‘Roswell, New Mexico’: Everything We Know About Season 4 So Far

THE CWROSWELL, NEW MEXICO'Roswell, New Mexico': Everything We Know About Season 4 So Far

Season 3 of Roswell, New Mexico came to a close with a nail-biting, action-packed two-hour finale event. The season-long bad guy, Jones, finally met his demise while the fan-favorite couples seem to get a fresh start. You can check out our full recap on the events of the finale, but the end of the season set up some big questions about what’s to come for season 4. Not much is yet known, but we’re going to take a look at everything we know about season 4 so far!

Production is Underway

First and foremost, yes there is a season 4 and filming is already underway in New Mexico. Production is expected to run from August 2021 through January 2022, setting the series slightly ahead of its typical schedule. Several cast members including leads Nathan Dean, Jeanine Mason, Lily Cowles, and more have all shared an Instagram story or two from set letting us know the majority of our main cast will be returning.

There have been no official releases on this front, but with the rare (dare we say happy?) ending of the season 3 finale, we will have to wait for season 4 announcements before this is set in stone.

What About Sanders?!

One of the only cliffhangers fans have been stressing over since the finale is whether Sanders is alive. Jones threatened to kill him if Michael disobeyed, which of course he did, and we saw Jones do something to Sanders’ heart before Sanders dropped to the ground. We don’t see him again, but the good news is the Roswell, New Mexico writers confirmed via Twitter that Sanders is indeed ok! “He’s been through worse” so we can expect to see him back in action and giving Michael a hard time (and blunt pep talks) next season!

Casting Updates

While it’s still early (the finale aired just this week after all) for official announcements from The CW, we can expect the majority of the core cast to remain as prominent or more so in the coming season. The season 3 finale also brought a huge fan favorite actress into the fold!

Shiri Appleby, who portrayed Liz in the early 2000’s tv series, Roswell, was introduced in the final moments of the finale as Allie. Little is known about Allie other than she was Liz Ortecho’s teacher at some point. She states this when she meets a naked woman found roaming in a small Mexican town. The only thing this woman will say is “Liz Ortecho” but Allie knows Liz and asks how the woman knows Liz. Will this be a new rivalry? It’s implied the character might struggle with alcohol abuse considering she can barely sit upright in this final shot. Plus, her drunken talk of “sky people” might mean she already knows of the existence of aliens. Executive Producer Chris Hollier confirmed that Appleby was pitched a mini-arc for Allie and enthusiastically agreed. Just how long she will be a part of the show remains to be seen.

That leaves us asking, who is this mystery woman? Jones claims he already called whoever, or whatever, to come for him in the finale. Perhaps this woman is connected to this call. Whether she’s an alien or not remains to be seen, but Hollier also confirmed her return in season 4.

It was also announced earlier this year that Andrew Lees and Zoe Cipres will join season 4 as recurring roles as a Bonnie and Clyde bank-robbing duo. They will cross paths with Michael Guerin. Clyde (Lees) is determined to steal back what’s rightfully theirs. He is a man with deeply held beliefs, fighting to keep his family on the right path — and he sees a potential ally in Michael. Bonnie (Cipres) has an impulsive nature but is a caring, voraciously curious woman struggling to find her place on this Earth — something Michael can relate to.

When Will Season 4 Premiere?

With production on the new season already underway and planning to wrap up in January 2022, this likely means we will see Roswell, New Mexico returning to our screens on the same schedule as season 3. When early series renewals happened in February The CW’s CEO Mark Pedowitz stated a desire to continue, “a strong, stable schedule to build on for next season.” If the network is truly desiring some stability in their schedule, it’s like season 4 is going to keep with the previous seasons, running for 13 episodes and premiering midseason.

As always we will continue to bring fans the latest coverage of Roswell, New Mexico as it becomes available including!
