Osric Chau is a beloved actor who played Kevin Tran on The CW’s Supernatural, Vogle on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and appeared on Comic-Con HQ’s Kings of Con! He also appears frequently at Creation Entertainment’s Salute to Supernatural conventions, which host conventions all over the world.

We had the chance to ask Osric a few questions about Kevin’s send-off, Dirk Gently and his love for video games and Pokémon GO. Read the interview below!

Nerds and Beyond: How was working on Supernatural different from working on other projects? Has attending conventions changed your perception of fandoms?

Osric Chau: It was the first time in this career where I felt like I had a normal job. I got to see the same faces again and again, I had an office to go back to, and for the first time in a decade, I had a sense of structure in my life. The cast and crew were so welcoming that it really didn’t take long before it felt like a family so when I heard the term SPNFamily it just made perfect sense.
I’ve been a part of many fandoms before but this was the first time I actually participated in one. Getting to meet and interact with the fandom in person really makes you appreciate everything you do on set as well. Most of the time I don’t think too much about the repercussions of what I do on set but after going to a few conventions I started to think of random easter eggs that I could do or leave and wonder if anyone would pick up on them if they made the cut.

Nerds and Beyond: You played Jim Moriarty in the Hillywood Show’s Sherlock parody. Are you a fan of Sherlock? If so, what would your dream role on the show be?

Osric: Such a great show! Big fan. I would absolutely love to do a guest star on Sherlock for an episode. I’ll be the youngest ambassador from Canada coming on official business. Moriarty can take me captive and we can hang out for a bit while he tortures me and threatens Sherlock with my mortality.

Nerds and Beyond: Are you currently filming Dirk Gently Season 2? Or will that be filming soon?

Osric: Shooting starts up in May! I’m very excited about heading back to Vancouver for that.

Nerds and Beyond: Are there any other projects coming up that you’re working on?

Osric: Dirk Gently will take up most of my year but I am using my spare time to do some personal projects with some friends. A couple of short films for festivals and writing and developing feature film scripts. Hopefully I can find one that I like and be able to produce and star in my first feature film in the near future.

Nerds and Beyond: What were your thoughts on Kevin’s final send off last season on Supernatural?

Osric: It was really nice to be back on that set and to see everyone again. Bittersweet as always as this time felt like a real good bye. But definitely some closure for my time with the show. Supernatural‘s always gonna be a soft spot for me no matter what I end up doing in the future.

Nerds and Beyond: Are you still playing Pokémon Go?

Osric: I had to stop, it was taking over my life like most video games. I stopped after the expansion came out. Just like the anime and the original games. 150 pokemon was my limit. I don’t even want to listen a pokerap with 450 names. I’m oldschool that way.

Nerds and Beyond: Are there any other video games you’re playing right now?

Osric: Not at the moment. Games have always been a black hole for me unfortunately. Casual gaming is hard. I’ve just got too much work I want to do and not enough time.

A big thank you to Osric for taking the time to answer our questions!
