It’s time for a new universe. DC’s next animated film Justice League: Warworld has been released.

Until now, the Justice League has been a loose association of superpowered individuals. But when they are swept away to War World, a place of unending brutal gladiatorial combat, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the others must somehow unite to form an unbeatable resistance able to lead an entire planet to freedom.

The trailer for the R-rated animated film showcases all three of our main heroes on a quest to defeat Mongul in very different places, yet the same. Superman, voiced by Darren Criss, is going film noir style as he works with police to bring some aliens to justice. Wonder Woman, played by Stana Katic, is set in the old west where she meets Jonah Hex voiced by Troy Baker. And finally, Batman, voiced by Jensen Ackles, is dressed in gladiatorial armor wielding a sword in place of his signature gadgets in an ancient time. Eventually, the three are told where they are: Warworld, a planet introduced in the Justice League animated series that thrives on brutal combat.

The movie fits in the “Tomorrowverse” that began when Criss took over as Superman in Superman: Man of Tomorrow released in 2020. Ackles’ Batman came in one year later in Batman: The Long Halloween, and Katic has played a version of Wonder Woman in the Tomorrowverse in Legion of SuperHeroes.

Justice League: Warworld will release July 24, 2023 on DVD and Blu-ray and July 25 on digital.
