HBO Max Shares First Look at the Opening Scene of ‘Wonder Woman 1984’

With a week to go until the release of Wonder Woman 1984 finally making its way into the world, HBO Max has shared a first look at the opening scene of the film. The clip was first shown at DC FanDome earlier today as part of the virtual premiere for the movie.

The clip takes viewers on a journey to Themyscira, with a narration done by a much older Diana saying, “Some days my childhood feels so far away, and others, I can almost see it,” as a young Diana runs across the island and sets out to prove herself at the warrior games with the other Amazons. Before taking off, Antiope warns Diana to pace herself and tells her “The path to greatness is not what you think.” Upon takeoff, the scene flashes between a young Diana and an adult Diana fighting in a much different heroic sense.

Wonder Woman 1984 fast forwards via a time jump from the first World War all the way to the 80s. Gal Gadot (Diana Prince/Wonder Woman) will take on two villains — Barbara Minerva/The Cheetah (Kristen Wiig) and Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) — while Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) finds his way back to Diana.

Check out the clip below.

If you missed out on the opportunity to see the Wonder Woman 1984 virtual premiere on the DC FanDome website, it’s available to watch back on the DC YouTube channel now.

Wonder Woman 1984 lands in theaters on December 25 on HBO Max in the US at no extra cost to subscribers, as well as in theaters.
