‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’s Jane Levy to Appear on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist returned for season 2 with a bang last week. The season opener featured high energy, Broadway style musical numbers as well as emotional ones, and it’s safe to say fans were more than a little excited to welcome Jane Levy and the gang back!

Levy will be appearing on the Late Night with Seth Meyers on Friday, January 15 to talk about the hit show and maybe share a secret or two. Catch the latest episode of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, “Zoey’s Extraordinary Distraction,” on January 12 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. C. Then make sure to tune in for Levy’s late night appearance.

Cole Sprouse to Appear on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on January 15

Riverdale‘s fifth season is premiering soon after a long hiatus and Cole Sprouse will be appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 15 to promote it!

Sprouse’s Jughead had a tumultuous start to his senior year in the previous season. Transferring to Stonewall Prep nearly killed him, literally, and now he’s investigating the Videotape Voyeur with his girlfriend, Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), trying to figure out who is watching all the Riverdale residents and recreating the gang doing horrifying things. In the upcoming season, Jughead and Betty will continue their investigation, but not much is known about what Jughead will be up to after the seven-year time jump beginning in the fourth episode.

Catch Sprouse on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday, January 15 at 11:35 p.m. ET/10:35 p.m. CT on NBC! Season 5 of Riverdale premieres on Wednesday, January 20 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on The CW.

Lili Reinhart to Appear on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ on January 12

The fifth season of The CW’s Riverdale is fast approaching and Betty Cooper herself, Lili Reinhart, will be appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on January 12!

In the second half of the previous season, Reinhart’s Betty, along with Cole Sprouse’s Jughead, was investigating a slew of videotapes that were being sent to all residents of Riverdale of their houses being watched for hours. Soon, though, the tapes became eery and horrifying recreations of the gang and other residents doing brutal events, like Clifford Blossom shooting his son, Jason. In the upcoming season, Betty and Jughead will continue to investigate their voyeur, but not much is known of what will happen to the two after the seven-year time jump that will take place in episode four.

Catch Reinhart on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, January 12 at 11:35 p.m. ET/10:35 p.m. CT on CBS! Season 5 of Riverdale premieres on Wednesday, January 20 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on The CW.

Edrisa Tanaka’s Best Moments From Season 1 of ‘Prodigal Son’

0

In honor of Prodigal Son returning for its second season on Tuesday, Nerds and Beyond has been spotlighting some of our favorite characters from the show; Dr. Edrisa Tanaka, played by the wonderful Keiko Agena, undoubtedly falls into this category.

Our favorite M.E. has been a joyous beam of light in a show that can at times be very dark and heavy. Every time her bob makes itself known on our screen, we know that we’re in for a delight. Whether it’s bantering and flirting with Malcolm, making astute (if not inappropriate for the situation) observations, or working her medical magic, Edrisa’s naturally effervescent, keen personality shines through any time she is on the scene. Without further ado, here are some of our favorite Edrisa moments from Season 1 of Prodigal Son.

BRIIIIIIIGHT (a.k.a the tackle)

This is arguably the funniest Edrisa moment from the entirety of season 1. When a victim is stabbed with the upper portion of a champagne bottle, Malcolm is almost blasted by the pressure of the body’s expanding gases causing the cork to fly across the room. Of course, Edrisa can’t let her man get hit, so in a moment of heroic passion, she launches herself into his path, screaming “Briiight!” While she does manage to tackle Malcolm to the ground, she realizes that she misjudged the path of the cork, leaving her sheepishly laying on top of Bright.

Edrisa once again proving that she’s Malcolm’s ride or die right here. Though her rationale for Malcolm’s innocence might have been slightly… off, Edrisa was the only member of the team that seemed to wholeheartedly believe that he was not responsible for the death of Endicott’s lackey Eddie. The M.E.’s defense of her favorite neurotic profiler not only showcases her loyalty to Bright but her hilarity as well, as this definitely prompted a chuckle from the audience.

He Didn’t Want Me to Kiss Him, Right?

In the finale episode, Malcolm is meeting with Edrisa in the morgue to examine Eddie’s body. Malcolm is trying to figure out who would’ve planted his DNA on the body. As he leaves to go investigate, Edrisa stops him. Stricken with worry, she hugs him tightly and says, “Don’t die” (be still, our hearts). He grabs her shoulders, looks her in the eyes, and reassures her that he’ll be okay. He walks swiftly out of the morgue as Edrisa watches longingly. As he is just out of the morgue she says, “He didn’t want me to kiss him, right?” Her comedic timing is impeccable and we can’t help but giggle in this otherwise serious scene.

Edrisa’s Got It Handled

No one messes with Edrisa’s morgue. No one. This moment is our favorite badass moment of Edrisa’s. Malcolm knows that something was wrong when he called Edrisa, so he goes to check on her. He sees their murder suspect, Leanne, holding a gun to Edrisa. Malcolm calls Gil to let him know the situation (finally he calls for backup). He comes in to the morgue and tries to help subdue Leanne. She wants the victim’s body, but Edrisa refuses. As Malcolm is maintaining Leanne’s attention, Edrisa suddenly whacks her in the head with a metal tray, knocking her out. Malcolm wasn’t expecting it, and neither were we. Edrisa: 1, Killer: 0.

Did someone call for a doctor? It’s not often Edrisa makes house calls for patients, let alone patients with pulses. Gil, Malcolm, and Edrisa find Dev unconscious in his apartment. Dev was injected with a substance that will start the embalming process before his heart stops. Gil and Malolm turn to Edrisa to save the day, but she freezes. With time running out, Malcolm convinces Edrisa that she knows what to do, and she is the only one who can do this. She gets a rush of confidence, and remembers that ethanol can reverse the effects. Quickly, they find a bottle of alcohol and a syringe, and Edrisa injects it into Dev’s vein. Saving his life, she grabs the alcohol from Gil and says, “That’s good.” We can’t blame Edrisa for trying to calm down, especially after such an intense and stressful incident. After that adrenaline rush, we’d probably grab a drink, or two.

This scene is embedded in Prodigies’ memories forever, not just because of how handsome Tom Payne is in his Miami Vice-esque suit, but because of our favorite doctor’s commentary. Edrisa cracking jokes at Malcolm’s expense is priceless, especially because she is usually so sweet to him. Seeing Edrisa laugh it up with the rest of the team highlighted how easily her presence brightens the room, bringing smiles and laughter to otherwise grim situations.

This show simply wouldn’t be the same without the ray of sunshine that is Edrisa Tanaka. We can’t wait to see more of the bubbly M.E. in season 2 — especially since we will be getting an Edrisa-centric episode, according to information obtained in our exclusive interview with the showrunners.

Prodigal Son returns to FOX on Tuesday, January 12 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.

‘The Velvet Underground’ Documentary Coming to Apple TV+ in the Summer

0

Director Todd Haynes (Dark Waters) brings a new project to Apple TV+ this summer in his first documentary film. The film will focus on the influential rock band The Velvet Underground.

In New York City during 1964, Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison, and Angus MacLise (who was replaced in 1965 by Maureen “Moe” Tucker) became The Velvet Underground. They released their debut album, The Velvet Underground & Nico, in 1967, which unfortunately didn’t do overly well. But, 36 years later, in 2003, Rolling Stone labeled it one of the “most prophetic rock albums ever made” in their 500 Greatest Albums article. They did a reunion tour in the early 90s, and in 1996 Reed, Cale, and Tucker performed at the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction – without Morrison, who passed away a year before in 1995.

This documentary has the full participation of the surviving members Cale, Tucker, and Reeds’ partner Laurie Anderson. Haynes’ film will have interviews with them, archive footage from the band’s manager Andy Warhol, and more.

Keep an eye out this summer for the release of The Velvet Underground documentary on Apple TV+.

Reuniting with a former on-screen lover, Rob Lowe, Edelstein’s Gwyneth is the ex-wife of Lowe’s firehouse 126 captain, Owen Strand, and the mother of T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein).
