Fans of the hit HBO Max show, get ready for some euphoric news. Euphoria‘s season 2 release date has finally been revealed, and it seems that fans won’t have to wait much longer to see what Rue, Jules, and the rest of the gang have been up to. Euphoria season 2 returns on January 9!
Euphoria‘s first season, released in 2019, was a massive success. The show’s premise gave “A look at life for a group of high school students as they grapple with issues of drugs, sex and violence.” Its popularity skyrocketed and the drama garnered three Emmy Awards, with Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama by Zendaya, Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic), and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.
Since then, two holiday specials were released, one following main character Rue and the other following Jules. The specials left off on quite dark notes, so it will be interesting seeing what’s to come in the next installment of their adventures, especially considering the new teaser (above) that just dropped.
The show’s star-studded cast includes Zendaya (Rue Bennet), Hunter Schafer (Jules Vaughn), Sydney Sweeney (Cassie Howard), Jacob Elordi (Nate Jacobs), Barbie Ferreira (Kat Hernandez), Alexa Demie (Maddy Perez), Angus Cloud (Fez), Eric Dane (Cal Jacobs), Maude Apatow (Lexi Howard), Storm Reid (Gia Bennet), Algee Smith (Chris McKay), and more.
Euphoria will return for season 2 on January 9 on HBO Max. As always, stay tuned for more updates.
While the first episode of Hawkeye set the stage for where the series currently finds Clint Barton and who Kate Bishop is, the two didn’t cross paths until the final moments. Episode 2 picks back up immediately where the previous left off, and Clint and Kate’s adventures finally begin — including a flame-broiled apartment, a dog who loves pizza, a LARPing extravaganza, a probe into Jack Duquesne’s secrets, and another dicey run-in with the Tracksuit Mafia. Let’s dive into this episode’s major events.
Clint Barton, meet Kate Bishop
“You’re Hawkeye!” “Who the hell are you?” “Um … Kate Bishop.”
After rescuing Kate from the Tracksuit Mafia, Clint is appalled to discover that the person running around in his Ronin suit is just a kid. A talented kid, though. Kate explains that she started doing martial arts when she was just five years old. They return to Kate’s apartment so Clint can take the suit and get back to his kids. Kate tries to keep her cool over the fact that her idol is in her apartment, but she can’t stop herself from asking him to sign her bow.
Clint proceeds to, predictably, slip into Hawkeye’s signature disgruntled dad mode. He asks whether or not the Tracksuit Mafia would have a way of tracking her down … and his question is answered shortly after when Molotov cocktails begin flying in through the windows. Clint, Kate, and Pizza Dog make a hasty exit as the apartment goes up in flames. After grabbing some supplies (which were way less cool than Kate was anticipating), Kate decides to hole up at her aunt’s place since she’s away in Florida for the winter.
Clint’s deafness is finally canonical in the MCU
Up until now, Clint’s deafness in the comics was unnecessarily overlooked in the MCU. However, Hawkeye finally brings this important aspect of his character into canon, and the series also finds a way to explain why it’s just now being mentioned.
When Clint and Kate are walking together at one point, he tells her that he needs to have her on his left side so that he can hear her (because of his hearing aid). When she asks him what happened, we see a series of flashbacks of Hawkeye in the midst of battle in previous Marvel films. So Clint’s deafness in the show is a direct result of the harrowing battles (and accompanying explosions and bodily trauma) he experienced over the years.
In some of the different comic iterations with Clint, his hearing was similarly affected through fights with various villains. Ironically, one of them was Kazimierz Kazimierczak aka the Clown, who appears in the show.
Clint goes LARPing
I never knew how badly I needed to see Clint Barton LARPing until it happened, and it was just as excellent as it sounds. When Clint returns to the charred remains of Kate’s apartment to get his Ronin suit, he’s confused to see that it’s missing. After seeing a sticker for the NYC LARPers on the side of a firetruck, a bit of internet sleuthing leads him to discover that a firefighter has stolen the suit. The next day, Clint ships his kids off to the airport to go home to Laura so he can handle the mess in NYC. He promises them that he’ll be home for Christmas. Then, he drops Kate off at Bishop Security, and he leaves her his phone number … for emergencies only.
Clint treks through the woods to find the NYC LARPers. Looking sorely out of place with his street clothes and backpack, even Clint Barton isn’t allowed to just waltz in while a game is in session. Forced to register and carry around a fake sword and armor, an entirely unenthused Hawkeye effortlessly makes his way through the fighting crowd and over to the man that’s wearing his Ronin suit. After agreeing to let the other man defeat him in “battle” (because how often can you say that you “killed” Hawkeye while LARPing?), Grills hands over the suit.
Fun fact: Grills is more than likely a nod to Clint’s neighbor in the comics!
Jack Duquesne has a secret
Much to Kate’s dismay, her mother is engaged to Jack Duquesne. But there may be even more to worry about when it comes to him, beyond the typical “stepdad issues.” Kate agrees to have dinner with her mother and Jack, fuelled by her ulterior motive of finding out what exactly he’s hiding. And upon learning that they both share a mutual love of fencing, they have a brief match inside of the house, despite Eleanor’s protests.
Following the tense moment at the end of their game of fencing, Jack later offers Kate a butterscotch candy. She’s horrified to realize that it’s the same type of candy that she saw inside of Armand’s house. Given Armand’s threats to Eleanor and his stormy relationship with his nephew, Jack is certainly beginning to look like a suspect in his uncle’s death.
While it’s unclear how much will be carried over, it’s also worth noting that in the comics, Jack is a villain-turned-hero known as the Swordsman. This ties in neatly with his affinity for swords in the show. And he’s even the person that trained Clint to become a skilled fighter.
Capturing two archers for the price of one
In an attempt to clear things up with his “old Tracksuit friends,” Clint waits around for them to come find him and capture him. They bring him back to their lair, and despite the fact that he’s sorely outnumbered, he’s calm as he reveals that he managed to free his hands from their restraints and asks to speak to their boss.
The Tracksuit Mafia demands to know where Kate Bishop is. Clint attempts to act like he has no idea who she is, which doesn’t work out very well when she comes crashing through the ceiling in an attempt to rescue him (thanks to her ability to track his phone with Bishop Security). They both end up tied up … with duct tape this time.
Maya Lopez
In the final moments of the episode, we get our first look at Maya Lopez aka Echo (who will be getting her own Disney+ series). A member of the Tracksuit Mafia tells her that they have Clint and Kate, and she waves him away.
Episode 3 of Hawkeye will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on Wednesday, December 1. Stay tuned for our weekly episodic recaps, theories, reviews, and more!
We at Nerds and Beyond know that shopping for gifts can be hard. So with the holidays nearly upon us, we’ve got your back with gift suggestions for some of our favorite fandoms/communities dropping all this month.
Today’s gift guide is for those of us who’ve got a friend or family member who is into Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). Be they new to the game or a D&D expert, dungeon master, or new player, we’ve got you covered.
Dice
DesignsByGabii on Etsy
If there is one gift that every D&D player would be happy to get, this is it. Not only are dice an integral part of the game, but there are a ton of different types and styles. From the standard six-sided die (a.k.a. a D6) that we all know to the D&D standard 20 sided die (a.k.a. a D20), you can buy your favorite D&D enthusiast whole sets of die in just about any style they’d like. From this set of metal die to this potion-themed set to the multitudes of cool resin die sets available on Etsy, you are sure to find a set that they would love. Or, on the off chance you don’t, you can grab a completely custom set from DesignsByGabii for a gift unlike any other.
Dice Storage
DracaenaDraco on Etsy
From bags to boxes to ‘vaults,’ the D&D community has a million and one ways to keep their dice sets together and safe. So if your D&D player already has a large dice collection, dice storage might be the way to go.
There are a lot of options, from bags like thisbag of holding that has die pockets and comes in over a dozen patterns or this dragon skin bag (no dragons were harmed in the making of this bag) available in 20 colors, to boxes like this customizable single dice set case or this personalized wooden dice box. You can even find some that are a bit more unique, like this personalized leather case or this awesome D20 shaped dice case.
Dice Tower
Bladon3D on Etsy
Our final recommendation in regards to dice, dice towers are a fun, decorative way for players to roll their die. Generally, towers work by having the player drop their die into the top of the tower, where it navigates obstacles on the way down to give the player a random roll. They come in all shapes and sizes, from literal towers like this one to cross fandom ones like this Tardis one and even more whimsical ones like this hot air balloon one. So, no matter your D&D fan’s taste, you are sure to find a dice roller they will love.
Character Journal
CrowCrownStudio on Etsy
Since D&D is a game that involves creating your own unique characters, players often need to keep track of a lot of details throughout the game. One of the easiest ways to do this is with character sheets or character journals. CrowCrownStudio on Etsy makes a great character journal that includes pages for stat and resources sheets; attacks and spells; equipment and magical items; bio, portrait space, and character details; a page for NPCs and locations; as well as 12 lined pages, six gridded pages, and seven plain pages. It really is a one-stop-shop for any character.
Podcast Merch
High Rollers Podcast
If there is one thing the D&D community does really well, it’s podcasts. They’re a great way for people to enjoy the game even when they themselves aren’t playing, and it’s likely that the D&D fan on your list follows at least one. So, do a bit of sleuthing, find their favorite, and then treat them to some merch from their favorite show. Or if you can’t do the sleuthing, here are a few of our favorite shows whose merch you can check out.
Hopefully, this guide can help you find a great gift for the D&D player on your list, but if you didn’t find your ideal gift here, be sure to check out our other published gift guides. Then check back every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout November for more of these gift guides.
Clint Barton is ready for his spotlight and episodes 1 and 2 of his solo series, aptly named Hawkeye, have finally debuted on Disney+. A holiday event for the ages, Hawkeye is set to follow Clint as he finds himself in a bind right before the holidays after promising his family he’d be home for Christmas. The series is introducing another hero into the mix, too — the Young Avenger Kate Bishop.
Kate Bishop Circa 2012
Marvel
As a wealthy New York native, Kate Bishop experienced the Battle of New York in 2012 firsthand as a young child. Her penthouse home was destroyed and her father killed during the battle, but as Kate finds herself staring out at the Chitauri filling the skies, she sees a lone archer on the rooftops. And that lone archer saved her life. From that moment forward she feels compelled to protect her mother and herself against any potential future threats, setting up her training in archery, martial arts, gymnastics, and fencing. Her choice of bow and arrow absolutely reflective of seeing Hawkeye atop that building.
A Penchant For Mischief
Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios
Kate Bishop is proving she’s not one to play by the rules very early in the series, much like her comic self. In her opening scenes, she destroys a clock tower at her college for a bet (after picking a lock to get into the building and onto the roof), however, it proves her aim is nothing short of impeccable. She manages to land an arrow on the rope of the bell, her victory ringing out before the clock tower comes crashing down.
Clint’s Residual Trauma
Marvel Studios
While at a showing of Rogers: The Musical with his three kids in New York City, Clint feels the residual effects of losing his best friend Natasha as he sees her actor counterpart singing and dancing on the stage as they recreate the Battle of New York. Lila tries to get her dad’s attention, and it’s then that Clint’s deafness is finally introduced in the MCU — a long omitted detail. He’s using it to his advantage here avoiding having to listen to the musical rendition of what probably isn’t one of Clint’s best days by keeping his hearing aids off.
“I know what happens, I was there. You know who wasn’t there, is that guy. Ant-Man.”
Clint to Lila
After being spotted and recognized by a child in the audience, Clint needs a breather. He heads to the restroom to only again be recognized and asked for a selfie in what is probably the worst possible place imaginable. After that Clint has had enough and heads outside, only to be met by his three kids moments later. They’ve also had their fill of the musical and the family takes off. They head out to dinner and then make plans to go visit NYC’s Rockefeller Christmas tree.
Their dinner is comped, for Clint’s heroism, and he’s visibly uncomfortable with the attention. If there’s one thing this series is seemingly going to really hone in on is Clint’s dislike of both being recognized and being rewarded for his time as an Avenger. Whether that’s just who is or if it’s a residual effect of him surviving while Nat did not remains to be seen.
A (New) Family Dynamic
Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios
Kate heads home for the holidays and her mother welcomes her with open arms despite having to pay for the clock tower mishap (credit cards have been canceled as punishment). Eleanor Bishop is dressed to the nines as she prepares to head out to a charity dinner with her partner, Jack Duquesne.
At the event, Jack’s uncle Armand breaks the news to Kate — Jack and her mother are getting married — and he seems as displeased about the impending nuptials as Kate. We learn the relationship progressed quickly (red flag #1) and Kate steps outside to get some air, coming face to face with a stray golden retriever with one eye (yes, it’s exactly who we think it is!).
As Kate heads back inside, she stumbles across Armand and her mother having an argument, ending with Armand lightly threatening Eleanor. Kate pursues Armand through the hallways, takes up the position of waitress to continue her chase (good thing she opted for the black tux versus the red dress her mother wanted her to wear), and ends up in a very strange, very secluded wine cellar that is set up for an auction — a Black Market auction — with both Armand and Jack present.
Before the bidding begins, Armand airs his grievances about Eleanor to Jack, who requests he leave her alone. The first item up for bid? A triceratops skull. Next up, two relics recovered from the Avengers compound rubble — Ronin’s sword and suit. Also confirmed is Clint’s identity as Ronin is still unknown. Both Jack and Armand want that sword. Armand ends up winning, however, before bidding can finish for the suit, a wall gets blown in as a Russian mafia (the Tracksuit Mafia, bro) infiltrates looking for a watch.
Jack ends up with Ronin’s sword. And Kate grabs the suit to get out undetected.
Ronin 2.0
Kate dons the Ronin suit and takes on the Tracksuit Mafia singlehandedly and successfully. The bad news? Now they think she’s the actual Ronin, whose whereabouts have been unknown.
When she gets outside, she spots the one-eyed dog running straight into busy New York City traffic and she saves him from untimely demise (a stark deviation from the comics where it’s Clint who saves everyone’s favorite pooch, Lucky the Pizza Dog.) The pair narrowly escapes, leaving Eleanor panicked about Kate’s whereabouts and condition. They make their way to the safety of Kate’s apartment.
Back at their hotel, the Bartons are ready to turn in for the night. That is until Lila turns on the TV and Clint spots a familiar figure on the news — Ronin. Again, Clint’s residual trauma rears its ugly head. During his time after the Snap not only was he grieving the loss of his entire family and a good portion of his friends, but he committed heinous acts against crime syndicates around the world. Really not his best moments.
Still in her Ronin attire, Kate heads out to finish what she started with Armand but hits a snag. Armand has been brutally murdered in his living room, which is complete with monogrammed butterscotch candies. Another issue? The Tracksuit Mafia has found her. She holds her own against the growing mob, but in the end, she gets a little help from someone. Clint. Who is less than pleased to find just who is under his infamous Ronin mask.
Episodes 1 and 2 of Hawkeye are currently streaming on Disney+. Episode 3 will premiere next Wednesday, December 1. Stay tuned for our continuing coverage of the series including deep dives, episodic recaps, and more!
Today marks the premiere of Marvel Studios’ newest series, Hawkeye, which shines a spotlight on one of the founding members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers: Clint Barton.
The series set in post-Blip New York City, where former Avenger Clint Barton aka Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. But when a threat from his past shows up, Hawkeye reluctantly teams up with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), a 22-year-old skilled archer and his biggest fan, to unravel a criminal conspiracy.
Created by Stan Lee and Don Heck, Clint Barton made his first Marvel Comics appearance in 1964 in Tales of Suspense issue #57. Meanwhile, Renner’s Hawkeye has been a part of the MCU since Phase 1, making an uncredited appearance in Thor and then earning a formal introduction in The Avengers.
While MCU Clint Barton shares similarities with his comic counterpart, one thing has been largely missing: the fact that several of his comic iterations have been portrayed as hard of hearing or deaf. In the 1983 Hawkeye miniseries, Clint put a sonic arrowhead in his mouth to counteract the effects of Crossfire’s mind control machine, which also blew out his eardrums in the process. Matt Fraction and David Aja’s critically acclaimed 2012 Hawkeye series reintroduced Clint’s deafness, which stemmed from abuse he suffered at the hands of his father as a child and from when the Clown (who appears as a character in the show) stabbed him in the ears and ruptured his eardrums.
The unnecessary erasure of this important aspect of Hawkeye’s character has long-since been a sticking point for MCU viewers. So when previews for Hawkeye began to trickle out ahead of the show’s premiere, audiences were quick to point out the fact that Renner could be seen wearing a hearing aid. The series goes on to directly address this in the first two episodes.
In the first episode, the sound goes quiet for a few moments when Clint is watching Rogers: The Musical with his kids. His daughter, Lila, turns to him and asks if he turned his hearing aid off. Later, in episode 2, Kate remarks that Clint is being a gentleman by walking on the outside. He clarifies that he’s doing it so that he can hear her, and he points to the hearing aid that’s in his left ear. Though he declines to give Kate an explanation as to what happened, viewers are shown an onslaught of clips of Clint’s on-screen MCU history with the Avengers — which is full of intense battles, crash landings, and explosions galore.
This means that Clint Barton’s deafness is now a canonical part of the MCU as a direct result of the damage inflicted on his ears in battle over the years. The decision to finally include this aspect of his character is an important step forward in terms of disability representation from Marvel Studios.
Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios
Clint isn’t the only deaf character in Hawkeye, either, as audiences were also given a first look at Maya Lopez in episode 2, who is portrayed by newcomer Alaqua Cox. She already has a spin-off series, Echo, in the works.
Marvel Studios
Meanwhile, the MCU’s first Deaf superhero — Makkari the speedster, portrayed by Lauren Ridloff — was introduced earlier this month in Eternals, Chloé Zhao’s groundbreaking new film about a group of heroes from beyond the stars.
Episode 3 of Hawkeye will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on Wednesday, December 1. Stay tuned for our weekly episodic recaps, theories, reviews, and more!
Ah, you didn’t think Jack was just future step-father to Kate Bishop, did you? As with all Marvel projects, there’s always more than meets the eye, and Mr. Jack Duquesne is our hidden find of the Hawkeye series thus far.
Marvel
In the comics, Clint Barton is a runaway who joined a traveling circus as a boy after being orphaned and learned all of his skills during his time there. Originally, he began training with the circus’ expert blades expert, Swordsman a.k.a Jacques Duquesne.
The story goes that Barton discovered Duquesne stealing money from the circus and the two end up at odds. Barton and Duquesne fight, then another circus performer, Trickshot, saves Barton in the knick of time, and Duquesne flees and becomes a supervillain. As a result, Barton continues training with Trickshot, the circus’ master archer, and it’s then revealed he’s quite a master with a bow and arrow. Later, he becomes known as Hawkeye, and the rest is history. (Trickshot and Clint had a similar falling out, but not as bad.)
Hawkeye has been planting clues of Jack being Swordsman long before we even know his name. Kate points out the bizarre number of swords in her mother’s house even before we know Jack exists. Later, he has a noted piqued interest in Ronin’s sword, stealing it after the Tracksuit Mafia break-in, which leads me to believe he may have recognized his protégé’s work and knows exactly who it was beneath that mask. Or maybe he just really likes swords, but I doubt it.
Not much is known about MCU Barton’s early days, so a backstory involving the circus may still be in the cards. However, it leaves out an important aspect that’s important to the series. Why the interest in Eleanor Bishop?
Well, following Swordsman’s original story, it could be as simple as money. In the first episode, during the Black Market auction at the Gala, Jack’s uncle Armand (RIP) notes that Jack doesn’t have $300,000 to pay for Ronin’s sword as the two enter a bidding war. This was strange since from all appearances thus far, Jack is seemingly wealthy. We know that Eleanor Bishop is extremely well off, always has been, and is the owner of what we assume is a very large security company. So, he may just be utilizing Eleanor as a cash flow and will soon find out his fianceé’s daughter is trapezing around with his former student in due time.
It would seem that there’s more to Clint’s past rearing its ugly head again than just his time as Ronin as we originally thought …
Be sure to keep up with our continuing coverage of Hawkeye including episodic recaps, reviews, deep dives, and more! Episode 3 of the series will premiere exclusively on Disney+ Wednesday, December 1.

In an update to the 2021 Grammy Awards, Harry Styles’ Fine Line has been nominated for Best Immersive Audio Album! The award was not given out in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning that two separate lists of nominees were produced for this year. In a statement during last year’s nominations, the Recording Academy explained the reason for the change.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Best Immersive Audio Album Craft Committee was unable to meet. The judging of the entries in this category has been postponed until such time that we are able to meet in a way that is appropriate to judge the many formats and configurations of the entries and is safe for the committee members. The nominations for the 63rd Grammy’s will be announced next year in addition to (and separately from) the 64th Grammy nominations in the category.”
Fine Line will compete in the 2022 category, while last year’s nominees will be judged separately against other albums released in this year of eligibility. Fine Line will compete against Alicia by Alicia Keys, Clique by Patricia Barber, The Future Bites by Steven Wilson, and Stille Grender by Anne Karin Sundal-Ask and Det Norske Jentekor.
Styles won the award for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Watermelon Sugar” at last year’s ceremony, with Fine Line also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album. “Adore You” was also nominated for Best Music Video. The 64th Grammy Awards will take place on January 21, 2022.
