An official teaser trailer for the eighth and final season of HBO‘s Game of Thrones has finally been released. The seventh season ended over a year ago, and fans have eagerly been waiting for any sort of reveal regarding season 8 since then.

Watch the trailer below:

Unfortunately, the video does not reveal any actual footage from season 8. Instead, it pans across a scene at the Painted Table inside Dragonstone castle. Ice creeps down from the northernmost parts of Westeros, enveloping the Stark direwolf and continuing on to the Targaryen dragon. Meanwhile, fire blazes up from the south, raging on past the Lannister lion. Fire and ice meet in the middle of the map, a visual representation of A Song of Ice and Fire.

The trailer is an ominous reminder of the perilous state that Westeros was in at the conclusion of the seventh season.

The eight and final season of Game of Thrones is set to premiere in April 2019 on HBO.
