Your Favorite Actor Might Also Be Your Favorite Musician
Often it is not recognized that celebrities create in more than one art form. Movies and TV shows have been adding more musical elements where the characters perform, showcasing the talents of the actors/actresses. There have been musical episodes on Riverdale, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Community, and Daria to name a few. Celebrities often showcase their talents at musical events and concerts held at fan conventions.
Here are ten actors/actresses who are also musically inclined.
James Marsters
James Marsters is an actor from shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Runaways. He is also apart of a California rock band called Ghost of the Robot providing vocals and guitar. Other band members are Charlie De Mars (vocals, guitar), Jordan Latham (drums), Kevin McPherson (bass), Sullivan Marsters (vocals, guitar), and Eddie Underwood (lead guitar). The band has released three albums as well has toured over the U.S. and Europe.
Katey Sagal
Peggy Bundy, Cate Hennessy, Turanga Leela, Gemma Teller-Morrow, those are just some of the iconic characters this versatile Katey Sagal has played. Sagal has a major background in music, she used to sing backup for Bob Dylan, Bette Midler and others. On the Show 8 Simple Rules, her character Cate sang at an open mic night. Not only that, but she also sings on the Sons of Anarchy soundtrack. Sagal has released three solo albums, has sung with The Forest Rangers, and is currently touring and singing with The Reluctant Apostles.
Bethany Joy Lenz
One Tree Hill alumni Bethany Joy Lenz plays both piano and guitar and writes her own music. While on One Tree Hill her character Haley pursued music and sang multiple times in the shows nine-season run showcasing Lenz’s musical ability. Lenz has albums released both as a solo artist and in former band Everly with Amber Sweeney. Lenz also wrote and performed three songs for the soundtrack Ten Inch Hero which starred One Tree Hill castmate, Danneel Ackles.
Majandra Delfino
One of Majandra Delfino’s most recognizable roles was playing Maria DeLuca on the TV show Roswell for three seasons where she sang in several episodes of the show. When she was young, she was part of an all-girls singing group called China Doll. They even got to open for the Bee Gees at a benefit concert. She is currently working on a third album due out later this year.
Katherine McNamara
Before she was a Shadowhunter, Katherine McNamara was on Broadway at a young age. She performed as Fredrika in A Little Night Music alongside Angela Lansbury. McNamara plays guitar and piano and also song writes. You can hear her voice on the soundtrack to Contest. Her new single “Ember” can be heard on the season two finale of Shadowhunters.
Gil McKinney
Gil McKinney is known for his roles in ER, Friday Night Lights, Once Upon a Time and Supernatural. With the help of his fans, a Kickstarted campaign, and musician/producer Jason Manns, McKinney released his debut album How Was I To Know. The album features original and song covers. McKinney has a holiday album being released this November.
Emmy Rossum
Her most recognizable role is portraying Fiona Gallagher on the TV show Shameless. But what you may not be aware of is Emmy Rossum was part of the Metropolitan Opera Children’s Chorus when she was seven. Over five years she sang in six languages in twenty operas including La Boheme and A Midsummers Night Dream. Rossum has two albums released and appears on multiple soundtracks including The Phantom of the Opera, Songcatcher, and Nola.
Brie Larson
Captain Marvel Actress Brie Larson had her first record deal with Universal Records at the age of 13. Her 2005 pop album lead to a 2005 tour with Jesse McCartney. The next time Larson can be heard singing is on the film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World soundtrack bonus video.
Anthony Stewart Head
Buffy the Vampire Slayer alumni Anthony Stewart Head has albums out as a solo artist, bands, and soundtracks. The two most familiar soundtracks would be the musical episode “Once More With Feeling” from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Repo! The Genetic Opera. Head was part of a band called Two Way in 1983, they released a 45 three-song single.
Michael Rosenbaum
Comedian, actor, and podcaster Michael Rosenbaum sings in a band called Left on Laurel, formerly known as The Sandwich, who have opened for and toured with musician/producer Jason Manns. The Sandwich is composed of Rob Danson, Tom Lally, Kent Irwin, Carl Mcdowell, and Rosenbaum. He also sings on Manns album Covers with Friends on the song “Mad World”. Left on Laurel is working on a debut album set to be released in February 2019, the album is being produced by Jason Manns.
