Watch Tom Hanks Travels the West in ‘News of the World’ Trailer
This Christmas, Tom Hanks is set to star in News of the World, reuniting with director Paul Greengrass from which they worked together on the 2013 Best Picture nominee, Captain Phillips.
News of the World is set five years after the Civil War and follows Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Hanks) who is a veteran of three wars that “now moves from town to town as a non-fiction storyteller, sharing the news of presidents and queens, glorious feuds, devastating catastrophes, and gripping adventures from the far reaches of the globe.” While in the middle of the Texas plains, he meets Johanna (Helena Zengel), a 10-year-old child that was taken in by the Kiowa people when she was four, they have raised her as one of their own ever since.
However, Johanna is being forced to return to live with her biological aunt and uncle against her own will. Captain Kidd agrees to take her to wherever the law states she belongs. Traveling hundreds of miles, the two face tremendous challenges of human and natural forces while in the search of a place that either of them will be able to call home.
News of the World is in theaters on December 25.
