Podcast Spotlight: ‘Red Rhino’

If you have not listened to this audio drama, there will be some spoilers below.

Red Rhino follows Wes Whittaker (Jesse Einstien) who while on a school field trip ends up getting odd superpowers. Wes now has the powers of a rhino. That is how he meets the interesting Evangeline (Hershey Wingler), the timekeeper whose mission is to guide Wes so he can save his timeline. In the trials and tribulations, the listener gets glimpses of Wes’s school and home life as well, meeting big brother Buck (Kyle Tye) and little brother Raleigh (Thomas Hagena). Every hero needs his sarcastic best friend, that is where Laura (Nadia Vasquez) fits in wonderfully to help save the final timeline from being doomed. But with a new love interest Aislinn (Kimberly Woods) who has ulterior motives and a nemesis named Chad (Dylan Welc), can Wes stop what is coming?

It is written and created by Meghan Fitzmartin, directed/co-produced by Gloria Iseli, produced by La Nita Harless, with music by Erik Jorgensen.

After the first episode, when Wes rushes in to protect and stand up for his brother Raleigh who was being bullied by Chad, I was hooked. This audio drama is something extraordinary while following the storyline and journey of Wes and the other characters, and it touches on real-life topics that are relatable. The first ten episodes also explore the pressures of responsibility, believing in yourself, self-confidence, mental health, family, and more. The way Meghan writes, the storyline flows smoothly while keeping you guessing. I found myself getting drawn in by the words to the point that I found myself yelling at my computer at some parts, laughing, and wanting to hug the characters to comfort them. With the emotions portrayed by all the actors, you cannot help but become invested.

You can listen to season one of Red Rhino on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and their website – while you are there check out the merch page for an awesome enamel pin.
