It’s official, another Downton Abbey movie is coming!
A little over two years after the release of the first film, Downton Abbey 2 is set to arrive in theaters just in time for Christmas. It has been confirmed that series creator and writer Julian Fellowes and the entire cast will be returning, along with some newcomers that include Hugh Dancy (Hannibal), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy), Nathalie Baye (Nox), and Dominic West (The Wire).
Downton Abbey is a historical drama, with six splendid seasons which ran from 2010-2015, that follows the lives of the British aristocratic Crawley family and their servants between 1912 and 1926. The first film picked back up in 1927, depicting a visit by the King and Queen to the Crawley’s English country house in the Yorkshire countryside. Despite the fact that years had passed since the series finale, the movie was a hit amongst audiences, capturing the same magic that we all know and love from the show.
Some of the cast members have already taken to social media to share their excitement about the news.
The plot of Downton Abbey 2 is currently unknown. The film is due to arrive in theaters on December 22, 2021.
