‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Recap: Episode 6 “From the Desert Comes a Stranger”

Just when we thought things couldn’t top last week’s episode of The Book of Boba Fett, which was full of exciting moments, “From the Desert Comes a Stranger” came bearing even more gifts. This week’s penultimate episode was packed with familiar faces, exciting nods, and promises of the battle that’s soon to come.

The Marshal

A familiar figure approaches the Pyke Syndicate as they pack up their goods on a speeder — Cobb Vanth, the Marshal of Mos Pelgo. The Marshal notes that although the Pykes may have an arrangement with the authorities in Mos Eisley and Mos Espa, they certainly don’t in his territory. He makes them an offer to leave quietly and do their business elsewhere, but they reach for their blasters instead. The sole survivor leaves a chest of spice, which Cobb kicks over and allows to blow away in the wind.

A visit

As promised, Din is on his way to visit Grogu. R2-D2 is there waiting for him when he lands, and Din awkwardly addresses the droid as he says, “Hello friend, I’m looking for Skywalker.” R2 leads him through the woods, and we see that droids are hard at work building huts. Din is then reminded of why exactly he doesn’t like droids when R2 shuts off and stops responding to him.

Elsewhere on the planet, Luke and Grogu are meditating, and the latter becomes distracted by a frog. He uses the Force to bring his snack over to him, but Luke notices and scolds him. Grogu looks sad, so Luke uses the Force to lift up all of the frogs in the field instead. They walk through the woods, and Luke tells Grogu that he reminds him of someone … Yoda. He tells him how Yoda used to speak in riddles and asks if anyone where Grogu is from talked like that. This seems to pique Grogu’s interest, and Luke offers to help him remember “home.” We see a scene of Jedi fighting off clone troopers … Order 66. Grogu was raised at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Din has fallen asleep on the bench, and he wakes up to find Ahsoka watching over him. He informs her that he’s there to see Grogu, and she tells him that the droids are currently building Luke’s Jedi Academy, and Grogu will be its first student. Din insists that he wants to see Grogu, and the two take a walk. Ahsoka reminds him about her warning to him, in which she said that his attachment to Grogu would be difficult to let go of. They eventually stop at a clearing, where they can see Luke and Grogu off in the distance. Ahsoka asks the Mandalorian if he’s doing this for Grogu or himself, and she eventually convinces him that seeing him will only make things more difficult for the Padawan. He finally relents, leaving the gift behind.

As Din takes off in his ship, Grogu and Luke watch from a distance. The Child reaches a hand out toward the sky. Seeing that he’s distracted, Luke pushes Grogu to continue on with his training (and we get a wonderful parallel of Luke and Yoda as he carries Grogu on his back). With the help of a training remote, Grogu eventually gets the hang of balancing and jumping with the Force. Ahsoka comes to watch, and after remarking that the Mandalorian visited, Luke wonders if Grogu’s heart is really in this. Ahsoka replies, “So much like your father.” (Yep, I’m crying.) When Luke asks what he should do about the Child, Ahsoka tells him to trust his instincts before she takes her leave.

A reunion

Din arrives back on Tatooine, promptly heading for the Palace, where Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, Krrsantan, and the Mods are discussing strategies and plans. Fennec states that they need foot soldiers, and Din tells them that he has a solution. He makes his way over to Mos Pelgo, where he reunites with Cobb Vanth. He explains the situation with the Pyke Syndicate and tells him that he needs him to lead a garrison with his people, but it appears that the residents of Freetown (no longer Mos Pelgo) aren’t interested. However, after Din leaves, the Marshal decides to gather all of the citizens that are of fighting age for a meeting.

Cad Bane

Vanth sees a figure approaching out in the distance, and when they get closer, they tell him, “Whatever Fett is paying you, we’ll match. And all you’ve got to do is stay put and let things play out.” It’s the ruthless bounty hunter Cad Bane. Leaning heavily into The Mandalorian‘s signature western vibe, the two have a standoff, and Vanth refuses to back down as he tells him that Tatooine is closed for business to the spice runners. Vanth’s deputy, not listening to his previous orders, reaches for his blaster, and Bane shoots both of them. The bounty hunter leaves the town with a chilling message: “Tatooine belongs to the Syndicate. As long as the spice keeps running, everyone will be left alone.”

The violence begins

Two of the Pykes arrive at the Sanctuary, and Garsa Fwip is perplexed when they decline to have their helmets “cleaned.” They get up, leaving their camtono behind, and their mission soon becomes clear. The building explodes.

A choice

Luke tells Grogu that the Mandalorian brought a gift for him, and he opens the package to find a shirt made of beskar chainmail. He then reaches into the box beside him to pull out something else — Yoda’s lightsaber. Grogu has to make a choice, he can only pick one. If he chooses the armor, he may return to Din, but he will be forsaking the way of the Jedi. And if he chooses the lightsaber, he will be the first student of Luke’s Jedi Academy. Mastering the ways of the Force can take many years, though. Given the way that Grogu ages, he may never see Din Djarin again. Grogu looks back and forth between the two, torn.

“Which do you choose?”

The final episode of The Book of Boba Fett will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on Wednesday, February 9. Follow along with all of our weekly recaps here.

‘Something Fabulous’ Review: A Hilarious Regency Romp With Heart

0

An uptight duke and two headstrong twins. A marriage proposal gone horribly wrong. One fabulous road trip. Something Fabulous is Alexis Hall’s latest hit, made up of equal parts hilarity and heart. It’s a historical romance that isn’t afraid to be thoroughly modern in its characterizations (and its treatment of its queer leads) while still retaining the charm of a Jane Austen novel. It’s laugh out loud funny, but its moments of sincerity are breathtaking.

Our protagonist is Valentine Layton, the Duke of Malvern, whose every move is governed by maintaining his status and the order of the world. His best friend might be his valet, and his existence is lonely, but it satisfies him. He’s spent his life not understanding the way others move on instinct and feelings, finding comfort in routine and a sense of duty. Since he was a boy, he has been intended to marry Arabella Tarleton, and being a gentleman of his word, he travels to propose despite feeling nothing for her.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) for poor Valentine, Arabella has notions of “romance” and “adventure” rather than “quiet, dutiful life” on her mind. Insulted and scared by Valentine’s proposal, Arabella bolts. Arabella’s equally fanciful twin brother Bonny is convinced that if Valentine could simply propose again and mean it, Arabella will change her mind. Thus begins a madcap chase across the English countryside after Arabella as the grumpy Duke finds himself opening up to the carefree Bonny. But will his newfound feelings trump his fears?

First and foremost, Something Fabulous is incredibly entertaining. Hall’s worlds are always populated with side characters who are just as funny and well drawn as the leads, and that is no exception here. The plot moves at a brisk pace, but never so fast that the reader is lost. It’s the type of novel that almost requires a full afternoon to simply get lost in the story with no other obligations (I finished it in one sitting). It’s packed with romantic tropes that always feel fresh, and if you’re looking for a solid regency romance, you’ve found one.

But Something Fabulous contains hidden depths beyond its fluffy premise and promise of a happy ending. Hall chooses to make almost every character in the book queer with wonderfully rich lives. A running gag is Valentine’s complete obliviousness to this, and it’s both hilarious and effective at driving home how ridiculous it is to assume that heterosexuality is the default setting. Valentine himself is demisexual, and it is moving to watch his growing realizations about himself and how he loves as the book goes on. It’s a journey that is rarely portrayed, particularly in this genre, and it’s done well.

Bonny at first seems like he has his life figured out, bursting with confidence and light that calls to Valentine. But we soon learn that there’s more to Bonny’s sunny disposition than meets the eye. These two characters help each other become the best versions of themselves, and their sweet (and it must be said, extremely hot) dynamic is what gives Something Fabulous its beating heart. I could read another five books about their lives, and hopefully they will make an appearance in the forthcoming sequel/spin-off novel Something Spectacular. Witty, entertaining, and all manner of hot, Something Fabulous is sure to please Alexis Hall fans looking for his trademark sense of humor and a skillfully crafted romance.

Something Fabulous is out now wherever books are sold. You can learn more about Alexis Hall’s other work on his website.

‘Superman & Lois’ Recap: Season 2, Episode 4 “The Inverse Method”

In this episode of Superman & Lois, Lois reunites with her sister, and many confrontations are afoot. Keep reading for what happens in “The Inverse Method.”

Lois Confronts Ally

Lois wants to meet with her sister, but Ally shows up at the diner instead. Lois says what’s left is a shell, and she’s lost all contact with her family. Ally reminds her she still actively talks to their father. Lois remarks it’s because he’s not the one that pulled her out of the bathtub. Whatever she has to do, Lois will make sure everyone, including Lucy, sees Ally for the fraud she is once and for all.

Ally tries to scare Lois by saying she doesn’t respond well to threats, but neither does Lois. She quickly grabs her phone and calls Chrissy to tell her they need to find Lucy, now. Chrissy stays at the Gazette all night catfishing on the Dark Web under the alias Penny and receives an invitation to a conference Ally is holding. Both she and Lois head to New Carthage to track down Lucy.

The Podcast

Lucy admits on the podcast that Lois not only edited the story to make it seem like she had a vendetta against Ally, but she recanted much of what she told her in the first place. She knows her sister is gone but Clark tries to reason with her by saying she can pull her back.

Bizarro Makes Land Fall in Smallville

Bizarro gets in a fight with Clark and John attempts to back him up by getting hold of his hammer. John hits him with it and scares him off, but Clark is shaken up by the whole meeting. Anderson and his men make a move to take down Bizarro But two of his men are dead. Superman makes the save for Tag and the two battle it out, with John close behind. John is low on power but he transfers all remaining energy to his hammer, leaving him exposed. After fighting Bizarro, Superman grabs John, who has severe injuries and speeds him out of there.

Jonathan and the Yellow Mist

Jordan’s girlfriend had previously given him some of the mist that he knew was going around. He’s apprehensive about taking it because he’s not sure if it’s the lifestyle for him, but she promises she’s not pressuring him. The mist appears to give whoever takes it powers like Superman. At football practice, he takes some and immediately feels the effects. With his new super sight, he’s able to make more accurate passes.

Jordan’s Close Call

Jordan and Sarah head to the local mart to pick up a few sandwiches. While Sarah and her friend catch up at the check-out counter, Jordan overhears two boys trying to steal liquor. Trying to lend a helping hand thinking they’ll sneak away, he freezes the spill on the ground so they slip and get caught. The problem? The entire place has cameras, so they indeed caught Jordan on camera using his powers. He gets a call from his grandpa who says while it was a noble deed, it was stupid. He scrubbed the footage to look out for Jordan so they won’t see him using his cold breath.

Lois Faces Off with Lucy

Lucy invites Lois to her hotel room to talk. She wants to know why she recanted the story. Ally’s calling is more important than Lois ruining her life again. Lois just wanted to get her sister back safely. This all stems from their mom leaving them. Lucy claims Lois changes everything to fit her narrative. Lucy records everything to have it on record this time and Ally broadcasts it to the entire room. Chrissy is upset that there’s obviously more to the story than she’s leading on.

Kyle’s Big Lie

Kyle heads to the local bar in disguise, and the crowd immediately greets him, including the bartender. She says everyone has missed him around, but not more than she has, grabbing his hand. He snatches his own out of her grasp and says that’s what he’s there to talk about.

Superman & Lois airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Episodes stream next day on cwtv.com and The CW app.

‘The Batman’: The Riddler Literally Crashes A Funeral in New Extended Look

0

The Batman director Matt Reeves has released the full 4k funeral clip from the upcoming film featuring the DC Comics caped crusader. The clip had recently surfaced online in bits and pieces. To address the clips “floating around” on the internet, Reeves decided to upload the clip personally so fans can appreciate the full scene in its highest quality, which he addressed on Twitter.

In the clip, we see Paul Dano’s Riddler looming over a funeral, looking directly at Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne as a vehicle comes crashing into the funeral. Crashing the funeral isn’t just for fun, as we soon learn the Riddler has a message he wants to be delivered addressed to the Batman. It would appear from this scene that the Riddler knows the identity of Gotham’s dark knight, and that he won’t hesitate to go to extreme lengths to prove his point.

Advance tickets for The Batman go on sale February 10, and you can catch the movie exclusively in theaters March 4.

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Recap: Season 3, Episode 4 “Push”

This week’s episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star concluded the ice storm saga. With Grace in labor and her and Billy trapped in the middle of the storm, Judd, Tommy, and Owen race to find them. Meanwhile, with T.K.’s condition worsening, Carlos prepares to say goodbye, but not before we find out what really happened with Tarlos.

Keep reading to find out what happened in the newest episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star, “Push.”

Trapped In the Middle of a Storm

Still trapped and with no cell service, Billy decides to go out in the storm after getting some weasel-like comments from a very pregnant Grace to do some foraging. While Billy is out, Grace prays to God just hoping everything works out for her child who deserves the chance to meet her father.

Billy comes back and the two soon get to walking to a tour bus that was abandoned not far down from them. Grace tries to get comfortable as Billy tries to get the heat going by hot-wiring the bus. However, there is no fuel, so he goes back out into the storm with a funnel and a tube to siphon some fuel from abandoned cars.

After coming back with a gallon full of diesel, Billy gets the bus going but then passes out from having sipped a bit of fuel.

Stop Dying, T.K.!

In his coma dream, T.K. eats cookies with Gwyn, just having a good time. Gwyn breaks the news that the cookies don’t exist and T.K. asks his mother if he’s dead. She tells him that he’s not and she’s not really there. She needs to be the person to tell him to stop dying.

A Heartbreaking Revelation

Kevin Estrada/FOX

Marjan is back at the 122, but all Judd cares about is if she was ever able to get in touch with Owen. He tries to contact him again after finding out he’s back at home while Mateo, surprising Marjan, asks if she got him to sign the Billy letter. Mateo vaguely catches Marjan up on what happened with Paul and a collapsed building. He casually tells Marjan that Paul is in the hospital and he is okay, and, noticing the looks on Judd and Mateo’s faces, she wonders who isn’t.

Owen, meanwhile, is back at home and Tommy, likely hearing from Judd, is at his doorstep to deliver the news that his son his dying.

Carlos Stop Breaking My Heart

Jordin Althaus/FOX

Oh, Carlos. If there was an Emmy for “Outstanding Performance That Will Break Your Heart,” it would go to Rafael Silva. Carlos and Nancy have this touching moment together, where Carlos says he’s holding a vigil for a man who doesn’t even want him in his life. Nancy assures Carlos that T.K. loves him. While he doesn’t talk about Carlos much at work, he does bite off Nancy’s head whenever she mentions Carlos’ name. It’s just too painful which means he still has it bad for Carlos. It’s obvious.

If he loves me so much… then why did he break my heart?”

Later as Carlos is sitting by T.K.’s bedside, Mama Reyes makes a surprise visit and gives Carlos the advice he desperately needed. Carlos admits to his mother that they broke up and he didn’t want to let them down. Andrea tells her son that they are proud of him no matter what, and they love T.K. too. But she is going to have a conversation with T.K. when he wakes up about breaking her baby’s heart and getting away with it.

A Clear Indication of Love and Anger

Andrea tells Carlos he needs to talk to T.K. and tell him what’s on his heart. Though if Carlos told him what’s on his heart, it wouldn’t be very nice. Andrea tells her son that he needs to say it and T.K. needs to hear it. Heaven forbid this is the last time Carlos can say what he needs to say to T.K. Andrea leaves her son alone and closes the door.

Carlos reluctantly pulls his chair closer to T.K.’s bed and starts talking to him, pain in his voice and his eyes. While breaking down, Carlos tells T.K. he’s so mad at him right now.

“And the worst part about this is… if this is… goodbye, I can’t even hold your hand. Or run my fingers through your hair, or… kiss your head. Not without it feeling like it’s some kind of violation.”

A tear runs down Carlos’ cheek as he goes on to tell off his dying ex-boyfriend, to just believe people when they tell you who they are.

What Happened With Tarlos?

Kevin Estrada/FOX

Meanwhile, T.K. is in his coma dream and watching it all go down, and Gwyn wonders what happened. As Carlos is going on his rant, Gwyn breaks down T.K. and he confesses what went wrong. After the townhouse burnt down, T.K. and Carlos stayed with Owen while they were looking for a place. Carlos found a great loft downtown but the landlord didn’t want someone to rent it, they wanted someone to buy it. And T.K.’s credit score wasn’t that good, he didn’t have a lot of money. So they dealt with the crushing disappointment, and Carlos said he didn’t care where he lived as long as it was with T.K.

Eventually, Carlos found something and it turned out it was the same place, surprising T.K. with their new place. T.K. thought it was a total power move, Carlos knew that he didn’t have any money and he still put his name on the deed. He panicked because everything was perfect. T.K. did the thing and blew it up. He knows he hurt Carlos and he’s afraid he won’t take him back. There’s only one way to find out and that’s by waking up.

Cap’s Plan

Jordin Althaus/FOX

Nancy, Carlos, Marjan, Paul, and Tommy are waiting in the ICU and Owen comes out of T.K.’s room to give them the news that T.K.’s body is trying to shut down and it’s because his heart stopped. But Owen thinks it’s because his did and that Marjan was right. About everything. He was afraid he wouldn’t be able to put the 126 back together as everyone was looking toward him to do something so he ran away. Owen blames himself for what happened, but after everything, he finally received the message. It might be too late and he may not be able to fix things, but he’s going to try. He’s going to find Billy and he’s going to put that signed letter of apology in his hand and get reinstated.

“Look, I don’t know if I can fix the world in time for my… for my boy to wake up but when he does I want him to see that he’s not the only Strand who’s still fighting.”

Tommy offers to go with Owen and the two leave after Owen gives Carlos a reassuring hug, a hug they both definitely needed. Driving out in the storm, Tommy tries to get Billy over the radio but there’s no response. She tries to apologize to Owen about what happened with T.K., still blaming herself. Owen says she already has his forgiveness and whatever happens, there is no one he would have rather have had his son serve under than her.

A Snowy Delivery

Kevin Estrada/FOX

Judd gets a call on the radio from Tommy, and Owen tells him that his wife is not at home. They’ve been trying to track down Billy and his GPS was pinging to the Ryder residence. But neither him or Grace are there. Judd tells them to look around for a pink duffel, which is Grace’s go-bag for the hospital. Owen says there isn’t one and that’s when Judd realizes his wife has gone into labor, “of all the damn days.” The three make a plan to go out and look for her on the route to the hospital and meet in the middle, and Judd prays to God that his girls are okay.

In the bus, Grace is trying everything she can to stall the delivery because she wants Judd to be there. Help soon arrives, as Tommy and Owen find Grace’s car and follow footprints to the bus. Judd gets off the firetruck to look for his wife. Tommy takes her place in front of Grace, and just before Baby Girl Ryder makes her way into the world, Judd makes it in time.

The Miracle of Life

T.K. starts moving in his bed and Carlos calls for nurses. They pull Carlos aside and take the tubes out of T.K.’s mouth. Carlos watches from outside the room, with Andrea by his side. Carlos is finally let back in, but still worried, though T.K., even weak, is the one to reassure him.

“Hey baby. Breathe.”

Carlos lets out his breath that he’s been holding in for what seems like forever and holds T.K.’s hand after some hesitation, stroking his face and kissing him, as T.K. hugs him.

At the same time, Grace is pushing with everything in her as Tommy and Judd help deliver the baby girl. Soon, a cry can be heard, and the newest little Ryder has officially arrived, beautiful as ever.

Outside the bus, Owen breaks down and Tommy is there to comfort him.

New Lives

What is likely some time after T.K. wakes up, Carlos once again surprises him with the loft that is all finished and furnished. T.K. is speechless, seeing his exercise bike and throw blanket. Carlos welcomes T.K. home to their new place.

Evie and Izzy meet Baby Girl Ryder, even bringing her a little penguin. Tommy holds the baby and asks what her name is. Grace tells her they wanted to name her Charlie, they wanted to honor Charles and don’t want to overstep. Tommy likes it and couldn’t be more honored.

The 126 Is A Family

Jordin Althaus/FOX

The 126 crew comes together to watch their firehouse go down and they are ready to say goodbye. However, Marjan gets a message that their GoFundMe to save the 126 just got fully funded. Five million, and it was funded by none other than Lindsey’s father, the rich milk carton seller. The 126 is back, baby! And at the official reopening, the crew push the rigs in, everyone celebrates, with Gwyn and baby Jonah making a special appearance in the real world this time, and all was right with the world.

The 126 is a family. These uniforms bind us tighter than blood. Like a family, we argue, screw up, let each other down. But as long as we keep fighting for one another, there is no challenge we cannot rise to. There is no crisis that we cannot overcome. This building stands today not because of its bricks and mortar but because of the heart and the soul of the family inside of it. The 126. And so it shall always be.

Captain Owen Strand

  • Two nurses rudely talked about T.K.’s condition and his chances as Carlos just stood by the door.
  • Grace telling Billy he has a weasel tongue and weasel hands. Never upset a woman in labor.
  • In T.K.’s coma dream, Gwyn called her son by his full name, Tyler Kennedy, when he was avoiding talking about what happened between him and Carlos.
  • At the newly reopened 126, the fallen brothers have a new place on the wall, with Tim Rosewater added.
