After multiple small announcements and teasers this month, Activision has released the official gameplay trailer for their upcoming franchise game release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. This is the first time in the franchise’s history two titles under the same Call of Duty subseries have released in consecutive years, with Modern Warfare II having released in 2022 and the events of the third installment picking up where the previous left off.

The lead developer behind Modern Warfare III is Sledgehammer Games in partnership with Infinity Ward. The official synopsis for the game’s campaign reads:

“In the direct sequel to the record-breaking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Captain Price and Task Force 141 face off against the ultimate threat. The ultranationalist war criminal Vladimir Makarov is extending his grasp across the world causing Task Force 141 to fight like never before.”

As for the multiplayer side, all 16 launch maps from the original Modern Warfare II have been modernized and updated with additional modes and gameplay features available at launch. Additionally, over a dozen all-new 6v6 maps have been created, which will be the driving force behind post-launch seasons. The returning maps include:

  • Afghan
  • Derail
  • Estate
  • Favela
  • Karachi
  • Highrise
  • Invasion
  • Quarry
  • Rundown
  • Rust
  • Scrapyard
  • Skidrow
  • Sub Base
  • Terminal
  • Underpass
  • Wasteland

If these new and returning maps aren’t enough, for the first time ever Modern Warfare Zombies will be available on the largest map to date for players to team up with other squads to fight off hordes of zombies in an open world setting.

Modern Warfare III will be available on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X|S & One, and PC. Pre-orders are open now at participating retailers, in-game, via your platform Stores, or at CallofDuty.com for both the Standard Edition and Vault Edition, retailing for $69.99 and $99.99. Preordering either edition awards players with the ability to participate in the open beta and play the campaign early.

The Vault Edition for Modern Warfare III includes the Nemesis Operator Pack containing Price, Ghost, Warden, and Makarov; two weapon vaults; and the season 1 battle pass, 1,100 CP and 50 tier skips. Pre-ordering the Vault Edition also comes with a bonus instantly playable Soap Operator Pack.
