‘Joker: Folie à Deux’: First Official Look at Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn
Joker: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips has shared new photos of Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix as Harley Quinn and the Joker.
The new photos come days after leaked footage of Gaga performing a rendition of “A Couple of Swells,” the Fred Astair and Judy Garland duet from the 1948 musical Easter Parade. Phillips confirms in the post that filming has officially wrapped.
Plot details are still being kept heavily under wraps, but it’s been heavily rumored that the film is set to take a different approach from its predecessor, instead branding itself as a musical, taking place predominantly in Arkham Asylum. “Folie à Deux” is a term used to describe a delusion or mental illness shared between two people in close association. With Phillips potentially drawing inspiration from Quinn’s origins accompanied with leaked set photos, it seems to be pointing at her origins as Dr. Harleen Quinzel before she adopts the Harley Quinn moniker.
The supporting cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey. Zazie Beetz, who starred in 2019’s Joker as Sophie, is also returning.
From Warner Bros., Joker: Folie à Deux will make its theatrical debut on October 4, 2024.
