‘AEW Dynamite’ Recap: Friendsgiving, MJF & CM Punk Face Off, and More

0

Another week, another episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT! On the Thanksgiving eve episode, MJF and CM Punk come face to face in a heated promo, Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D hosts a friendsgiving celebration, Hangman Adam Page challenges Bryan Danielson, and more.

As CM Punk prepares for his match with QT Marshall, MJF interrupts by coming out to the ring. Addressing Punk as “Punky Brewster,” he says the pipe bomb is his best moment. However, every MJF moment is the best MJF moment. Unlike Punk, he’s not a one-trick pony. MJF turns his attention to verbally finishing him quicker than his UFC career. Punk says he’s disappointed in MJF but thanks him for introducing himself last week. The two get heated after Punk says he thought MJF stood for My Jealous Fan. Punk says he’s in his head because MJF probably has a poster of him in his room and goes on to call him a less famous Miz.

MJF claims nostalgia is a drug; Punk is nothing more than nostalgia. He says he was a fan. Why wouldn’t he have been? Nobody could touch Punk. He then reminds Punk he was the best. Ever since his return, he’s struggled to beat easy competition and to say anything of intrigue. MJF goes on to compare Punk to John Cena by coining a new name for him: PG Punk. He says he might as well be coming out and preaching about Hustle Loyalty and Respect. He can see him, he can see through him. MJF represents everything about the business Punk hates. He was always second best to the “you can’t see me” man and the King of Kings (Triple H). He may claim to be the best in the world, but MJF is better than him and he knows it.

Punk versus QT Marshall

Punk hits a quick shoulder takedown, proceeding to land four body slams in a row to QT. Pinning him in a lateral press, QT kicks out. QT gets the upper hand momentarily until Punk hits him with a back elbow followed by strikes to his head. Punk gets to his feet and fights out of QT’s hold. Creating separation, he back body drops and goes for a clothesline from the ring apron. QT levels punk by bouncing his face off of the ropes. He then goes for the Liger bomb. QT pushes Punk around so Punk shuts him up with a kick to his head. Punk calls for the GTS and hits it.

Bear Country (Bear Boulder and Bear Bronson) versus Gunn Club’s Billy and Colten

Before the match starts, the Gunn Club issues a blindsided attack to Bear Country. Once the bell rings, Boulder presses Billy and throws him down to the mat. With help from Colten and Austin, they send Boulder into the steel steps. Bronson gets thrown back into the ring. Austin assists Colten with the Colt-45 and they pick up the win.
Sting and Darby come out after the match to take them down, Austin getting the short end of the stick as Colten and Billy retreat.

Bobby Fish and Adam Cole Backstage Promo

Cole says the past few weeks have sucked. The Bucks still aren’t cleared to compete and they’ve been losing matches. Cole reminds Bobby that they’re more than just partners, they’re like family. The Best Friends interrupt because, well, that’s their gimmick. Cole says their name is just a name. They’ll prove why they are the real best friends.

Dante’s Decision

The official contract is drafted and offered. Dante checks it over. Lio Rush says anything that has to do with Dante has to do with Lio. Lio says this is business they don’t want to be part of but Dante stops him and signs the contract, taking one of Hook’s snacks.

Jamie Hayter versus Thunder Rosa

Jamie and Rosa lock up, Jamie sends Rosa to the outside of the ring and Rosa reverses Hayter into the barricade. Hayter gets Rosa back inside, throwing her around. Rosa gets her momentum back, dropkicking Hayter in her spine. Rosa sends Hayter into the barricade again, runs into the ring, drop-kicking Hayter again. Rosa tries to fly off the apron but Hayter catches her and body slams her right onto her spine. Hayter creates separation by body-slamming Rosa. Hayter powerbombs her, propping her onto the top rope. Rosa fights out of it with a shotgun dropkick. Rosa knees Hayter’s neck followed up with a dropkick. Rosa attempts a suplex, Hayter reverses it into a Backbreaker. Rosa gets back to her feet, they exchange elbow strikes. Rosa hits the Russian leg sweep into the Peruvian necktie. Hayter is tapping but Rebel and Britt distract. Rosa is able to keep focus to pin Hayter.

Friendsgiving with D.M.D.

Britt Baker, Rebel, and Tony Schiavone are at their friendsgiving table. Britt says it started off badly because Rosa pinned Jamie, advancing into the tournament. However, one thing is still very right: she’s still the champion. Tony says he’s thankful for his friends, but he has bad news. Riho will face Britt on Rampage in a Black Friday Deal match for a title opportunity.

Bryan Danielson versus Colt Cabana

Danielson tries to end the match quickly with a juji gatame but Cabana breaks the hold. Danielson flings Caban into the corner kicking and chopping him. He kicks Cabana in the back of the head. Cabana fights to his feet, but Danielson stays on him. As Danielson charges in for a dropkick, Cabana moves out of the way to create separation. With momentary momentum, Cabana lands a series of right hands to Danielson. Danielson takes control again with a waist lock into a release German suplex. Once again back on the kicks and chops, Danielson sets Cabana on the top rope. Cabana tries to take control, he does, knocking Danielson into the ring as he lands a moonsault. Danielson kicks out. Danielson softens Cabana up for the LeBell lock. Cabana taps out.

Hangman’s Ready for a Fight

Last week on Dynamite, Danielson claimed Page wasn’t ready for a fight in his street clothes. This time, Hangman came for a fight, title and all. Hangman offers the first shot and Danielson takes it. They exchange a flurry of punches. Hangman is sent to the outside and stops Danielson in his tracks with a high boot. Setting up for the Buckshot Lariat, Danielson makes a quick escape.

8 Man Tag Match with Andrade el Idolo, FTR, and Malakai Black versus Cody Rhodes and Death Triangle (PAC, Penta el Zero M, and Rey Fenix)

Rhodes and Harwood start, feeling each other out. Cody grabs Dax into a side headlock, shooting off the ropes into a drop-down and then a leapfrog. It’s Dax’s turn to tax control, mirroring that side headlock. Cody eventually makes the tag to PAC after blocking a slingshot suplex. PAC chops at Harwood who creates separation with a back suplex. Wheeler gets the tag, and PAC sends him flying with an arm drag. Wheeler attempts the getaway but is met with a big boot. PAC tags out to Penta for the assist. Penta, the freshest man in the ring, superkicks Wheeler before hitting with a Cero Miedo off of the ropes.

Wheeler tags out to Andrade and Fenix tags in and immediately hits Andrade with an enzuigiri and a springboard tijeras. Rhodes tags back in but finds himself in danger so he tags back out to Fenix. The men are fighting it out in the ring getting back under control during the commercial break. Eventually, PAC tags himself in hitting one move after the other — a missile dropkick, big boot, and a snap German suppler to Malakai Black. Rhodes accidentally superkicks PAC, taking him out. The match breaks down again as Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson face off once again in the ring. Off the distraction, Malakai shoots the mist into PAC’s face and Rhodes gets a big boot to the face. Andrade hits PAC with a hammerlock DDT and picks up the win.

‘Batwoman’ Recap: Season 3, Episode 7 “Pick Your Poison”

This week on Batwoman, Ryan, Luke, and Sophie try to track down Alice and Mary. Meanwhile, Jeturian Industries works on a cure, and Marquis becomes, uh… even more unhinged. Read on to find out what happens in the mid-season finale “Pick Your Poison.”

Cold as Ice

batwoman season 3 episode 7
Kailey Schwerman/The CW

The episode kicks off as Ryan and Marquis meet to discuss their family business plan. Soon, a bunch of SUVs arrive. People get out and converge on the siblings, with Ryan restraining Marquis. Jada appears and Marquis realizes he’s been duped. Someone sedates him and they whisk him away. Then, Jada asks what Ryan’s favor is.

Back at Jeturian, the cryostasis process Marquis is about to begin, and we learn Jada’s team is synthesizing a cure for Mary. As the freezing process begins, Jada stands in the room with Marquis. He’s pleading with Jada, wanting to know why she’s doing this. Before it’s too late, Jada bends down to kiss him on the forehead. Marquis uses the moment to break out of his restraints and strangle Jada with tubing, threatening to kill her. Soon enough, he escapes.

Later, Ryan and Sophie find Jada. She tells them what happened, and that Marquis is looking for Ryan. Sophie and Jada go grab the cure. Instead, they find one doctor dead in the freezer.

Seeking a Friend for the End of Her Villain Era

batwoman season 3 episode 7
Kailey Schwerman/The CW

Sophie wakes up in Renee’s bed (sans Renee) and sees a message from Luke. She heads to Wayne, and it turns out he told her that Mary is Poison Ivy. Sophie asks if there’s a cure. Cue Ryan, who tells them Jada’s team is working on one. In the meantime, they head down to the bat cave, and Ryan fills them in on Marquis. They still don’t know where Mary is, either. But not too long after, they get a ping on Alice, who’s outside of her radius. They wonder if Mary and Alice are together.

Batwoman and Sophie go after Mary and Alice. Unfortunately, Luke keeps getting more and more hits. He’s not sure which one is right. So, Batwoman stops one of them. She and Sophie question the driver, then ask him to open the trunk. It’s empty. But when they close it, they. see a message from Alice scribbled in her blood. She’s spreading the nanobots around. Luke says they’re only viable option currently is to wait for the blood to dry and the nanobots to stop working. Sophie then tells Batwoman about an order the mayor gave regarding Poison Ivy. She then reveals why she wasn’t home when Alice left. Batwoman is upset, but she has to move past it quickly. The cure is ready.

Hot on the Trail

batwoman season 3 episode 7
Colin Bentley/The CW

Marquis goes to Wayne. He finds Luke, who triggers a silent alarm. Marquis goads him, taking a pen off the desk that Luke’s dad gave him. A security guard arrives, and Marquis stabs and kills him. He and Luke begin to fight, but Marquis gains the upper hand.

Soon, Ryan arrives. She tries to connect with Marquis, who mocks her. He tells her the sibling bonding was simply a ruse. Oh, and he has the cure with him. If Ryan wants it, she needs to sign away Wayne Enterprises. She does, and Marquis gives (well, tosses) the cure to her.

Batwoman drives around, but she’s not sure where to go. Sophie patches Luke up at the clinic (that’s absolutely overrun by plants). Luke tells Batwoman he doesn’t have much of a lead. However, there are only four nanobot trackers left. Sophie finishes up, and Luke admits how he didn’t listen to Mary. Sophie reciprocates by telling him about spending the night at Renee’s. She mentions Renee living above a GC Jitters. This prompts a lightbulb moment for Luke. He remembers Mary’s love of caffeine. He manages to track her Jitters rewards card. This in turn leads him to the pub.

A Bloody Good Time

Alice and Mary continue their road trip, but now they’re in an RV. Mary wakes up confused, and Alice fills her in. Mary worries about being a fugitive, but Alice says she’ll protect Mary. Of course, this isn’t out of the goodness of her heart. She wants Mary to give her a blood transfusion to get rid of the nanobots. Eventually, Mary has everything she needs for the transfusion. Well, everything except the blood.

So, the two head to a nearby pub. They attempt to pick up guys, but they’re a bit creepy about it. The bartender says as much, and she asks Mary and Alice to leave. However, Poison Ivy pops out, and she telepathically compels the bartender to let them stay… and get free shots on the house. And Mary doesn’t even feel bad about it. She continues testing out her new powers and manages to find a guy whose blood she can test. He’s not a match. Alice brings over someone else, who is a match. Before they get started on the transfusion, Mary admits she was ready to be done with Alice, but now she doesn’t want to be. Alice gets it; Mary doesn’t want to be lonely. She promises to stay with Mary.

Just as they finish the transfusion, a cop bangs on the door of the RV. Alice “solves” the situation by hopping behind the wheel and running the guy down. Mary gets out to check on him, saying he needs a hospital. Alice, though, convinces her to leave him. They don’t make it far before running into Batwoman. She shows Mary the cure, saying she just wants to help. Alice reminds Mary how she was treated. Mary uses her mind control to find out what Batwoman would do if the cure doesn’t work (confine her). In response, Mary summons roots from the ground to bind Batwoman. They cause her to break the vial, and Mary and Alice leave.

Gotham Is Under New Management

batwoman season 3 episode 7
Colin Bentley/The CW

Ryan heads to the clinic and tells Sophie what happened. Sophie thinks they can try again. However, Ryan tells her she thinks that Mary gave up on them. They fill in Luke, who’s watching a news broadcast. Ryan tells them she couldn’t get into the bat cave. Luke reveals their clearances to Wayne have been revoked. They’re shut out. Now, all they have is the bat suit and the batmobile. Ryan apologizes, but Luke understands. She did it for Mary.

Meanwhile, along with the trio, Jada is also watching the broadcast. In it, Marquis looks mighty comfortable at Wayne. He introduces himself as the new CEO of Wayne Enterprises. He ushers in a new era and makes his (very familiar sounding) motive clear:

“My main mission is to put a smile on everyone’s face.”

Marquis

In their motel room, Alice also has the news on, though she’s rather hungover and not paying it much mind. Mary is in the bathroom, and she’s taking quite a while. After a few moments, she walks out. This isn’t the Mary we’ve known for two and a half seasons. She’s Poison Ivy now. She turns toward the broadcast and Marquis catches her eye. The new Poison Ivy is ready for some fun.

Batwoman returns on Wednesday, January 12 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on The CW. Catch up on season 3 on The CW app and cwtv.com. Seasons 1 and 2 are available on HBO Max. Find our previous recaps and the rest of our coverage here.

Both Leighton and Whitney received “Mykonos blue” invites to the Kappa house for brunch. While Whitney ops for taking dressing casual literally, Leighton has done her research on the sorority. Everyone knows the Kappa girls version of casual is more like “In my Sunday best on my way to Church” casual. Leighton struggles to get along with the girls as her extensive knowledge is a little bit off-putting. Meanwhile, they’ve all taken a liking to Whitney.

Catullan is hosting an alumni dinner that Bela drags Kimberly to. Bela knows a fellow alumnus and one of the greatest comedic minds will be in attendance and she wants to chat with him. Bela introduces herself to Danny, calling herself a “Catullan hopeful.” Danny says he’s jealous, he’s admiring pictures of himself without a receding hairline. She jokes about her arm hair creating an Elvis wig and he compliments her and wishes her luck.

During Danny’s speech, he calls out Bela as the future of the business, following it up with a sexist joke about how she’ll be the only ethnic woman to sell a television show about balancing her love life and career. Bela stands up for herself and all the other women in the room by calling him out. Danny gets upset and barges out. The Catullan can forget about his donation check.

Bela didn’t just stand up for all the women. A fellow member thanks her for calling Danny out; he made jokes about him being gay for years. He pledges to match half of Danny’s donation.

‘Riverdale’ Recap: Season 6, Episode 2 “Chapter Ninety-Seven: Ghost Stories”

This week’s episode of Riverdale is about to get spooky! Following Archie’s “generous” sacrifice, the Town of Rivervale is trying to get back to normal. However, when the ghost La Llorona makes her way to the town and starts terrorizing children, the gang tries to come up with a way to stop her. And one resident makes the ultimate sacrifice. Meanwhile, an old story could put Jughead and Tabitha’s relationship in jeopardy.

Keep reading to find out what happened in part 2 of the “Rivervale” event, “Chapter Ninety-Seven: Ghost Stories.”

“Gather around, kiddies. It’s time for a ghost story.”

West Side Story

This first story begins in a way that sounds very similar to beloved musical West Side Story and involves Rivervale’s two rival gangs, the Serpents and the Ghoulies. Serpent Princess Sandra fell in love with Ghoulie Prince Daniel. It’s an all out turf war between the two gangs and it comes to a head when Toni tries throwing a knife at a Ghoulie, Darla, and accidentally hits her son, Danny, killing him.

Three months have passed and Toni is still haunted by that night. Her therapist wonders if she’s ever thought about reaching out to Darla to apologize. She’s a mother who lost her son, Toni says. There’s nothing she can say to comfort her. Toni doesn’t know how she would live if something bad were to happen to Baby Anthony. (I get that Anthony is a baby, but I’m starting to be convinced that that is his first name because they only say Baby Anthony.)

A Tale of Two Couples

Shane Harvey/The CW

This next story involves Jughead and Tabitha. While Tabitha is working her butt off at Pop’s, Jughead is chilling at home, saying he’ll put up pictures when he doesn’t and slowly working up the courage to continue writing.

Tabitha comes home from Pop’s and seeing that none of the art was put up, decides to do it herself. She hammers a hole in the wall on accident and there’s a draft coming through. She and Jughead get through and find a secret room filled with Scotch bottles with boats in them. Jughead thinks the room could be a great little writing nook for himself.

Tabitha meets with the real estate agent, Miss Gordon, who admits she disclosed to Jughead about a couple who previously lived there, Sam and Diane. They were a young couple who died in the apartment. Murder suicide. She killed him, then herself.

She comes clean to Jughead about Sam and Diane and Jughead admits he didn’t want to say anything because she fell in love with the place. And he thought he could write about them. Sam was a painter obsessed with his work and Diane bludgeoned him to death with a hammer, then hung herself. Tabitha is more upset that he chose to hide something from her rather than a story from 50 years ago. Jughead confesses he’s feeling inspired and he’s close to writing again.

Restless Nights

At night, Tabitha wakes up to Jughead furiously typing away at his typewriter and he is entranced. She tries to get his attention but he doesn’t listen. Tabitha picks up a hammer and when she hits Jughead with it, she wakes up, Jughead beside her on the bed.

Pop Tate tells Tabitha his own ghost story of the ghost of a waitress who haunted the diner years ago. She died in a deep fryer accident. Strange things started happening when they opened. They got rid of it by being loud.

Jughead is fixated on ships and Scotch battles, rather than writing. Tabitha is worried that he’s drinking again but Jughead assures her he isn’t.

In the morning, Tabitha finds a hammer in the refrigerator and finds Jughead in his writing nook. He tells her he’s been writing all night and the words have just been flying out.

The Climax

Jughead comes home with more Scotch bottles only to find Tabitha with his vomit draft that she got from his desk. Tabitha isn’t too happy with the story but Jughead tells her it’s not about them. It’s about the people who lived there before them, Sam and Diane. She kills him because he’s too obsessed with his work.

“I’ll tell you why she kills him. She kills him because she gets sick of supporting him while he displays a complete disregard for her feelings. Maybe that’s why she brains him with a hammer.”

Tabitha also notices the Scotch bottles despite Jughead telling her he’s not drinking. He tells her that it’s for the boats; he’s going to dump them out. She’s not so happy that he bought a bunch of Scotch with money she earned so he could just pour it down the drain for his “stupid boats.” This sets Tabitha off. She starts breaking all of the bottles, and she grabs Jughead’s typewriter and throws it down. Tabitha takes the hammer and sees Diane in the mirror, realizing what she’s doing. She drops the hammer and kneels down by Jughead. They made a promise they’d work through their problems. She loves him, and she’s been wanting to say it for a while. Jughead says it back.

A wind blows and closes the door. Sam and Diane have left, because Tabitha and Jughead scared them away. Later, the two board up the nook after getting through their first real fight. They survived and lived to tell the tale. What’s their next test going to be?

“Maybe love is just a series of tests, test the strength of our relationship.”

La Llorona

The folklore of La Llorona, who wanders the waters mourning her children, has come to Rivervale. And it starts when Dagwood runs up to Auntie Cheryl, telling her that “Mommy is trying to take Juniper.” She’s in the bathroom, splashing, and she won’t open the door. Cheryl tries to get Juniper to open the door, who is being held down in the tub by La Llorona, and when she hears her struggling and water flooding the floors, she uses her key and opens it. She successfully gets to Juniper just in time.

Cheryl finds Betty at school and tells her she needs Alice to take the twins for a couple of days. Why?

“Because some evil water nymph out of an M. Night Shyamalan movie is stalking the halls of Thornhill and threatening them.”

Betty meets with Toni about an incident of domestic violence. A mother drowned her daughter in a bathtub. Lucinda Villa, a Serpent, who also happens to be the mother of Sandra. Dr. Curdle said there were bruises on her shoulder, like someone held her under. The FBI wants her to charge her mother with murder. Toni knows Lucinda, and she’d never hurt her daughter. Betty’s hoping she would talk to her.

Toni meets with Lucinda, who admits it was La Llorona. A spirit of vengeance who preys on young children. She drowns them. Toni believes Lucinda, and later warns Betty that something bad is happening in Rivervale, and they need to stop it before it goes after all their children.

A Grimacing Truth

That night, La Llorona comes into Betty’s room while she’s sleeping and places her hand on her stomach. When Betty awakens, La Llorona is gone and there’s a handprint on Betty’s pajama top.

Toni tries confronting La Llorona in school and she turns on the fire alarm but she disappears. Betty, meanwhile, meets with Dr. Curdle and he tells her she is no longer pregnant. It’s possible it was a hysterical pregnancy. Betty later calls Toni and tells her she believes her. She thinks La Llorona is in Rivervale. She’s going to try and help Lucinda.

A social worker, Janet, shows up at Toni’s place to do a wellness check after receiving an anonymous complaint. Baby Anthony is chilling in his crib when La Llorona comes in and gets closer to him. Toni and Janet hear him crying and find him on the ground.

The Contact

Shane Harvey/The CW

Betty meets up with Toni and Fangs, bringing with her a map of Rivervale. She’s figured out a pattern with La Llorona as she’s been retracing her steps. She’s following a direct line from Sweetwater River. Toni’s sure her target was and is Baby Anthony. She picks him up and gives him to Fangs, asking him to take him to the Whyte Wyrm where he’s surrounded by the Serpents. Meanwhile she will be at Cheryl’s so she can contact that “ghost bitch.”

Cheryl, Betty, Toni, and Nana Rose sit around a table, calling out to the spirit. La Llorona takes over Nana Rose. Her real name is Martha and she was a nurse in the children’s ward of Rivervale’s first hospital. Many children died from various reasons and the townsfolk blamed her for the loss of their children, accused her of being a witch woman. And they dragged her and her own children to the Sweetwater River, weighed them down with rocks, and threw them in the dark waters. They drowned and she became this cursed thing that she is. But who summoned her? Darla Dickenson, who did so from her son’s grave.

Toni and Betty find Darla at Danny’s grave and Toni apologizes for everything. Betty confronts Darla about La Llorona and Darla tells her one cannot call off La Llorona.

“Once summoned, once a child is promised, there’s no stopping her.”

At least, not until Baby Anthony’s dead in her arms. Toni realizes that La Llorona has her son. She and Betty rush to the Whyte Wyrm to find all the Serpents unconscious and Fangs seriously injured. They’re at Sweetwater River.

A Desperate Mother

Shane Harvey/The CW

Toni and Betty get to Sweetwater River and find Martha with Baby Anthony. She tells them that no one is innocent. She was, Toni says. Her children were. Toni begs for Baby Anthony and figures she could end her suffering. She could take her place. Toni would give up anything for her son, her life. But also because she killed another woman’s child and she should be punished for that. It should be her, not Baby Anthony.

Martha gives Baby Anthony to Toni, and Toni gives him to Betty. Martha goes through Toni and she officially becomes La Llorona. She tells Betty to protect him and to tell him that his mother loved him. She walks off into Sweetwater River.

What Else Happened?

There were just too many stories to be told so here’s what else happened in this week’s Riverdale!

  • After sacrificing her baby daddy, Betty is doing surprisingly well. She already has names picked out for her unborn child. If it’s a boy, Archie, and if it’s a girl, Polly. And that did not last long…
  • Tabitha almost kills Jughead over a toothpaste cap.
  • Veronica is jealous of Reggie’s car.
  • Tabitha drinks out of a milk carton that has a missing ad on it of Archie.
  • It’s found out Reggie named his car after a teacher he was seeing when he was a student.

That officially makes it two Rivervale residents that have either sacrificed their lives or been sacrificed. Just what else will happen following these ghostly tales? Riverdale airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on The CW! Check out photos from next week’s episode here.

‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Recap: Season 1, Episode 3 “Le Tuteur”

In this episode of The Sex Lives of College Girls, Bela decides to put herself out there while Kimberly begins tutoring with Nico. Meanwhile, Leighton faces the music, and Whitney rekindles her flame with Dalton. Read on to find out what happens in “Le Tuteur.”

Drunk and Disorderly Consequences

sex lives of college girls episode 3
HBO Max

Leighton meets with President Lacey to discuss her punishment for her drunken incident. She tries to bribe him to no avail. Instead, he assigns her 100 hours of community service at the women’s center. Leighton reports there later, and the group introduces themselves. Alicia oversees all the volunteers and talks with Leighton some more. Leighton tries to tell her how it will go, but Alicia won’t have it. So, Leighton’s first assignment is the poetry night. Leighton tries one more time to bribe President Lacey. (Spoiler alert, it doesn’t work.)

At the poetry night, Leighton barely contains her laughter with each act. And she indulges in wine. One person begins performing a song, and Leighton has to leave. Alicia follows her outside and reprimands Leighton. She tells Leighton her hours won’t count. When they clean up, they seem to make some amends. Alicia knows people can be intolerable, but Leighton at least needs to mock them in private. She promises to try.

Eyes on the (Hot) Prizes

In the dorm, Bela scrolls through Tinder, swiping left on practically everyone. Whitney assesses her profile. She sees that Bela starts every message with requests for shirtless pics, leading to a discussion about abs. Leighton comes in and laments her community service. Then, she notices a putrid smell. They think it’s Bela’s fault. She claims it’s not.

A bit late, Kimberly and Bela walk together. They’re both excited about Kim’s upcoming tutoring session with Nico. Meanwhile, the head soccer coach tells the team they have a chance to make the tournament. Thanks to Whitney, of course. As she does, Dalton and Whitney exchange looks. Moments later, they’re hooking up in a closet. But Michelle, Dalton’s wife, calls. He barely covers himself (in more ways than one). Michelle says she’s waiting for him outside. Before he leaves, he tells Whitney he loves her. In the library, Bela introduces herself to a boy whose abs caught her eye.

Frude goes by their room. Someone complained about the fridge. Whitney is ready to toss it, but Kim proposes they clean it together. They can’t, though. Leighton has her poetry night, and Bela is planning to hook up with abs boy.

All About the Abs

sex lives of college girls episode 3
HBO Max

Bela sits in the dining hall with abs boy, who laughs at literally everything she says. When he gets up, Bela excitedly consults with Jocelyn. Soon, Bela is with abs boy in her room. But before they do the horizontal mambo, she admires his abs. While they’re doing it, Bela realizes something.

After, she tells Whitney and Kim abs boy only slept with her because he thinks she’s funny. They don’t see the problem, though. Still, they try to comfort her. By the end of their talk, they think Bela’s learned a valuable lesson. Bela agrees; all she needs to do is find a guy and fake a different personality. (Oh, so close yet so far.)

Parlez-Vous Français?

sex lives of college girls episode 3
HBO Max

Kim and Nico begin tutoring at Sips, and Kim is crushing hard. Nico tells her how he learned French (The Golden Girls, but in French). Kim relates with her own story (and a touch of an overshare. Lila texts her about Nico while moving a straw through a bagel hole. (Don’t worry. Nico can’t see her.) Nico pulls out a sheet he asks Kim to sign; he gets credit for tutoring her. She tries not to feel too bummed about it.

Later during her shift, Kim and Lila talk about Nico. He walks in, and Lila compliments his face before leaving the two alone. Nico invites Kim to watch The Golden Girls in French with him. So, she heads to his frat house that evening, armed with an on-theme sweater and a cheesecake. When she arrives, Nico’s not there. She calls him. He forgot but takes a rain check.

Back in the dorm, Kim cleans out the fridge with French GG for company until Bela returns. Kim asks about abs boy. Bela says she broke it off, but his abs were enticing, and they had sex again. Bela then asks about the smell. It was everything. The fridge was unplugged. Bela forgot she did that when she used Travis’ spray tan machine.

Break Up with Your Girlfriend Wife

Whitney and Dalton race each other, and after, Whitney asks about the credenza. Dalton pulls out his phone to show her. She notices how he has her name saved in his phone. Then she sees how he nicknamed Michelle. Whitney is upset she doesn’t have a cute nickname. She’s tired of sneaking around and wants to be able to go on a real date with him.

And so, Dalton obliges. He invites Whitney on a surprise date. He brings her to the woods, where he set up a small projector for a movie night. After the movie, his phone goes off. It’s Michelle. Dalton texts her back and shows Whitney the message; he wants to have a serious talk with Michelle. When he returns home, Michelle brings up the text. Rather than have that talk, he claims it was meant for someone else. Meanwhile, Whitney is walking on air. She thinks her relationship with Dalton will finally get to the next level.

The first five episodes of The Sex Lives of College Girls are streaming now on HBO Max. Episodes 6-8 release next Thursday, December 2. Keep up with our recaps and other coverage here.

0

The Ninth Doctor is back for three new adventures out now.

After two volumes released respectively in May and August 2021, the Ninth Doctor is back in Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor Adventures – Lost Warriors.

In these brand-new stories, the Doctor will travel from Scotland at the time of Lady Macbeth to Berlin in 1927 and the filming of a sci-fi movie.

Christopher Eccleston is back as the Ninth Doctor. He is joined on Lost Warriors by Annette Badland (Mrs. Goose), Peter Bankolé (Dieter Jovanovic), Nicholas Briggs (Cyberman), Helen Goldwyn (Anna Dreyfus), Neve McIntosh (Gruach), and Nick Wilton (Fritz Lang).

The box set is directed by Barnaby Edwards and produced by David Richardson. The synopsis of the three stories is available below:

3.1 “The Hunting Season” by James Kettle

Duberry Hall is under siege, as aliens maraud through the estate. It’s a frightful business, and as Lord Hawthorn battles the Fleshkin, the Doctor finds new friends below stairs. Can he convince the household to unite to save itself?

3.2 “The Curse of Lady Macbeth” by Lizzie Hopley

The TARDIS is drawn to Scotland again – to the troubled Kingdom of Moray, and its Queen Gruach. Or, as the Doctor knows her better, Lady Macbeth. While some believe she is the cause of her people’s woes, she may yet become their saviour.

3.3 “Monsters in Metropolis” by John Dorney

Berlin, 1927. The making of a science fiction legend. But death stalks the film set and history is not what the Doctor expects it to be. And this new ‘Machine Man’ is a more terrifying vision of humanity’s future than Fritz Lang had in mind…

Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor Adventures – Lost Warriors is available to purchase on Big Finish’s website as a download, a CD box set, or a limited vinyl edition. Listeners can also save money by buying all the Ninth Doctor adventures in a bundle.
