‘Superman & Lois’ to End With Upcoming Fourth Season

It’s official — Superman & Lois will take its final flight on The CW with the upcoming fourth season.

Back in June, it was revealed that Superman & Lois would continue for a shortened fourth season, and with the overhaul at The CW at the time, fans were uncertain about the show’s future amidst the cancellations. Despite James Gunn’s efforts in January to alleviate some of the concerns by saying that “It’s a show everybody likes, so it’s gonna keep going for a little bit,” the series will wrap its final season with 10 episodes in 2024. Now only three properties pre-Nexstar acquisition remain: All American, All American: Homecoming, and Walker.

“Over the last three seasons, Superman & Lois redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler, Elizabeth and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe,” said Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment, The CW Network. “We are grateful for the years of hard work and graceful storytelling from the show’s writers, producers, actors and crew, as well as our terrific partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions. As Superman embarks on his final flight, the team is leaving us with an absolutely epic 10-episode must-watch-every-minute farewell to one of the most legendary CW families ever.”

“While we’re sad to say goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of Season Four, we’re grateful for the time we’ve had with our amazing cast, crew, vfx teams, editors, musical geniuses, and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it was about family. And that’s what was created—on and off screen,” said executive producers and co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher. “We’d like to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm during this journey…and give a very special thank you to all the fans for tuning in. We’re thrilled about what we have in store in our final season, and can’t wait for everyone to watch as Superman, Lois and all our heroes face off against the biggest threat in the show’s history—Lex Luthor.”

Superman & Lois premiered in February 2021 with over 1.7 million viewers. Throughout the course of that season the ratings would gradually drop, averaging out to just under a million viewers for the whole season. Seasons 2 and 3 averaged in at about 821,000 and 656,000 viewers, respectively. The series follows the Kent family — Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch), Jordan (Alex Garfin) and Jonathan (Jordan Elsass for seasons 1 & 2, Michael Bishop for season 3) — as they reacclimatize themselves to small town living in Smallville. However, the journey is not without its problems, as many of the show’s villains (Tal-Rho, Bruno Mannheim, Onomatopoeia, Lex Luthor) — aim to eliminate what they deem a threat in Superman for good. Hoechlin’s Superman/Clark Kent was first introduced on Supergirl, where he aided his cousin on a few missions. Eventually, he became a fan-favorite character and got a spin-off series with Tulloch as Lois Lane, who briefly appeared on Supergirl alongside Hoechlin and in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event.
