As conventions begin to return, so do guest updates! Daniel Gillies has been added to the conventions as a new guest to the Whippany, New Jersey and Chicago, Illinois The Vampire Diaries/Originals Reunion conventions.
Unfortunately, Ian Somerhalder is unable to attend The Vampire Diaries/Originals Reunion Conventions in New Jersey (September 24-26, 2021) and Chicago (October 15-17, 2021). Although we will miss Ian, we are pleased to welcome Daniel Gillies ("Elijah Mikaelson") to New Jersey. pic.twitter.com/L5X2v08Cy4
Gillies will be signing autographs for Gold ticket holders as well as taking photos all weekend long. Tickets for his events can be purchased on Creation Entertainment’s website.
Ian Somerhalder can no longer attend the conventions, and Creation is in the process of contacting the fans that have purchased his autographs and photo ops. Fans can bring the PDFs of the items that they purchased to the registration table and get a Credit Voucher for any other photo or autograph while at the convention. They may also send the voucher to Creation with the Invoice Number to receive a refund instead.
Batwoman has welcomed another new cast member to its ranks! Bridget Regan joins the season 3 cast as the villain Poison Ivy! She will be a recurring guest star. She joins previously announced Robin Givens, Nick Creegan, and Victoria Cartagena.
Pamela Isley (a.k.a Poison Ivy) is a former botany student at Gotham University. She is a brilliant and passionate scientist. She plans to change the world. When a colleague experiments on her with plant toxins, those plans go out the window. Now, as Poison Ivy, she uses a dangerous and twisted mindset to do what she still believes is right.
The season 2 finale teased the arrival of Poison Ivy. Earlier in the season, Circe stole several items that belonged to villains from the bat cave. Among them was one of Poison Ivy’s vines. By the end of the season 2 finale, the items are lost to the river or washed up on land. The final shot focuses on Poison Ivy’s vine creeping its way up a small hill.
Thanks to this cliffhanger, it’s likely viewers can expect an early season introduction from Regan. As she’s recurring, and Poison Ivy is a force to be reckoned with, there’s no doubt she will cause major problems for the Bat Team. We can’t wait to meet her!
Batwoman returns on Wednesday, October 13 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on The CW. Catch up on seasons 1 and 2 now on HBO Max. Find all our coverage on the show here.

FOX’s medical drama The Resident will be looking a little different come season 5. Series regular Emily VanCamp, who plays nurse practitioner Nic Nevin, will officially be leaving Chastain Park Memorial ahead of the show’s fifth season.
The news, via Entertainment Weekly, comes just after FOX released a teaser for the upcoming season, which previewed that things might be changing following season 4. Towards the end of the teaser, two policemen ask for Conrad, who is holding daughter GiGi, and this looks like this could bring a tragedy for CoNic.
It’s not known why VanCamp has decided to depart from the FOX series, however she did just have a baby of her own. Or it could be because of her growing Marvel career as Sharon Carter/Power Broker. Whatever the case, The Resident will definitely not be the same without her. Hopefully the door will be open for her to return in whatever way that may be.
After last week’s cliffhanger, Roswell, New Mexico returned for a rewarding episode 6 with answers we definitely needed! This is one of those episodes with five different simultaneous plot lines that all culminate in two distinct final moments, so hang in there. It feels like diving down a rabbit hole this week!
Everyone Wants to Save Kyle and Help Maria
The CW
The driving force of this episode is definitely all parties doing their best to find Kyle or help Maria or both, so we’ll break this down by group.
Liz and Max
Liz and Max take a boots on the ground approach investigating the break in. Max tells everyone he was also attacked, that’s how the doors were shattered. He and Liz search for clues, but she can tell he’s not being completely honest. We find out Max/Jones’ DNA sword was dug up, stolen, and the nearby shovel (why would you leave it at the scene? come on criminals, do better) has blood on it. Liz tries to run DNA, but the hospital’s equipment is having a rough day, first moving very slowly and then oddly breaking after Max lays his magic hands on it to “speed up the process.”
Much later when she’s alone with Maria, Liz notices an alien handprint mark just at the very edge of Maria’s hairline. She confronts Max about it who says he put a pillow under her head and must have done it accidentally. Liz puts the puzzle pieces together just as Rosa and Isobel also discover the truth.
Rosa and Isobel
At the hospital, Isobel and Rosa team up and dive into Maria’s mind where the Wild Pony looks more like the haunted house version of its namesake. Maria is hidden away in her own mind, but has locked away a memory for Isobel and Rosa. Rosa gives her power subduing necklace to Maria to protect her mind, but this causes serious issues for Rosa. Every stressful event (which, let’s be honest, is everything right now) causes her to short out electronics. She also now has super hearing! It’s simply too much noise for her to process. It takes the whole episode but they finally discover the hidden memory.
And what’s the memory of you might ask. Well, it’s the moments after her attack when Max finds her. Or so we thought. Max asks her what happened. She explains that she was attacked from behind by people in alien masks, Kyle switched on a radio as he was gasping for breath (Maria says “dying” but we aren’t ready to go there yet), and it flew out the doors smashing them. Then they took Kyle and left. Max’s indifference confuses Maria and she realizes too late that he’s not Max at all. Jones knocks her out, making sure to put his hand on her head where her hair covers the mark.
Michael and Alex
We didn’t just group these two together because of their steamy past, they actually team up (woo, Malex crumbs!) to uncover the odd happenings. Just before Kyle disappeared he switched on a radio that blew eight radio towers in the vicinity. The signal causes local bats to attack a.k.a slam into the glass at Deep Sky and the radio towers. Independently, Alex and Ramos think this is related to the device turning on. However, we learn later that’s not the case (see below).
Michael calls Alex for help, but Alex won’t loop him in saying, “I didn’t say I wouldn’t help. I don’t want you anywhere near what I might do.” (We love a protective boyfriend.) Michael’s saving grace is actually Sanders, who points out that only vampire bats were affected. They communicate via infrared (daunting details, but it’s important. Hang with me). Bats were found at three towers, meaning Michael can trace the direction of the signal and possibly find Kyle. Or at least the trajectory of where the signal went.
The Mysterious Case of the Bats in the Night
The CW
Michael does indeed trace the radio signal all the way to the outside of Deep Sky. He leaves Alex a voicemail with the information. Sadly, it’s a smidge too late to really be helpful. Alex dropped by the hospital and had a lovely heart to heart with Liz (we need more of them together!). He takes the DNA samples and pulls some strings to get them run at Deep Sky. We learn that the sample isn’t Kyle, but does have a 29% DNA match to Kyle.
Alex noticed a rather large bandage on Ramos earlier in the day. He’s a smart cookie and goes poking around in Ramos’ office already sure of what we as viewers are just realizing. Ramos has the matching radio to Jim Valenti’s and it received the signal. That’s what the bats reacted to. Unfortunately, Ramos finds Alex in his office with the radio. Extra unfortunately, this means Ramos is involved in Kyle’s disappearance and the DNA sword theft. Alex asks where Kyle is and Ramos draws a gun on him.
Max is… Not Max!
The CW
I have to start this section with a shout out to actor Nathan Dean for his incredible portrayal throughout this episode. It’s subtle, but viewers know something is just off about Max. You can’t put your finger on it exactly, but it’s there and it’s brilliant when we get the big reveal that Jones pulled a switch with Max. Naturally, we don’t find out until the final moments of the episode, but we do get to see Jones in action and it’s a little terrifying. He hunts down the people who took his sword and takes it back, making sure to quickly gut them in the process. He clearly has no qualms about murder, so it’ll be interesting to see what next week will bring now that his secret is out.
Roswell, New Mexicoairs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. CT on The CW. Be sure to check out all our coverage as the show continues!

Prepare to head back to school with the announcement of the lead cast joining the new series, based on the young adult book series of the same name. Vampire Academy is headed to the Peacock streaming service with Marguerite MacIntyre and Julie Plec at the helm. Plec is already well known for bringing another popular vampire-based series to life — you may have heard of The Vampire Diaries?
Starting off the cast is Sisi Stringer as the fiery and very opinionated fighter Rose Hathaway. Rose is known as a Dhampir. In this world there are many half-vampire, half-human hybrid individuals who go by this title. Joining Stringer to lead the cast is Daniela Nieves as the kind-hearted royal Lissa Dragomir. Lissa is a royal Moroi vampire, despite having no desire to join her family’s legacy in politics she is thrust into the spotlight by tragedy. These two powerful female characters are the heart and soul of this story and these talented actresses will no doubt be the same to the series.
Joining the two female leads is Kieron Moore as Dimitri Belikov. Like Rose, Dimitri is a Dhampir but has raised in the ranks to become a guardian and bodyguard to the royals. Unlike many in this politically ruled world, Dimitri lives by a strong moral code to hide his more spirited side that fights to come to the surface. Alongside Moore is Andre Dae Kim as Christian Ozera. Even though Christian is a royal Moroi he will never be fully accepted by his peers because of the sins of his parents, but you never know who might just end up being his kindred spirit.
With the core four cast, now it’s time to take time to see who will be joining them to bring to life the world of Vampire Academy. Anita-Joy Uwajeh as Moroi vampire Tatiana Vogel. Mia McKenna-Bruce as non-royal student Mia Karp. Rhian Blundell as the Dhampir Meredith. Jonetta Kaiser as non-royal and slightly odd Sonya Karp. Andrew Liner as guardian-in-training Mason Ashford. Last, but certainly not least, is J. August Richards as Victor Dashkov. Richards is well known to vampire fans from his work on Angel.
The Vampire Academy series is based on the popular book series by Richelle Mead. Based in a world of elegance and royal advantage the unlikely friendship of two very different girls thrives despite society’s standards. Prepare for a fantastic mash up of genres, with aristocratic drama and sexy vampire thrills, this series is sure to keep you glued to the couch to see what happens next. Joining Plec and MacIntyre as executive producers are Emily Cummings, Don Murphy, Susan Montford, Deepak Nayar, and Jillian DeFrehn. To stay up-to-date make sure to follow Nerds & Beyond!
Tom Swift fans, rejoice! The CW has officially ordered Tom Swift straight to series on the strength of its backdoor pilot, which aired as part of Nancy Drew season 2 this past spring.
According to the synopsis released by The CW, the series will follow Tom as he seeks the truth behind his father’s disappearance.
“‘Tom Swift’ follows the serialized adventures of the titular Black, gay, billionaire inventor, who is thrust into a world of sci-fi conspiracy and unexplained phenomena after the shocking disappearance of his father. Tom takes to the road on a quest to unravel the truth, leaving behind the comforts of his usual moneyed lifestyle, all while fighting to stay one step ahead of an Illuminati-scale group hell-bent on stopping him. Tom’s missions will require his genius and flair for innovation guided by love, romance, friendship and the mysteries of the universe yet-unsolved.”
Tom Swiftmakes history as the first network series to have a Black, gay, male lead. It will star Tian Richards in the title role with Melinda Hsu Taylor, Noga Landau, and Cameron Johnson creating the series. The CW has not announced a premiere date but did state the show is expected to arrive during the 2021-22 season.
