‘The Expanse’: Get Ready for Season 6 With a Season 5 Recap!

0

The last season of The Expanse premieres on Prime Video in just a few short days. As a refresher before season 6, we’ve compiled the most important storylines and moments from season 5 which premiered last December.

In season 5, humans are making the trek beyond the Ring network in search of a better life. Meanwhile, the Protomolecule is still putting a major wrench into the lives of those in space. Plus, additional threats emerge.

Naomi Tracks Down Her Estranged Son

The Expanse Season 5
Amazon Studios

The end of season 4 revealed Naomi has an estranged son with none other than Marco Inaros. At the beginning of season 5, she leaves Ceres, alone (much to the dismay of Holden), to track him down before he gets hurt because of his father’s actions. She enlists help to get in contact with Filip (Jasai Chase Owens). When she does, he wants nothing to do with her because of her abandoning him as a child. Naomi attempts to give him a ship she’d purchased for him as well as any money he needed to get away from Marco, causing a heated argument between them.

Filip kidnaps his mother to take her to Marco. Naomi is less than ecstatic upon seeing him and once she finds out what he has done “for the good of the belt” she becomes nauseated. Not only had he killed millions of people, but Filip also helped him, putting just as much blood on their son’s hands as his own.

Once Filip realizes Naomi is trying to turn him on Marco, Marco catches wind of it and Filip picks his side by slapping his mother in the face. Naomi realizes her only means of escape is to hitch a ride on her ship, needing to go into orbit to do it. She climbs aboard and readjusts the distress call that Marco is using to lure the Roci into his trap.

Marco Inaros Ignites a War

The Expanse Season 5
Amazon Studios

Like most of the Belters, Marco (Keon Alexander) has a great disdain for the Inner Planets. The treatment of the Belt fuels his hatred and attacks that he believes are “heroic” wanting to lead humanity into the future. Marco devises an elaborate plan to conspire with Martian rebels to obtain stealth tech he can use to launch weapons at Earth without them having a clue.

The asteroids he launched hit their intended targets, and Marco announces that he’s the person behind the attacks. Not all the launches were successful, however, enough of them landed to kill millions of people and wipe out Earth’s infrastructure.

Drummer’s New Crew

The Expanse Season 5
Amazon Studios

Drummer is mourning the loss of Klaes Ashford whom she had grown incredibly close to. This season, Drummer finds herself attached to the crews on the Dewalt and Mowteng Belter ships. The exploration of polyamory isn’t a new concept in The Expanse. Holden is the son of three mothers and five fathers who all contributed to his genetic makeup. It makes complete sense that a fleet that is confined to their ships would have an unexplainable and unbreakable bond. Although a side plot to the overall story, it builds onto Drummer’s character.

She was first introduced as stoic and tough, with trouble opening up. All the people who helped her unleash that sense of vulnerability are gone, so she’s retreating to her old ways. Oksana (Sandrine Holt) is the first to step up and stand side by side as she slowly breaks down those barriers, reminding her she has an incredible support system by her side.

Marco doesn’t give her much of a choice on aligning with the Free Navy. But it doesn’t mean she’s forgotten the bloodshed and hurt he’s inflicted on her. This causes a rift; Drummer knows Oksana is keeping secrets from her. Oksana confides Naomi may be alive, but they can’t turn on Marco now or they’ll all die next. By the end of the season, Oksana feels betrayed by Drummer who inadvertently got one of their own killed. She takes the Dewalt and they go their separate ways.

Amos’ Past

The Expanse
Amazon Studios

Everyone on the Roci split off to handle their own life problems. Amos returns to Baltimore upon hearing about his foster mom Lydia’s death. He finds out she had someone that really cared for her and sets his sights on Erich to convince him to leave the guy alone. A tense meeting at first, Amos’ real name (Timothy) comes to light, and it’s revealed that he killed the real Amos Burton and stole his identity to leave the planet.

On Amos’ trip to Earth, he visits “Peaches” otherwise known as Clarissa Mao. Another Asteroid has hit and the prison has essentially collapsed. Amos helps the both of them escape and the pair voyage back to Baltimore to get Erich’s help. They plan on making the trip to Luna to safety.

Holden’s Fixation on the Protomolecule

The Expanse Season 5
Amazon Studios

To understand why Holden is hyper-focused on the Protomolecule, we must reference the events of season 4. Miller, in part, became the Protomolecule when he died. Holden has visions of “The Investigator,” a mental image of the Protomolecule that holds all of Miller’s memories and features. It targeted Holden to help uncover what happened to its creators.

In season 5, Holden works with Fred Johnson, aiming to convince him to destroy the Protomolecule sample he has. Sakai makes her allegiance to Marco Inaros known by shooting Johnson multiple times. Holden instructs the others to take him to gravity to treat his wounds.

Before he leaves, he tells Holden, “it’s in my quarters.” Only then does Holden realize what they are after. A bot escapes with the sample of the Protomolecule to the Zmeya. Later, Holden visits med bay only to discover Johnson tragically succumbed to his injuries. With the help of Johnson’s crew, Holden destroys the sample and the ship (or so he thinks anyway).

Chrisjen’s New Role

THE EXPANSE
Amazon Studios

Chrisjen may have lost her Secretary-General position but she still has some unfinished business to attend to, as Draper and her team up to shake down the system and expose the operation they’re really running.

Questioning the Hasami findings, Chrisjen enlists the help of Admiral Delgado to gain access to the Watchtower satellites that can trace stealth tech. On Luna, she desperately tries to reach out to anyone who will listen to her findings linking Marco to the asteroid collisions on Earth. Once she reaches Nancy to tell her this, UN One goes down as she falls witness to the horrific tragedy.

As David Paster (the former Transportation Secretary) steps in to fill the Sec. General position, he asks Chrisjen to join his provisional cabinet. Soon after, Chrisjen resigns from her position only to be appointed acting Secretary-General once again.

The Laconia System

Amazon Studios

In the final moments of the season, yet another piece to Marco’s puzzle is revealed. In exchange for the Mars warships, he traded a sample of the Protomolecule. With the Martians building anew inside the Ring, they’d no longer need their ships.

However, it seems the Ring’s Unknown Aggressors still aren’t fond of the Protomolecule. As Barkeith traverses through the gates, Admiral Sauveterre and Lt. Babbage mysteriously poof out of existence without a trace. Just before this happens, the ship receives a transmission from Paolo Cortázar, the Protomolecule researcher, on Laconia. Cortázar tells them he’s received the sample which will move construction into the next phase. Much like Ilus, Laconia too has ancient technology that they’re desperate to activate.

Season 6 of The Expanse premieres on December 10 on Prime Video. Running for six episodes, they will release weekly onto the platform. Stay tuned for our spoiler-free season 6 review, weekly recaps, and other related content.

Danielson counters Angels with a Butterfly Suplex into the Juji Gatame. Angels creates separation with a dropkick to Danielson and a Tope Suicida through the middle ropes to the outside. Angels then follows it up with a Spanish Fly. He goes for a moonsault press but Danielson moves out of the way. With a Busaiku Knee to Angels, Danielson toys with him by kicking him in the head multiple times. Angels finally taps when the Kneebar is applied. Danielson keeps the hold on after the match is over and stares down Hangman Page.

CM Punk versus Lee Moriarty

Punk takes Lee down to the mat as they grapple in the ring. Lee hits him with the crucifix, but Punk taps out. Punk takes control over the match as Lee shows his fighting spirit, kicking out of multiple moves. With elbows to Punk’s head, Lee gets to his feet and hits a crossbody. Lee lands a series of strikes to Punk, going for a suplex. Punk reverses it and lands a crossbody of his own. Lee transitions the cover into a cross face. Punk is fading quickly as Lee tries to keep Punk’s legs away from the rope. The two exchange quick roll-ups, both getting near falls. Amid Lee’s control, in full shades of Punk, he puts the Pepsi Twist on him. Lee hits a running boot to Punk as a last-ditch effort. However, Punk makes him go to sleep.

It’s Adam Cole, Bay Bay

Cole is set for commentary, but first makes his presence known by doing his complete entrance to the ring. Once inside, he bows and does his signature coined “Adam Cole, Bay Bay!” before heading to the commentary desk. Orange Cassidy makes his way out, and he finally gets to do his pocket spot to hit his damaging kicks to Cole’s shins. The Bucks sneak out and give OC a taste of his own medicine with kicks of their own before Cole gets a cheap shot in so the Bucks can Superkick OC.

Wardlow versus AC Adams

Wardlow clotheslines Adams and drops him with multiple power bombs to pick up a quick win. Post-match, Shawn spears uses his crutch to beat down on Adams while Wardlow watches on.

Penta and PAC Promo

Penta says he would have loved to beat FTR twice in one night, but with Rey’s injury, he’s got the best ally in PAC to help fight.

Sting and Darby Allin versus The Gunn Club

Darby and Colten start in the ring. Colten blocks Darby’s arm drag but Darby is quick to follow up with another. Colten tags in Billy, who stares down Sting. Darby tags him in as they exchange blows in the middle of the ring. Sting lands a Manhattan Drop on Billy Gunn. Sting attempts the Stinger Splash, and Billy reverses out of it. Billy wisely rolls out of the ring only to send Colten in.

Darby’s back in the ring attempting a Coffin Splash which Billy blocks off the blind tag. Billy isolates Darby in the corner as Colten whips him into the turnbuckle. Darby fights out of Colten’s hold, desperately needing to tag Sting. Colten stays on him though as he and Billy exchange tagging in and out. Darby gets in a quick sunset flip, able to tag in Sting who makes quick work of taking down both Colten and Billy. With a Spine Buster into the Scorpion Death Lock on Colten, Billy attempts to help his son, to no avail. Austin takes out Sting, and Darby makes sure it doesn’t happen again. Billy hits a Famouser on Sting. Colten covers for a two count. Sting hits the Scorpion Death Lock again on Colten to pick up the win.

Jericho 2Point … Oh, No

In a backstage segment, Jericho clarifies he was there to take out 2Point0 last week, not to help Eddie. Just then, 2Point0 and Daniel Garcia run up on Jericho and beat him down with a steel chair, taking him out of action for Rampage.

Lio Rush Stands Up to Team Taz

Rush calls out Taz, says he’s a commentator. He should know all about Rush and how the odds have been stacked against Rush his entire life. Taz says Dante is part of team Taz; they stole him from Rush. Rush says everyone knows he’s a fighter, so he won’t be going down without a fight even if he was a one percent chance. Taz says he might as well retire as Ricky Starks and Dante laugh in Rush’s face.

Kris Statlander versus Ruby Soho in TBS Women’s Championship Quarterfinal

Statlander is quick to the punch, putting Ruby into a side headlock takedown. Ruby fights to her feet and attempts a backslide. Statlander blocks it, turning it into another side headlock. Ruby rolls up Statlander who rolls out. Kris does her signature “boop” gesture as Ruby shakes her head. After, Statlander attempts a quick roll-up.

Ruby goes for the monkey flip but Statlander counters with a handstand to get out of it. Kris and Ruby give it all they have, as Ruby lands a senton right on top of Kris. Ruby attempts a back suplex, but Kris fights out of it and hits a Blue Thunder Bomb, Ruby kicks out. She tries to transition out of the Spider Crab from Kris, but ends up planted in the center of the ring. Ruby gains momentum with a thrust kick and a Poison Rana. Ruby reverses the Big Bang Theory into a quick roll-up for the win, advancing to the semi-final round versus Nyla Rose.

Cody Rhodes versus Andrade El Idolo in a Street Fight

Andrade doesn’t even wait for Cody to make it to the ring or take off his jacket. They throw drinks at each other, making their way through the crowd. Cody moonsaults off the barricade onto Andrade. Andrade uses Jose’s laptop to smash onto Cody, doing the same with a steel chair. On the outside of the ring, the two exchange blows. Andrade drags Cody to the center of the ring once again using the chair as leverage to moonsault off the top rope. Cody gets his knees up to block the landing, creating an opening. Cody grabs a sledgehammer and kendo stick, tossing both to the side. He grabs the golden shovel, but Andrade Escalera and splashes to Cody on the outside.

Back in the ring, Andrade knees Cody in the face with the help of a steel chair. He grabs a table from under the ring, leaning it onto the corner of the ring. Andrade hip tosses Cody into the table, and he’s not done. He grabs another table as the two men fight for control and Cody finds himself on top. Cody fakes it out, attempting a suplex. Brandi appears with lighter fluid, lighting the table on fire. Cody superplexes Andrade into the fire, covering him, and picking up the win.

‘Riverdale’ Recap: Season 6, Episode 3 “Chapter Ninety-Eight: Mr. Cypher”

The devil has come to town in the newest episode of Riverdale and he is making deals with residents for their souls. Read on to find out everything that happened in the third part of the “Rivervale” event, “Chapter Ninety-Eight: Mr. Cypher.”

The Devil’s Holiday

Kailey Schwerman/The CW

What seems like a normal night at Pop’s turns into something much bigger, and tragic. Pop Tate is his usual self, helping customers who don’t have enough money at the moment for food and Tabitha admires her grandpa. He sees a man standing outside and for a moment, his face turns into something straight out of a horror movie. Pop Tate has a heart attack and collapses. Tabitha rushes to her grandfather’s side.

The same man shows up in Pop’s hospital room, where Tabitha is by her grandpa’s bedside. He introduces himself as Mr. Cypher, an old family friend. He tells Tabitha he’s there for her grandfather’s soul, showing her his true face. The Prince of Darkness. Tabitha tells Mr. Cypher that Pop Tate would never sell his soul and he tells her that while that is true, his father, Tabitha’s great-grandfather, was “less principled.” He sold his soul to ensure the success of the family diner. Pop offered his soul to save his father’s. And now Mr. Cypher wants the diner for Pop’s soul. That’s it.

Jughead’s Ultimatum

Jughead calls Mr. Cypher and meets with him. He tells him he’s been looking for something to inspire his writing and he figured an interview with the devil would do just that. Jughead, though, makes it very clear he’s not going to sell his soul. Mr. Cypher grants him an exclusive, if he agrees one on condition. They’ll do the interview, publish it, Jughead receives all the fame and notoriety they all yearn for. But he’ll never be able to write again. Or Mr. Cypher will give him this raw, mind-blowing tell-all, but everything he says remains between them. Jughead agrees, only on the condition he’ll be able to choose his option after they conclude the interview. Mr. Cypher agrees.

Following the interview, Jughead chooses option one, as he needs to have it published. Meaning he gets all the fame and glory, but will never be able to write another word.

The next day, Jughead gets a call from The Associated Press, and they tell him they’d love to pick up his article. The entire world needs to read what he wrote. His phone wouldn’t stop ringing after the AP picked up his story. He even got a call from his former agent.

Jughead calls back Mr. Cypher and tells him he doesn’t want any of it. He needs to be able to write again. Mr. Cypher understands, he could do that but it will cost him. Jughead obliges and signs away his soul.

A War is Raging

Just like her grandfather, Tabitha is an angel to the customers. And one person sitting at the counter takes notice. She asks the man if she knows him and he says he’s a great admirer of her grandfather and all his good deeds. He’s one of the good guys, from up there. Rafael, the angel. His boss likes what her and her family are doing and He wants to make sure they’re prepared for a battle that’s coming. And the diner will play an important role. Rafael gives Tabitha an angelic item of some sorts, a gift from Him.

Mr. Cypher shows up at Pop’s and Pop Tate and Tabitha sign the contract. Tabitha makes milkshakes for the three of them and after taking a sip, Mr. Cypher says the taste is a bit off. Tabitha admits that she added a secret ingredient. Tears that the Virgin Mary shed at the Crucifixion. Tabitha and Pop Tate are protected by their holy properties since they drank it as well and they kick out Mr. Cypher. Pop’s is now consecrated, protected from him and any other force of evil.

TBK is Back… Or Is He?

TBK, the Trash Bag Killer, has been haunting Betty for a while now. And it seems like things are finally going her way as Glen calls her to let her know that they got him. He’s being transported to Rivervale and Glen wants her and TBK in the same room together for a confession. Betty is the only one he’ll speak to.

Betty meets with TBK, who is still just taunting her. She tells him that her boss wants him to admit to all of the atrocious things in the files. TBK asks her what she wants.

“I just want to know… does evil, absolute evil… exist?”

TBK tells Betty to ask the real question and then he’ll admit to his sins. Betty, however, says she doesn’t have to play these mind games with him. No one cares that he’s there. He can just sit there in his filth and she’ll come back tomorrow. Betty starts to leave and TBK admits that absolute evil does exist. There’s a part of her that is absolutely 100% evil. It’s what draws them to each other.

Betty later takes a shower to try to wash the evil away. After getting out of the shower, she calls Glen and tells him she’s not getting any information out of TBK. He’s toying with her and she won’t be his plaything again. Glen doesn’t know what she’s talking about and when Betty tells him about TBK, he tells her that the Trash Bag Killer is not in their custody.

The Devil Behind the Mask

Betty meets with TBK again, who is definitely not TBK. He tells her he’s the devil and Betty wonders if Hell is a real place. TBK tells her it is and her dad is there. Betty asks to speak to her father and TBK is soon possessed by Hal Cooper. He pleads with his daughter to get him out of there and Betty asks him a question to prove to her that he is real. And real he is.

TBK tells Betty that he wants her loyalty as there is a war brewing. The one between good and evil. Betty is the Whore of Babylon from the Book of Revelation. He tells her that Polly is in Hell and even has Polly possess him to prove to Betty that he’s telling the truth. Polly is screaming, pleading with Betty to make it stop. Betty takes a pair of scissors and stabs TBK multiple times until he’s dead. She takes off the mask and the face of evil is Glen.

As if on cue, Mr. Cypher shows up. He called Glen using Betty’s voice and he couldn’t come any faster.

Kevin’s Dream Come True

Kailey Schwerman/The CW

Mr. Cypher shows up to the soft opening of Veronica and Reggie’s long-awaited Babylonium casino, and finds Kevin. He mentions he caught a performance of his in New York a few years back and that he should be on Broadway or Vegas. Kevin doesn’t even have an agent and Mr. Cypher suggests he could make that happen for him. Fame, money, being a star. He gives Kevin a taste and they shake on it. People can’t stop watching Kevin during his performance and Fangs later tells him his schedule, which includes a six-week run in a Broadway show opposite Hugh Jackman. Fangs is no longer Fangs, as he is now Finn, Kevin’s manager and boyfriend. Kevin finds Mr. Cypher and signs over his soul.

Soul for a Soul

Kailey Schwerman/The CW

After being told that Mr. Cypher has won the last 20 hands of Blackjack, Veronica walks up to the table to confront him. He tells her he’s an investor, Reggie’s investor. Veronica begins to shut his table down and Mr. Cypher obliges, noting that he has much work to do around town and he’ll be back to collect his dues on Saturday. A soul.

Veronica later confronts Reggie about Mr. Cypher and Reggie admits when they were looking for investors, he got an incoming call from him. He said he could provide them with the rest of the money they needed in exchange for a soul. Reggie’s soul, Saturday night at midnight.

“If anyone can outwit the devil, Ronnie, it’s you.”

Veronica calls Mr. Cypher with a counter proposal, an old friend of hers with a soul much more deserving of a damnation than Reggie’s. The old friend? None other than Nick St. Clair.

Kailey Schwerman/The CW

Nick St. Clair, all grown up, but still a sleaze ball who is surprisingly married and now a Senator. Veronica catches up with her ex, turning on the act to turn him on. Nick confesses to plenty of sins from hit-and-runs, harassment, tax frauds, affairs. Veronica asks if he deserves a place in Hell and if he would sell his soul for her. “Whatever it takes,” he says. Which is just enough of a verbal binding agreement for Mr. Cypher and he takes Nick St. Clair down to Hell.

The Real Prize

Mr. Cypher tells Veronica that while he will not touch a hair on Reggie’s head, she and him are still on for tomorrow. Reggie’s soul was never on the table. It was Veronica’s that was promised.

Veronica storms into the office to confront Reggie and he tells her that he offered his soul to Mr. Cypher and he didn’t want it. It was a “miserable, paltry thing.” Mr. Cypher asked for Veronica’s as it would be the real prize. Reggie slipped a contract in one of the stacks of weekly invoices for her to sign and gave her Mr. Cypher’s pen to use. He only agreed to it because he knew she’d figure a way out. Veronica demands Reggie to leave and Mr. Cypher shows up, willing to renegotiate. A soul in exchange for hers. Alice.

Just as Veronica is about to have Alice sign the contract by lying, she stops her.

“You’re a pain in the ass. But you don’t deserve to burn in Hell.”

Veronica managed to broker another deal with Mr. Cypher in exchange for her soul. He is now joining the casino and Veronica will be supplying him with one lost soul from the floor each week for the rest of her natural life. The first soul? Reggie’s.

“If Rivervale really is going to be the final battleground between good and evil… is anybody’s soul safe?”

That is yet another soul that Rivervale has claimed, but just who will be next? And what is this battle between good and evil? Kiernan Shipka is reprising her role of Sabrina Spellman in next week’s episode, so don’t miss it on Tuesday, December 7 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW!

Cobie Smulders Joins Cast of Marvel’s ‘Secret Invasion’

Agent Maria Hill is reporting for duty. Cobie Smulders has officially been added to the cast of the upcoming Marvel Disney+ series Secret Invasion.

This comes as no surprise to longtime Marvel fans, as Agent Maria Hill is usually not far behind Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. The pair, first seen in The Avengers, was last spotted in Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, Spider-Man: Far From Home revealed that the Maria and Fury on Earth were indeed Skrulls, with Fury on a galactic vacation within a Skrull spacecraft. Hill’s whereabouts after her appearance at Tony Stark’s memorial service in Avengers: Endgame are unknown.

Jackson will reprise his role as former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury with Ben Mendelsohn returning as the Skrull Talos introduced in Captain Marvel. Other cast members that have yet to be confirmed by Marvel themselves include Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, and Emilia Clarke.

Not much is known about the plot of Secret Invasion, but it will highlight longtime MCU veteran Nick Fury and Talos as they take on a faction of Skrulls that have been infiltrating the Earth for years.

The series will air exclusively on Disney+.
