Some big Walker news has been released on the eve of Walker‘s mid-season finale. According to TV Insider, a Walker prequel is in the works, with Jared Padalecki set to executive produce.

The prequel would be titled Walker: Independence, and Walker‘s showrunner, Anna Fricke, has written the teleplay alongside Walker‘s co-executive producer, Seamus Kevin Fahey.

TV Insider also describes what the prequel would be like, stating, “Walker: Independence follows Abby Walker, an affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. On her quest for revenge, Abby crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue in search of purpose. Abby and Hoyt’s journey takes them to Independence, Texas, where they encounter diverse, eclectic residents running from their own troubled pasts and chasing their dreams. Our newfound family will struggle with the changing world around them while becoming agents of change themselves in a town where nothing is what it seems.”

The prequel is set in the late 1800s, so it will be interesting to see who they cast as Abby Walker, as well as Hoyt Rawlins (who we can assume is an ancestor of the Hoyt we already know).

The prequel sounds exciting and we can only hope it gets greenlit! Stay tuned for more Walker news.
