‘Star Wars: The High Republic’: What to Expect in Phase II

Lucasfilm

It’s the beginning of the end of Phase I: Light of the Jedi of Star Wars: The High Republic. On January 4, Luscasfilm released The High Republic: The Fallen Star, the last adult novel of the first phase. Other stories within this last wave are set to be released over the next couple of months, which means Phase II of the publishing campaign is already in the works.

There is a lot to look forward to in the second phase. Here’s what we know about it so far:

Phase II begins in October 2022

That’s right! We won’t have to wait too long before getting more High Republic stories. Phase II, titled “Quest of the Jedi,” is coming this fall, and we’re definitely looking forward to it!

We won’t be picking up wherever we leave off

Phase I took us on a journey of perseverance, and while we need to know what happens next, we’re going to have to wait. Phase II is taking a step into the past — 150 years in the past to be exact. According to starwars.com, this phase will follow a “very familiar Star Wars storytelling order” and tell “new tales that serve as prequels to what we’ve experienced so far.”

New Authors will be contributing

It won’t just be Claudia Gray, Cavan Scott, Charles Soule, Justina Ireland, and Daniel José Older at the helm of this era. Authors Zoraida Córdova, George Mann, Tessa Gratton, and Lydia Kang will be joining the crew and contributing books and comics to Phase II. Córdova, Mann, and Kang have all written or contributed to Star Wars books in the past. Gratton will contribute a short story to the forthcoming anthology Star Wars: Stories of Jedi and Sith.

We will get to see a hero’s origin story

An older Jedi we’ve gotten to know in the first phase is finally getting his origin story. Soule will be writing about Porter Engle’s past in a new Marvel comic that will reveal how the Jedi-turned-cook became known as the “Blade of Bardotta.”

We learned a lot more about Phase II during the anniversary edition of the Star Wars: The High Republic Show, including the fact that we will get some Phase II hints in Star Wars: The High Republic: Mission to Disaster, which is set to be released on March 1.

Also during the anniversary special, Claudia Gray revealed that not everybody survives in The High Republic: The Fallen Star. So get your tissues ready! The Fallen Star is out now.
