‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Recap: Episode 3 “The Streets of Mos Espa”

In this week’s episode of The Book of Boba Fett, “The Streets of Mos Espa,” we learn of the tragedy that fell upon the Tusken Raider tribe that Boba Fett trained with. In the current day, Fett hires a gang of new employees and acquires a pet rancor. And although it seems that his problems with the Twins are over, he has an even more concerning issue to worry about now — the Mayor is working with the Pyke Syndicate.

Boba Fett hires some help

8D8 gathers Boba Fett and Fennec Shand for a briefing. As they look at a map of Mos Espa, the droid explains that there was a power vacuum after the sail barge disaster. Under the watchful eye of Jabba’s first successor, Bib Fortuna, the city was divided amongst three families — the Trandoshans claimed the city center, the Aqualish took the Worker’s district, and the Klatooinians have the starport and the upper sprawl. Due to a lack of power, Bib had to rely on uneasy alliances, and now everyone is waiting to see what kind of leader Boba Fett will prove himself to be.

A water-monger from the Worker’s District, Lortha Peel, arrives at the Palace with a petition. He informs Fett that nobody respects his leadership, and the streets have turned to chaos. He then pleads for his help, because a street gang has been stealing his inventory. If he helps him, he will double his tribute to him.

Later that evening, Fett finds the group. Young, confident, and equipped with deadly droid parts, they’re unimpressed by his arrival. They explain that Peel was trying to overcharge them for water, and even if they wanted to pay for it, there isn’t any work in town for them. Fett solves this problem easily by hiring them to work for him, which enrages Peel. No longer feeling pity for the man, Fett offers Peel 500 out of the 1,300 credits he claims the gang owes him, and he tells him that he can go do business in Mos Eisley if he doesn’t like it.

The tragedy of the Tusken Raiders

As Boba Fett sleeps, we see another flashback to his time spent living with the Tusken Raiders. He heads to Mos Eisley to collect payment from the Pyke Syndicate (and if you look closely, you’ll see a quick cameo of Peli Motto and her droids — from The Mandalorian — in the background). The Pyke representative informs Fett that after speaking with his superiors on Oba Diah, they have decided they are unwilling to pay protection for more than one party. Apparently, the Kintan Striders are already collecting protection money for the same territory. Fett reminds him that the sands belong to the Tuskens, and he assures him he will resolve this issue with the Nikto sand riders.

Fett returns to find that the Tusken village was destroyed while he was gone, and the tribe has been killed. He sees the mark of the Nikto sand riders.

Another assassination attempt

Fett is violently woken up by another assassination attempt, this time from the menacing looking Wookiee Black Krrsantan. Without his armor and weapons, he doesn’t stand a chance against the creature’s size and strength. However, his newly hired muscle arrives just in the nick of time, and Fennec ends up dropping Krrsantan through the trap door.

As Fett mulls over what to do in the aftermath, because he needs to send a message, the Twins arrive. They apologize for sending Krrsantan to kill him and give him a rancor as a gift. The Twins then inform him that they are going back to Nal Hutta, because the territory has been promised to another syndicate by Mok Shaiz, and they don’t want war. It’s bad for business. They warn Fett that he should leave as well. He tries to return Krrsantan, but they don’t want him back, so he sets him free. “Take it from an ex-bounty hunter, don’t work for scugholes. It’s not worth it.”

Fett gets a pet

The rancor’s keeper (who’s portrayed by Danny Trejo) brings the rancor inside of the palace. Fett inquires why it’s just lying there on the floor, and the keeper explains that it’s depressed. Fett is surprised to learn that apparently, they’re emotionally complex creatures, and they’re peaceful unless threatened. Once he realizes that the rancor isn’t dangerous, he immediately takes to the creature like a man with a new puppy, and he tells the keeper that he wants to learn how to ride it. The keeper takes off the rancor’s blinders so that it can get a look at its new owner, because the creature will imprint on the first human that it sees.

The Pykes return

Fett is annoyed when 8D8 interrupts his time fawning over the rancor to tell him that the Mayor’s schedule is supposedly booked for the next 20 days. Unphased, Fett and his crew head over to pay Mok Shaiz a surprise visit. His Majordomo is, as usual, nervous and avoidant upon their arrival, and after a threat from Fennec, heads into the Mayor’s quarters to “rearrange his schedule.” When they see that he locked the door behind him, Fennec breaks in, and they find that the room is empty and the Majordomo is gone. Fett’s gang chases him through the streets of Mos Espa, and when they finally catch him, he admits that the Mayor is working with the Pykes.

As the episode comes to a close, we see at least a dozen Pykes arrive on Tatooine on a starliner. They’re going to war.

The next episode of The Book of Boba Fett will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on Wednesday, January 19. Follow along with all of our weekly recaps here.

Sony’s Adaptation Of ‘Harold And The Purple Crayon’ Adds Lil Rel Howery to Cast

0

Sony Picture’s adaptation of the classic children’s book Harold and the Purple Crayon cast expands to include Lil Rel Howery.

According to Deadline, Howery is set to join Zachary Levi in the Carlos Saldanha directed live-action adaptation of Crockett Johnson’s belove novel.

Howery most recently starred in Free Guy opposite Ryan Reynolds, although you may also recognize him from roles in Bird Box, Jordan Peele’s Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah, and Bad Trip.

First published in 1955, Harold and the Purple Crayon tells the story of a 4-year-old named Harold who discovers that, with the power of just his crayon, he can create worlds of his own. If he can imagine it, he can create it. This concept was so successful that it spawned six more books featuring Harold and his crayon.

The film is set to premiere on January 27, 2023, and will be the first full length, live-action adaptation of the story.

Beyond Peter Parker: Andrew Garfield

0

Andrew Garfield is certainly no stranger to enchanting audiences onscreen, as his movie and television career now spans 15-years. Garfield is most recognized for wearing the famed Spider-Man suit in three separate films, most recently in Spider-Man: No Way Home, where he surprised audiences with his return. Garfield’s career, however, is full of emotionally moving performances and a strong screen and stage presence that have awarded him with an ever-growing list of award nominations and wins.

To celebrate the adoration Garfield has been receiving recently; we wanted to explore some of the brilliant performances he has given outside of Peter Parker.

tick, tick…BOOM!

Netflix

Garfield has received increasing attention in the last couple of months since tick, tick…BOOM! premiere on Netflix on November 12, 2021, due to his performance as the late Rent creator Jonathan Larson. Audiences and critics alike seem to agree that Garfield not only delivered an impressive performance in his first musical, but that he was able to embody Larson in such a beautiful and impactful way. Garfield delivered an emotionally moving performance consistent with his history in the industry, and clearly awards season is off to a great start in proving that.

As I mentioned, tick, tick…BOOM! marks Garfield’s first musical theatre performance, and in my opinion, proves the dedication that Garfield puts into his career and every single one of his projects. Although clear from his performance that Garfield possessed a previously undiscovered innate ability for musical theatre, Garfield worked extensively with famed vocal coach Liz Caplan and took piano lessons to prepare for the role. His sheer dedication to the role resulted in an amazing and moving performance which has already awarded him with his first Golden Globe Award.

Hacksaw Ridge

Summit Entertainment

Hacksaw Ridge is the true story of an American soldier from Virginia, Desmond Doss, during the Second World War who served during the Battle of Okinawa. Doss became the first soldier in American history to receive the Medal of Honor without firing a single shot for saving 75 men at the battle. Garfield stars as Doss in the movie directed by Mel Gibson, and every single moment he is on the screen is a true gift.

While watching this movie it is clear that Garfield gave everything he had to his role as Doss. Garfield consistently pays his respect to the real-life people he portrays, and his portrayal of Doss is no different than any of his other real-life roles. Garfield is charming and delightful as Doss straight away and wins audiences over as he navigates young adulthood, finds his beloved wife, and ultimately enlists in the Army. Doss’ resolve never wavered when it came to his religious and moral beliefs, and Garfield is able to show this on-screen beautifully. Garfield shows the struggle Doss faced both internally and from his peers throughout the film in a way that truly honors Desmond Doss and immortalizes the heroic actions taken on the ridge.

The Social Network

Columbia Pictures

The Social Network has maintained a strong and positive reputation since its initial release in 2010 and is commonly cited as one of the best films of the decade. The film is a biographical drama film about the founding of social media giant Facebook and the resulting lawsuits. The Social Network was adapted from Ben Mezrich’s 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires and stars Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake in addition to Garfield. The movie has been able to keep hold of audiences and its positive reputation due to incredible performances from the cast, a memorable and relevant screenplay, and its continued real-world implications.

Garfield’s performance during the famed “lawyer up” scene is one that is regularly brought up to this day in interviews and across the internet. In the climactic scene, Garfield’s character Eduardo Savarin visits the Facebook office in California, where he learns he’s being pushed out of the company he helped create. He immediately confronts Mark Zuckerberg (Eisenberg) and Sean Parker (Timberlake) in front of the rest of the company, resulting in a smashed laptop before delivering some of The Social Network‘s most memorable lines.

Mainstream

American Zoetrope

If you’ve ever wanted to see Garfield in the role of a douchey influencer, Mainstream is the movie for you. Mainstream follows the story of a struggling young filmmaker Frankie (Maya Hawke) in West Hollywood who finally achieves success after meeting the eccentric Link (Garfield) – a strange and outspoken man living off the grid. Link and Frankie end up in an odd love triangle with Frankie’s co-worker Jake (Nat Wolff) while the three try to navigate internet-stardom and preserve their identities during the fast-moving internet age.

Mainstream is definitely supposed to be a cautionary tale, warning audiences what can happen and what they will have to deal with should they decide to pursue viral fame. The movie seeks to open eyes to the cruelty of certain internet stars, and once Mainstream establishes that purpose it is immensely enjoyable and introspective. The satirical movie takes a while to get to that point, but once it’s there you will be left asking yourself many questions (some you probably don’t want to even ask) about the internet age we are currently experiencing.

Breathe

BBC Films

After contracting polio at the young age of 28, Robin Cavendish is confined to bed and given only months to live. However, with the help of his wife Diana and her twin brothers, and the unbelievable ideas of inventor Teddy Hall, Cavendish emerges from the hospital despite his paralysis and devotes his life to helping fellow patients and the disabled. In yet another real-life inspired story, Garfield stars as Robin Cavendish in Breathe, which marks the directorial debut for Andy Serkis.

Garfield’s performance, as expected, is emotional and at times eerily accurate in the ways he is able to portray a man with polio trying to master the art of living in the world with his new condition. The story is beautiful to watch as audiences watch Robin overcome adversity and refuse to give up even when the odds are not in his favor, yet the film manages to not be too emotionally heavy.

Silence

Paramount Pictures

Set in the 17th century, Silence follows two Portuguese priests on their journey to Japan to track down their mentor, who has allegedly committed apostasy and to propagate Catholicism. Silence is directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson, and is based on the 1966 novel of the same name by  Shūsaku Endō. In the time period, the film is set in, the Tokugawa shogunate has banned Catholicism and almost all foreign contact, so naturally, the priests are not welcome in the country. The film reflects on the state of an individual when they are crying out/praying for help only to be met with crumbling emptiness when no answers are given to them.

This film was a passion project for Scorsese and ultimately released in 2016 after over two decades of planning and executing. The passion Scorsese felt while making the project is certainly projected onto the screen, and Garfield was naturally a good choice for his role due to the passion he brings forth in everything he does. The movie is somber and quiet, yet deafening with the questions it will raise: questions about faith, selfishness, and pride all come to mind but are ultimately unanswered.

Up Next

Under the Banner of Heaven

Under the Banner of Heaven is an upcoming crime drama miniseries based on the non-fiction (more real-life based work for Garfield) novel of the same name by Jon Krakauer. In the series, the faith of a Mormon police detective is shaken while investigating the murder of a woman that seems to involve the Church and one of Utah’s most esteemed families. Garfield will star as Pyre, the detective, alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sam Worthington, and Wyatt Russell. Under the Banner of Heaven is under production from FX and was originally planned as a movie but changed to a miniseries to have more storytelling room.

Brideshead Revisited

First published in 1945, Evelyn Waugh’s beloved novel Brideshead Revisited follows Oxford undergraduate Charles Ryder and his complicated friendship with the wealthy Flyte family. The book was adapted into an acclaimed series by Granada Television in 1981, which starred Jeremy Irons, and is now getting remade by the BBC. Brideshead Revisited explores some heavy themes, which can be expected of any work Garfield is attached to at this point in his career, most notably being dated class-system nostalgia, Catholicism, and homosexuality. Call Me By Your Name director Luca Gaudagnino is adapting the series for BBC.

Oscar Isaac Receives SAG Award Nomination for ‘Scenes from a Marriage’

0

Nominations for the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards have officially been announced!

HBO and HBO Max received a total of 14 nominations, including one for Oscar Isaac —  Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series — for his role in the limited series Scenes from a Marriage.

An adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s classic Swedish miniseries, Scenes from a Marriage is written and directed by Hagai Levi. The series explores love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage, and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple. Jessica Chastain stars as Mira, a confident, ambitious tech executive left unfulfilled by her marriage, and Isaac portrays Jonathan, a cerebral and accommodating philosophy professor desperate to keep their relationship intact.

Over the course of five episodes, both Isaac and Chastain emotionally lay themselves bare to audiences, fraught with complex feelings of love, hatred, and everything in between. Scenes from a Marriage is a hauntingly honest and intimate look into a tragically collapsing relationship. (In case you missed it, check out our review.) Isaac’s SAG Award nomination is a well-earned accomplishment for his passionate and raw performance in the series.

Isaac had an incredibly busy 2021, a year which saw the release of several more of his projects, including The Card Counter, The Addams Family 2, and Dune. His next film, Big Gold Brick, is due to premiere on February 25, and he will also be making his grand entrance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the vigilante Moon Knight aka Marc Spector sometime this year. Take a look at all of his upcoming roles here.

This is the first time that Oscar Isaac has been nominated for a SAG Award.

The 28th annual SAG Awards will take place on February 27 at 8 p.m. EST, airing on TBS and TNT.

Interview: Keegan Allen on ‘Walker’ Midseason Return and Attending a ‘Supernatural’ Convention [EXCLUSIVE]

Walker returns from its midseason break tomorrow, and we got the chance to catch up with Keegan Allen, who plays Liam Walker on the series. We talked about Liam’s repercussions after his very bad decision (calling in a fake police report), his contention with the Davidsons, and Keegan’s first experience at a Supernatural convention.

Nerds and Beyond: We see at the end of the last episode that Liam made a very bad decision (calling in a fake police report) — a “career-ending” one as Cordell puts it. How does that affect Liam going forward with the rest of the season? Will there be a lot changing for him?

Keegan: We’re gonna see the repercussions of his decision of essentially calling out a false police report. This is a difficult season for Liam. It’s a lot of finding his feet, finding his way back after this. But ultimately, it has a lot to do with the seismic effects of what Liam has done and why he did it. So we get both sides of the street. We see you know, his sort of like call for help, how his family comes to his side and how he comes to his own side… and recognizes a lot in his life. You know, he needs to figure out before he can move forward in his career and in his life.

Rebecca Brenneman/The CW

Nerds and Beyond: Liam was at odds a lot with Cordell so far this season. How does that relationship grow? Will they still be at odds for a while?

Keegan: Like any family dynamic, there’s always going to be ups and downs and we get to see, you know, how this particular incident affected Liam’s career and it is not a good look for Cordell. Being a Texas Ranger and being not only associated, but related to the incident. So, we get to see kind of the flip flop. I said just in a previous interview, [that] it’s like we get to see this flip flop of how last season Liam was there supporting Cordell, [and] in this season, how it is Cordell supporting Liam and what are those effects that kind of seep into the relationship. So … we get a real, I guess, taste of the test of their friendship. And it’s a really interesting season. But mostly in this episode coming up, you know, Liam makes some poor, poor decisions, to say the least. And you know, there’s repercussions to all of this stuff.

Nerds and Beyond: So Liam was very suspicious of the Davidsons as soon as they arrived. Do you think that was genuine suspicion on his behalf? Or do you think Denise taking over as the DA also kind of played a role in that?

Keegan: So yes, and no. I’m just drawing this from my own side of this script, but, you know … Liam was never a big fan of Denise … growing up feeling like, you know, she kind of stole away Cordell in those formative years … and Liam probably felt like an outsider. But besides that, there’s some sort of a gut feeling that Liam has, that seems to be I guess, invisible to Cordell or Cordell is rather, you know, not taking his gut feeling serious enough. And [he is] sort of siding with the Davidsons so much because he has his history with Denise. And because Liam doesn’t have that history with the Davidsons, he’s able to, I think, see a bit clearer into what [he] feels as something wrong. So obviously, that feeling coupled with the history, and you know, the fact that here is someone who’s very much primed and ready to take over as District Attorney in Travis County, [and] suddenly gets … just completely blindsided with the reality that now his boss is someone that … there’s so much contemptuous behavior toward and contention. I think that there’s so many facets to why Liam feels the way that he feels, that it’s almost like he has to take a step back and recognize himself why he feels the way that he feels and why he made the decisions that he’s made and moving forward what he wants in his career.

Rebecca Brenneman/The CW

Nerds and Beyond: So in the first half of the season, we see Liam almost get shot again and then go on investigating these cases with Cordell. What have been your favorite scenes or storylines of Liam’s so far?

Keegan: Yeah, I really love that that man’s never afraid to run into a gunfight. Those scenes were so fun to shoot. But that and a lot, a lot of scenes coming up … I really enjoyed the intoxication scenes. I enjoy being able to have like, just a full spectrum of Liam, you know, this side of him, the wounded, you know, sort of pariah that runs into the forest and then also just the way that he handles … his issues, how he handles it moving forward and coming back into it. And then you know, seeing there’s a visit from Bret, how he deals with that, you know, the ghosts of his past so to speak, and then also how he is able to speak to his brother about a very real thing that’s happened where, you know, we all have our issues and how we deal with them but you know, our family is forever, blood is forever. The show really does a wonderful job of always coming back full circle to family and what it means to have and be in a family. No matter what, to be able to come back to and how we deal with those second chances and those mistakes.

Nerds and Beyond: So is there a specific scene that’s coming up that you’re really excited about (one you can tell us about), or one that you just really loved filming?

Keegan: Yeah, I really love doing the scene that’s coming up of Liam having a little bit too much to drink. And recognizing that oh my gosh, he’s like I need to go. I need to go right now and make a statement. Because it’s like, he puts it all together after having like, way too many drinks. And he goes in, you know, as intoxicated and there’s like a fun little like Easter Egg in this episode that is just, it’s just like kind of just fun. It’s just fun to kind of let loose [with] that character and see where a character that normally is very put together and very, very self aware loses all awareness and falls completely apart. It’s just a wonderfully fun scene to shoot and having Alex Landi there and Jeff Pierre and Coby Bell during this, of course and Jared. It’s wonderful to work with just having all those guys there, to kind of support this. These choices as an actor have been very fun, [it] was a very fun scene.

Nerds and Beyond: Lastly, you recently attended a Supernatural convention with Jared and it was kind of your first interaction in like a big way with Walker fans. How was that experience for you?

Keegan: It was incredible. First of all, it was life changing because I’ve done conventions before. You know, obviously for the last show I was on there were conventions all over the world where fans would show up, but seeing the Supernatural family and how accepting they were of Jared and Jensen’s … just their trajectory in their careers, the support there first and foremost, for you know, the end of a huge piece of Jared and Jensen’s life. And being there to support them on their next journeys … Jensen with The Boys and Jared with Walker. And being so accepting and inviting and inclusive to me. I went there honestly, just to see it and photograph it. And I couldn’t believe just how that family is just this wonderful … it’s almost like a fully formed body of like this almost amazing family that’s been created from Supernatural and so I loved how inclusive they were of Walker and how excited they were and how much they knew. I couldn’t believe it. [There’s] just so much information that they’ve taken in from Walker and … it’s just wonderful and Jensen’s just a doll. I mean, he’s just so charming and wonderful.

I get it like, after that weekend I turned to Jared when we were coming back home and I was like, ‘I get it.’ I totally get it. I understand it. And man, it’s a beautiful, beautiful thing, a wonderful partnership. And I’m just lucky to be able to play [Jared’s] brother [in] something else. I mean, he’s just, it’s unreal. What a wonderful… just a wonderful thing.

Walker returns this Thursday on The CW at 8/7c.

‘Superman & Lois’ Season 2 Premiere Teases the Arrival of a Major Villain

Superman & Lois‘ explosive season 2 premiere has come and gone. With it came the introduction of Lt. Mitch Anderson and The Supermen of America, as well as a major villain.

In a brief moment at the end of the premiere, viewers get a point of view shot of a hand busting through the same wall that Anderson’s recruits previously opened. That hand belongs to none other than iconic DC villain Doomsday.

The character first appeared during the Death of Superman event in 1992. A war machine created by Bertron, a mad scientist, Doomsday’s entire purpose revolves around hate and destruction. Eventually, it grows to him being the only one able to take down the powerful hero. And not just take him down, but out … for good. Well, at least until he’s resurrected.

Many fans were skeptical on social media as to if it really is Doomsday, but showrunner Todd Helbing confirmed to Entertainment Weekly it is indeed the villain and he’s set to make a greater appearance in episode 3. Helbing also notes that they’re going to explore things that previous adaptions (including the comic counterparts) haven’t. Mostly, Doomsday’s origins are unknown and it’s universally accepted that it’s better he’s kept an enigma. “I think one of the things that we all really dig about the comic book world, but particularly with the villains, is finding ways to use assumptions about a character, and then flipping that, and finding ways to explain things that haven’t been explained in the comics, like the use of something, or why a character does a certain thing.”

Superman & Lois airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. Check out our recaps and subsequent coverage here.

‘Ted Lasso’ Scores Five SAG Award Nominations

Ted Lasso continues to rack up award nominations as the hit Apple TV+ series secures five SAG nominations in three categories.

Brett Goldstein and Jason Sudeikis are both up for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series, and Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple compete in Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. The entire cast was also recognized as they nabbed Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series as well.

The series follows American college football coach Ted Lasso as he embarks on a new career path, a soccer coach for AFC Richmond in England. And he knows nothing about soccer. Gearing up to begin filming its third season, the series has become one of the greatest airing today. Its overwhelmingly positive messaging paired with the tactical dismantling of toxic masculinity and portrayals of the mental health struggles both in sports and beyond has earned it a place amongst the best series of our generation.

Ted Lasso is no stranger to awards, with the series picking up wins with ease, and for good reason. The show airs exclusively on Apple TV+.

You can watch the 28th annual SAG Awards February 27 at 8 p.m. EST on TBS and TNT. Check out all the nominees here!

‘Superman & Lois’ Shakes Up Season 2 Premiere With The Introduction of [SPOILER]

The season 2 premiere of Superman & Lois packed in lots of action and the introduction of a new character. But there also lies another surprise: The Supermen of America.

In DC Comics lore, the Supermen of America was funded by Lex Luthor and led by Outburst, otherwise known as Mitch Anderson. Made up of a team of young metahumans, they band together after the death of singer Junior K-D from Crossfire. In Superman & Lois, Anderson is introduced as the supersede of General Sam Lane at the DoD. He butts heads with Superman because he feels the hero isn’t listening to orders, opting instead to carve his own path as the Man of Tomorrow.

In season 1, the concept of metahumans was explored when Jordan accidentally attacks Tag who got sent to a “special school.” (Could this be the school Lt. Anderson referenced in the premiere?)

Now, the season just premiered, so there’s no way of knowing at this point the direction that showrunner Todd Helbing will take it. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Helbing discussed crossing the comic storyline over to television. ” … We got excited about that because it works in a lot of ways and you know, his recruits…we’re doing a bit of a story from the books that you’ll start to see, the Superman of America. Bringing them in right now, we love these sort of deeper dives of the comics, but also, it’s just such an F U to Superman for Anderson to steal his logo.” (Anderson’s recruits don the House of El logo.)

DC Comics

In the first episode, Clark becomes hyperaware of a potential earthquake looming overhead. He gets his family to safety and heads over the city in his supersuit to get a better view and listen at the commotion. Of course, he does some saving along the way, including a dig site where he goes underground to see where it’s coming from.

Using his heat vision, he senses two bodies on the other side of a dirt wall. They bust through and are met face to face with Superman. Obviously perplexed, Superman confronts Lt. Anderson at the DoD. He claims Superman’s priorities need to lie with America and they don’t seem to do so at the moment. Superman notes he gave that up a long time ago. Instead of Truth, Justice, and the American Way, Superman’s new ethos is Truth, Justice, and A Better Tomorrow.

Superman & Lois airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Andrew Garfield Nominated for SAG Award for ‘tick, tick…BOOM!’

The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations were announced this morning, and to no surprise Andrew Garfield has received another award season nomination for his performance in tick, tick…BOOM!. Garfield received a nomination under the Male Actor in a Leading Role category, where he will go up against Javier Bardem, Benedict Cumberbatch, Will Smith, and Denzel Washington.

tick, tick…BOOM! marks the directorial debut for Grammy Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda. Written for the stage by Jonathan Larson originally as a rock monologue and penned for the screen by Steven Levenson, tick, tick…BOOM! tells the story of Jon (Garfield), a young theater composer in New York City. Jon, much like many others in the big city, dreams of writing the next great American musical. Days before he’s due to showcase his work in a performance that could launch his career or destroy it, Jon is feeling the pressure from everywhere, especially those close to him. With the clock ticking, Jon is at a crossroads and must figure out what he, like all of us, must do with the time given to him.

Garfield has received increasing attention in the last couple of months since the movie’s premiere on Netflix on November 12, 2021 due to his performance as the late Larson. Audiences and critics alike seem to agree that Garfield not only delivered an impressive performance in his first musical, but that he was able to embody Larson in such a beautiful and impactful way. Garfield delivered an emotionally moving performance consistent with his history in the industry, and clearly awards season is off to a great start in proving that.

tick, tick…BOOM! is available to stream now on Netflix.
