Hey, all you cool ghouls and witches! If you’re a fan of Disney parks and spooky things, we’ve got some news for you: Disney is making a new Haunted Mansion movie! This will be the second movie based on the theme park ride, with the first premiering in 2003 with Eddie Murphy. The script is being written by Katie Dippold, who’s worked on Parks and Recreation, Snatched, and Ghostbusters. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who worked together on the live-action Aladdin movie, are producing.

The Haunted Mansion ride first opened in 1969 at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, and its success spawned the construction of additional Haunted Mansion rides at Disney World Orlando and Disneyland Tokyo. Disneyland Paris has a similar Phantom Manor ride, and Hong Kong Disneyland has Mystic Manor. The original ride has stood the test of time as it remains a popular attraction for Disney goers even after 51 years.

This isn’t the only Disney ride to get a movie adaptation, either. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride and the Country Bears each have movies as well, with the former spawning a wildly popular series and a revamp of the ride to include characters from the movies. Disney will also be premiering a movie based on the Jungle Cruise attraction in 2021, pushed back from its original release date due to the pandemic, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

We’ll have a while to wait before watching the latest Haunted Mansion movie, as there is yet to be a potential release date, but stay tuned for more updates!
