On Wednesday, Disney announced that The New Mutants will be released in theaters on August 28, 2020. The film was previously scheduled for an April 3 release date but was removed from the calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The New Mutants is a spinoff from the X-Men universe that follows five young mutants that are held against their will in a facility after discovering their own powers. The mutants fight to try and escape from this horror-filled place. Originally filmed in 2017, The New Mutants has had quite a journey to get to this point. It was scheduled to originally open on April 13, 2018 before getting pushed back to February 22, 2019. It was then moved to August 2, 2019 with the idea that reshoots would happen. In January of this year, it was announced that it would be coming out in April, and now it’s slated for August.

The film stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Rahne Sinclair/ Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (Glass) as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage, and Henry Saga (Looking for Alaska) as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot. It is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) and co-written with Knate Lee (The Stand).
