If the hilarious, exasperated ongoing commentary from the official Twitter account for Prime Video’s diabolical hit series The Boys hasn’t made it clear, the team behind the show is well aware that fans are eagerly chomping at the bit for a taste of what’s to come in season 3. This eagerness comes as no surprise given the show’s massive popularity and the fact that the pandemic delayed what would have originally been a 2021 premiere for the upcoming season.

Yesterday, a cheeky tweet put fans on high alert to “keep an eye out” for the long-awaited season 3 teaser.

While the teaser itself has yet to materialize, a poster with an ominous message has just been revealed. Pictured on the black and white poster is our fearsome leader himself, Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher, with some disconcertingly bright, lasery-looking eyes. Paired with the sentiment, “Soon, it’ll be time to level the playing field,” this now begs the question … could we see Butcher take a tumble with Compound V (the drug responsible for endowing Supes with their powers)? Despite his deep-seated hatred for Supes, this may be the only way for him to get his revenge on Homelander.

This theory isn’t too much of a stretch, because Butcher and the rest of the Boys regularly use Compound V in the comics in order to enhance their abilities so they can do some real damage in their ongoing war against the Supes. So this may very well be a plot that makes its way into season 3.

The Boys is based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The show is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes — who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods — abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as the Boys continue on a heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven and Vought — the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes and covers up all of their dirty secrets.

In addition to Urban, the show stars Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Tomer Capone, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, and more. Claudia Doumit and Colby Minifie were promoted to series regulars for this upcoming season.

The Boys family is set to expand in season 3 with plenty of new additions, including Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess, Katia Winter as Little Nina, Miles Gaston Villanueva as Supersonic, Sean Patrick Flanery as Gunpowder, Nick Wechsler as Blue Hawk, Frances Turner as M.M.’s wife Monique, and Kristin Booth and Jack Doolan as the TNT Twins.

The first three episodes of season 3 of The Boys will land exclusively on Prime Video on June 3. The remaining five episodes will then premiere weekly on Fridays. Stay tuned for our episodic recaps, reviews, and more. In the meantime, don’t miss the brand-new, delightfully twisted animated anthology series set in The Boys universe — The Boys Presents: Diabolical — now streaming on Prime Video.

SXSW attendees can look forward to catching a panel with showrunner Eric Kripke and the cast of The Boys this Saturday, March 12.
