Announcements & Trailers from The 2023 Game Awards We’re Most Excited About

The 10th annual Game Awards took place December 7, celebrating the year’s best in gaming and recognizing the thousands of incredibly talented people who bring games spanning genres and universes to life for players to enjoy. In addition to the awards, there were plenty announcements and trailers showcased to get players excited for some of what’s to come.

Exodus

With a character voiced by actor Matthew McConaughey who announced the game during the Game Awards with the line “In this game time moves differently,” this sci-fi RPG from Archetype Entertainment demonstrates the effects of our actions over years and decades, showcased through the use of time dialation. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

A long-awaited new look at the action-adventure sequel from Ninja Theory, coming to Xbox Series X and GamePass in 2024.

Kemuri

Ikumi Nakamura took the stage to announce her first independent project, Kemuri. The brief teaser shown showcases the beautiful art style for the game, and while not many details are known at this time, the setting resembles a futuristic Japanese metropolis with a team of presumably heroes using a mix of futuristic technology and weapons to hunt for hidden creatures to face.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

One of our co-directors would question what alternate universe we’d entered if I didn’t include this on the list.

Hideo Kojima’s OD

The much beloved Hideo Kojima announced his next project, OD, where he stated he’s trying to do something never been seen before with the new title: “Not a movie, not a game, but a new form of media.” Academy Award winner Jordan Peele joined Kojima on stage to announce that the pair are collaborating for OD, with Peele describing the game as “completely immersive and utterly terrifying.”

Jurassic Park: Survival

Set the day following the end of the 1993 film, InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, must survive Isla Nublar in this single-player action-adventure game. The never-before-told story presents thrilling encounters through the danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision. Black Myth: Wukong

Setting an August 20, 2024 release date, Black Myth: Wukong, which is based on Journey to the West and Chinese mythology, received a new trailer during the awards. The trailer showcases the unique character designs for some of the many mythological monsters players will face-off against.

The First Berserker: Khazan

Upcoming single-player action RPG The First Berserker: Khazan is the next entry in the long-running Dungeon & Fighter universe, coming from Nexon and developer Neople. After the Great General Khazan and Archmage Ozma defeat the Berserk Dragon Hismar and the Dragon Legion, players experience Khazan’s story as he is falsely accused of treason and exiled beyond the empire, with combat taking center stage as Khazan seeks vengeance against those who caused his downfall.

Blade

With a declining interest in live-action Marvel content, it’s always a breath of fresh air to get a new video game announcement that utilizes the characters. The newest announcement for a Marvel game to come out of the Game Awards is Blade, featuring the Daywalker himself. The game is described as a mature action-adventure and was introduced as a dream come true for True Believers.

Last Sentinel

Steve C. Martin took the stage to announce Last Sentinel from Lightspeed LA, a futuristic AAA open world game, which showcased a cinematic trailer during the awards where a young girl and her cyborg mother are under attack. The group is saved by a motorcycle-riding hero called “The Demon” before the trailer ends by panning to show a sprawling cyberpunk city.

Asgard’s Wrath II

The iconic Matt Mercer took the stage to introduce the premiere trailer for Asgard’s Wrath II, in which he voices the God of Mischief himself, Loki. The trailer showcases gameplay and battles against various monsters and learn about the threat that awaits from the Trickster God Loki. The VR action RPG from developer Sanzaru Game is available for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest Pro on December 15, 2023.

Monster Hunter Wilds

Capcom unveiled the latest entry to the Monster Hunter franchise, Monster Hunter Wilds. While not much information is available on the game outside of a hopeful 2025 launch, the beautiful trailer does build excitement through showcasing various mounts and of course monsters to be hunted in the upcoming came. Capcom indicated more information on the game will come Summer of 2024.
