In the season finale of the fifth season of new Doctor Who, “The Big Bang,” Amy, The Eleventh Doctor’s companion, was put in the Pandorica at Stonehenge to save her life. The Doctor uses time travel to go back to the future and save the universe. Rory, in Auton form, vows to stay with her to protect his fiancee and the Pandorica until they can be reunited with The Doctor two millenia later. Now, it’s time to learn about some of Rory’s adventures during that time in a new audio drama box set released today by Big Finish.

In The Lone Centurion Volume 1, Rory has misplaced the Pandorica and travel to Rome to retrieve it. The box set is composed of three brand new stories.

Arthur Darvill is back as Rory Williams and is joined by Ayesha Antoine (Locusta), Mina Anwar (Juliana), Omar Baroud (Quinn), Timothy Blore (Metteus), Samantha Béart (Anna), Jacob Dudman (Lepidus), Robyn Holdaway (Decima), Max Hutchison (Marinus), Rhys Jennings (Felix), Glen McCready (Varro), Terry Molloy (Tacitus), Joseph Tweedale (Caesar), Joanna Van Kampen (Augusta), and Inès de Clercq (Marcella).

You can read the synopsis of The Lone Centurion Volume 1 here:

“Legend tells of the Lone Centurion – a mysterious figure dressed as a Roman soldier who stood guard over the Pandorica, warning off those who would attempt to open it; a constant warrior whose story appeared in the folk history of a dozen civilisations.

Only… he seems to have misplaced it.

Travelling to Rome in search of the Pandorica, Rory finds himself forced to perform as a gladiator in the Colosseum… where he attracts the attention of the Imperial household.”

1.1 “Gladiator” by David Llewellyn

“Kidnapped, Rory is taken to Rome and thrown into the arena, where his hapless inability to die brings him to the attention of the Emperor.”

1.2 “The Unwilling Assassin” by Sarah Ward

“The Roman Empire has a new official assassin. Lethal, cunning, and utterly unsuited to the job. Can Rory Williams succeed at assassination without actually killing anyone?”

1.3 “I, Rorius” by Jacqueline Rayner

“Drowning in a sea of plots and conspiracies, Rory just wants his life back. But in Ancient Rome, people don’t retire, they die. And that’s a bit difficult when you’re immortal.”

A second volume of The Lone Centurion will be released in July 2022. The Lone Centurion Volume 1 is available to order on Big Finish website as a CD or a download. Listeners can also save money by ordering a bundle of the two volumes.
