit to Kazi, telling him he needs to convince Maya to lay off Ronin. He’s gone. She’s chasing a ghost, and she’s going to get killed hunting him down. He also knows the big boss isn’t enjoying all this attention the Tracksuit Mafia has been getting from her little revenge mission.

Kate is immersing herself into the LARP community when Clint finds her at Grills’ apartment. She’s trying on a Viking dress and ends up recruiting its creator’s help in creating two new costumes for herself and Clint, after repaying their debt for the arrows and info with material for new costumes for Grills and his guild. Clint’s going to love that …

The duo get their arrows back and Clint gets a text message from Laura, the watch is pinging at an apartment in the city.

Seeing Double

Kate and Clint head to the address where the Rolex is being stashed. The watch belongs to an old coworker of Clint’s whose cover is at risk of being blown if that watch was in the wrong hands (Laura!). Clint begins to explain the plan, he heads in and she keeps watch, but Kate heads off on her own, leaving Clint to be lookout. Kate sneaks into the building by helping a man with his groceries, a lot different than Clint’s grapple hook arrow approach, and she overexcitedly spills the beans about her working with an Avenger to the man in the elevator.

When Kate gets to the apartment in question, she’s quickly met with strobe lights flashing in her eyes, which she somewhat blacks out with her putty arrows. She locates the watch, and finds notes about Clint’s family on a notepad nearby. Clearly whoever’s apartment this is is after Clint, and now his family.

Quickly, they figure out exactly whose apartment this is — Maya’s. The strobe lights are her alarm system, and photos of Maya and her father confirm that. As does Maya showing up and knocking Kate down. But Clint is also fighting who he believes to be Maya on the roof across the street.

Kate takes on Maya, and Clint continues to battle his unknown masked and nightvision-goggled adversary, finding time to shoot a zipline over to Kate for a quick escape. Kate makes her escape and tries to help Clint with his problem, but Maya takes advantage of the zipline and a fight between Maya and the newcomer begins, with Clint and Kate also fighting them both.

The masked assailant manages to toss Kate over the edge of the building, Clint getting a flashback of losing Natasha over the edge of the cliff on Vormir (the addition of the same theme music from that moment playing in the background really made this hurt). But Kate was saved, technically by the masked fighter who had tossed her over, when moments before in the middle of their fight Yelena had snapped a line to Kate’s belt buckle to save her from death, but get her out of her way. Clint cuts Kate down, whose fall is softened by some canopied Christmas lights. Kate heads right back up to the roof, though, sending a flashbang arrow between the three still fighting.

Kate hits Maya in the shoulder, and Maya knows she’s outmatched by Kate and her bow, and takes off, leaving only the other masked enemy with Clint. Clint rips off the mask to reveal none other than Yelena Belova. Kate has a clear shot on Yelena, but doesn’t take it (take note of the timing of this and the conversation between Clint and Kate earlier regarding Natasha), and Yelena takes off.

At this point, Clint tells Kate she’s done. A Black Widow assassin in now on their tails and she has to clear out. This just got very real, very quickly. Despite Kate’s insistence she knows the risk, Clint is not willing to risk her life … or her conscience.

Be sure to keep up with our continuing coverage of Hawkeye including episodic recaps, reviews, deep dives, and more! Episode 5 of the series will premiere exclusively on Disney+ Wednesday, December 15.

‘Walker’ Prequel in Development; Jared Padalecki to Executive Produce

0

Some big Walker news has been released on the eve of Walker‘s mid-season finale. According to TV Insider, a Walker prequel is in the works, with Jared Padalecki set to executive produce.

The prequel would be titled Walker: Independence, and Walker‘s showrunner, Anna Fricke, has written the teleplay alongside Walker‘s co-executive producer, Seamus Kevin Fahey.

TV Insider also describes what the prequel would be like, stating, “Walker: Independence follows Abby Walker, an affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. On her quest for revenge, Abby crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue in search of purpose. Abby and Hoyt’s journey takes them to Independence, Texas, where they encounter diverse, eclectic residents running from their own troubled pasts and chasing their dreams. Our newfound family will struggle with the changing world around them while becoming agents of change themselves in a town where nothing is what it seems.”

The prequel is set in the late 1800s, so it will be interesting to see who they cast as Abby Walker, as well as Hoyt Rawlins (who we can assume is an ancestor of the Hoyt we already know).

The prequel sounds exciting and we can only hope it gets greenlit! Stay tuned for more Walker news.

‘Seven on 7’: Breaking Down the Sixth Episode of ‘The Boys’ Digital Series

December brings snow, sleighbells, and many sugary confections… and a new episode of Seven on 7 of course. Grab your Santa hats (oof, maybe a bad choice of words… but more on that later), because an all-new Christmas-themed episode of Seven on 7 has dropped! This month’s installment marks the sixth month anniversary of the digital series set in the world of The Boys that serves to bridge the gap between the events of seasons 2 and 3. Here at Nerds & Beyond, we’ve been helping you wade through Vought’s BS, breaking down and connecting storyline threads, Easter eggs (wrong holiday, I know), and tidbits that VNN is hand-feeding us to the bigger picture of events in the show. Without further ado, check out the sixth episode of Seven on 7 and our breakdown below!

Gecko the Rat

Another day, another Supe popping back up out of nowhere. For those of you who don’t remember, Gecko (real name Matthew Culbert) was an old friend of Annie’s from her Capes for Christ days (after all, he was perfect for the role of Jesus in the play. No one was gonna take a nail through the hand like he could). That is, until she blackmailed him into stealing her some Compound V from the Vought facility where he was a lab rat for regeneration testing. After threatening to expose his S&M side hustle of letting people hack off his limbs for money — which seems to not be so much of a secret anymore (and whew, I did not need the visual of Santa chopping off Gecko’s Christmas tree if you catch my drift) — the two did not part ways on good terms.

Which explains why normally sweet Culbert is spewing hatred about his former friend to the media — he probably thinks that Starlight is the one who exposed him in the first place. What’s even more interesting is the FBSA’s involvement — and Coleman’s subsequent praise of the organization. Are Victoria Neuman and our Petít Hughie tying up some loose ends? It’s hard to predict if this incident will incite backlash against The Boys or America’s newly re-instated sweetheart in the future. It’s definitely something to keep our eye on concerning season 3.

Another Brave Maeve Marketing Campaign

Vought has really been pushing the Brave Maeve agenda nonstop since the beginning of Seven on 7. I’m starting to wonder if the Queen is voluntarily leaning into the marketing scheme since the last time we saw her. At least her charity is helping people, no matter how in your face the marketing might be. This month’s product? The Brave Maeve Pride Bar (vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free of course), which is going towards helping the homeless LGBT community (while doing some extreme branding of course).

Bullseye Beats

We’ve been hearing an awful lot about Eagle the Archer lately, which has spawned lots of speculation about his television iteration’s role in the future of Payback (of whom multiple members will be on screen in season 3 including Crimson Countess, Soldier Boy, and the most recently revealed Gunpowder). However, the arrow-shooting Supe seems to be taking a different path in his career at the moment as he becomes… a rapper? Not really sure where that’s going, but stream “Bow and Quiver” exclusively on Voughtify, I guess.

OurSheet, OurCoffee, OurToiletPaper. Who Knows at This Point?

It’s the little things that always manage to circle their way back around in the universe of The Boys, and today’s episode of Seven on 7 is only reinforcing that idea. Mickey Londale, CEO of OurSheet (don’t remember? check out the commercial from the very first episode here), has recruited Supe Blue Hawk (welcome aboard, Nick Wechsler) as the newest spokesman for his ultra-patriotic brand, promoting the company’s new “4Freedom” line — which apparently includes products like toilet paper and coffee? They’ve really lost the plot in marketing over there. But hey, at least Coleman got to have his fanboy moment. Mmm…. selling toilet paper, truly the American Dream.

Vought’s Super Christmas Spectacular!

Amazon Prime Video

Along with The Seven (more like The Five at this point), VNN’s own Cameron Coleman will be making an appearance with the most special guest of all (nope, still can’t think of the Santa costume without gagging) at Vought’s Super Christmas Spectacular! Get into the holiday spirit live at Vought Square or stream it with Vought+ super access (wow, they’re really pushing this streaming network).

Black Noir Spreading Christmas Drear

There aren’t words to explain just how much is going on in this segment… which fits, I guess, because it concerns Black Noir. Firstly, the silent Supe seems to have recovered from his “unspecified severe allergic reaction” (cough tree nuts, cough Almond Joy). And just in time to spread some holiday cheer… by handing out bulletproof backpacks (at a school named for JFK nonetheless). Coleman spouts “These bullet stopping bookbags [available in a variety of Supe-related designs of course] will help make sure that kids and parents feel extra safe at school despite the ever-present threat against our country from Super Terrorists”… Cameron, I don’t know how much a backpack is going to help against these so-called (Vought-grown) “terrorists,” especially considering the real terrors are the very Supes that are supposed to be protecting America. But okay.

Vought’s Christmas Benefit Shines Bright

Spotted: Starlight was the guest of honor at Vought’s recent Christmas benefit, where she was recognized as Hero of the Year. The even bigger buzz? Stan Edgar himself made an appearance to “mingle with an illustrious crowd of New York businessmen, politicians, and socialites” — sounds like a lot of opportunities to grease pockets to me, especially with Vought’s favorability down right now. Even stranger, one Mr. Petít G-Man and his boss, V. Neuman, were spotted having a good time. Governmental schmoozing duties or some sort of secret bust? Only time will tell. And in perhaps the juiciest tidbit of the entire episode, Coleman apologizes for “accidentally” buying Hughie a drink at the benefit, apparently having mistaken him for someone else??? It seems like I’m not the only one who appreciates Hughie in a suit, waitstaff-chic or not.

Homelander Addresses the Nation

As Coleman prepares to launch a tirade on the alleged “war on Christmas,” the left is carrying out (thank god for that cutoff), we cut to… Homelander?

Amazon Prime Video

Well, maybe it would have been better to hear the Christmas rant after all. As Homelander launches into a speech talking about how he’s here for the American people and is going to work towards rebuilding the public’s trust since the Stormfront debacle, you can’t help but admire the guy’s acting skills. He comes off so sincere. But you and I know better. Of course, the host of Seven on 7 lights up like a little kid on Christmas at the speech (reign in the crush Coleman, geez). Typical.

Nearing the End?

While there’s no official indication that these episodes will be slowing down anytime soon, I can’t help but wonder if next month’s will be the end (following with the theme of sevens and all). I, for one, sincerely hope not (feed us Amazon Prime, we’re starving for season 3). Regardless, that’s all for the last episode of 2021. As always, stay tuned until next month to see what’s in store for season 3 of The Boys. Make sure to check out our breakdowns of all the previous Seven on 7 episodes here. See you in the new year!

Nerds Gets Cheery: Everything That Can Go Wrong Does in ‘Milo Murphy’s Law’ “A Christmas Peril”

December is here and the Christmas season is officially upon us! So we here at Nerds & Beyond are spreading the cheer by sharing some of our favorite things to watch during the Christmas season. Check in every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through Christmas to see what’s on our screens this time of year.

Today we’re looking at the season 1 finale of Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh’s second animated show for Disney (their first being Phineas and Ferb, of course): Milo Murphy’s Law. The episode “A Christmas Peril” is the series’ only Christmas episode, which is understandable given the series’ tragically short run.

Running just two seasons between October 2016 and May 2019, Milo Murphy’s Law has yet to officially be cancelled; however fans have accepted that the two seasons we have now are all we’ll be getting. This makes “A Christmas Peril” extra special, since it’s the only one we’ll be getting. Although the episode would still be worth a watch even if this wasn’t the case.

As with most episodes of Milo Murphy’s Law, the episode bounces between the adventures of Milo and his friends and those of time travelers Cavendish and Dakota. Milo’s adventure kicks of with Sarah (his sister) driving him, Zack, and Melissa to the airport to pick up part of his Christmas gift to his parents: the whole Murphy family is coming to visit! Now given that each male Murphy has their own portion of Murphy’s Law (a family trait that makes sure that everything that can go wrong does), this plan gets complicated almost immediately.

Disney

First, at the airport, as the crew picks up Milo’s cousin — who insists he does not have Murphy’s Law (spoiler alert, he really does) — a lost bag leads to the two Murphy boys taking an outbound flight, which they later escape midair. Then when they head to the train station to pick up Grandma and Grandpa Murphy, Milo and his cousin board the train to help with the bags and end up trapped on the train heading towards Canada. However, luck actually seems to turn their way as the train suddenly breaks off the tracks near the harbor where they need to puck up Milo’s aunt and uncle. Although that “luck” runs out quickly as his aunt and uncle’s boat is hit by an iceberg in the harbor and begins to sink.

However, Milo is able to rescue them using a commandeered rowboat and the family, plus Melissa and Zack, go on to battle the snowstorm to get home. As you may have guessed by this point, it doesn’t exactly work out as planned. After the car gets trapped in the snow the group ends up catching a horse drawn carriage — yes, it is as odd as it sounds — and while they don’t make it home, they do make it to the mall where Milo and Sarah’s parents are.

Disney

Meanwhile, in the far off future — 2195 — we find versions of Cavendish and Dakota that are notably older than we’re used to. Not only that, but they don’t seem to be speaking anymore. As it turns out, back in 2175 the duo had an argument over the last eggroll at a company Christmas Party that left them completely estranged from on another. However, as they reflect on their time apart — Cavendish upon seeing Dakota at a book signing and Dakota while being asked about Cavendish during said book signing — they both decide to put their time travel skills to use and return to the party that set this mess in action to stop the argument from ever happening.

Unfortunately, the duo ends up working at cross purposes and even after multiple attempts they cannot seem to fix the problem. Granted, their methods are strange at best — Dakota brings in a dinosaur at one point — and even when they join forces they can’t seem to find a way to stop the argument. In the end, there are so many future versions of Cavendish and Dakota wreaking havoc that the party looks like the battleground of a superhero movie. So Cavendish finally breaks all the rules and directly approaches his past self.

Disney

Fortunately, the future Cavendish, with some help from future Dakota, is able to repair the duo’s past selves’ relationship. Unfortunately, repairing the relationship eliminated the future Cavendish and Dakota, causing them all to disappear.

The episode ends with the whole Murphy family, along with Melissa and her dad, Zack and his parents Cavendish and Dakota, and other recurring characters trapped in the mall due to the snow the storm. Luckily, in a Christmas movie cliché, the Chinese place is open, so everyone gathers together for Christmas dinner there.

Disney

The episode is full of exactly the humor we all expect from a Dan and Swampy show plus a lot of heart. If the amazing amount of effort Milo put into getting his family together for Christmas doesn’t touch your heart, then Cavendish and Dakota’s dedication to saving their friendship definitely will. The love shown onscreen between these characters hits exactly in the Christmas feels, and even if this episode is tragically the show’s only Christmas episode, it’s completely worthy of the honor.

You can check out both seasons of Milo Murphy’s Law over on Disney+ now, and be sure to check out “A Christmas Peril” this holiday season!
