This summer, return to the neighborhood of Mister Rogers.

A groundbreaking program in the world of children’s television, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood won three Emmy awards and a host of others during its thirty-three years on PBS. More importantly, the gentle and kind way Fred Rogers helped generations of children understand their world was an influence that is still felt today.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the premiere of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Focus Features has created Won’t You Be My Neighbor, an absolutely gorgeous documentary featuring interviews, original footage from the show’s early years, and a touching behind-the-scenes look at Fred Rogers’ mission and life’s work.

That message of love and kindness is still needed today, both by children and adults alike. And as the trailer below demonstrates, the film promises to be an emotional journey. As Rogers himself says, “The greatest thing that we can do is to help somebody know that they’re loved and capable of loving.” And that’s exactly what he did.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor opens in select theaters on June 8.
