It’s official: HBO has decided to part ways with wayward lovers Billy and Ruby. Run has just been canceled after one season on the network (as originally reported by Deadline). In a statement, HBO said, “After exploring potential ways of continuing Ruby and Billy’s journey, together with showrunner Vicky Jones, we have come to the decision that we will not be moving forward with a second season of Run.” The news comes after the season one finale ended on a major cliffhanger, creating hope for fans that a second season was in the cards.

The show starred Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson as Ruby and Billy, former lovers who always promised to reunite and cross the country together by train if either texted “run.” When Billy texts Ruby, both leave their lives behind and fulfill their pact. But why are each of them running – and who are they running from? The dark comedy series was well received critically and is on the shortlist for upcoming Emmy Award nominations (in particular for Wever’s performance). It was created and executive produced by Vicky Jones and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The full season can be watched now on HBO and HBO Max (you can check out our review of the series and recaps here).
