HBO Cancels Popular Sci-fi Drama ‘Westworld’

After four seasons, HBO has decided to pull the plug on their science fiction series, Westworld. This announcement has come as a shock to fans as co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy hoped for a fifth season. Westworld has always been a highly ambitious and intricate story. Nolan and Joy had plans to wrap up the series in five seasons, but sadly it seems that will no longer be an option.

The first season of Westworld is seen as the favorite among fans. The series was revolutionary and brought a fresh take to the old western landscape by adding in their unique kind of androids that walk, talk, and think on their own. Westworld was one of HBO’s biggest hits and earned the network 54 Emmy nominations. A drop in ratings and budget cuts seem to be the reason for the downfall of the show.

The fourth season of Westworld was recently released and will be the finale of the show. Thankfully, the show was not left on a huge cliffhanger as other unfortunate series have been. The final moments could be an ending while being open-ended enough to possibly lead to other projects somewhere down the road. Fans have seen many characters come back from death through the years so there will always be a ray of hope for Westworld.

Catch up on all four seasons of Westworld available to stream on HBO Max and Hulu.
