‘Our Flag Means Death’ Season 2 Enters Production

It is September 26 in New Zealand and Our Flag Means Death season 2 has entered production, per several cast members’ social media accounts. Season 2, which received the greenlight from HBO Max in June, is filming in New Zealand — a change from season 1 which filmed in Los Angeles and Malibu.

The series, created by David Jenkins, is an adventure romantic comedy set during the Golden Age of piracy in the early 18th century. Our Flag Means Death follows the misadventures of the Gentleman Pirate, Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby), and his crew on the Revenge as they sail the open seas and attempt to make a name for themselves as pirates. When the eccentric crew crosses paths with the infamous Edward Teach aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi), things take a few turns — especially as Stede and Ed find soulmates in one another.

The season 1 ending left fans of the series with plenty of questions we hope to receive answers to in the upcoming season. Where is Blackbeard going and does he make Izzy eat more toes? Can Ed and Stede reunite and be together, or has Ed strayed too far from grace? And good heavens, the most important question of all — is Lucius alive? Only time will tell.

Our review for season 1 of Our Flag Means Death can be read here. Stay tuned with Nerds & Beyond for future updates on the series.
