‘Hawkeye’ Recap: Season 1, Episode 6 “So This Is Christmas?”

The Hawkeye finale is here, putting Clint and Kate’s skills and partnership to the test as everything finally comes boiling over. Following the startling reveal that Eleanor is the one that hired Yelena to kill Clint, on top of the fact that she’s working with Kingpin, Kate must confront her mother to find out what’s going on. A fancy, festive Christmas party then turns dangerous as the Tracksuit Mafia goes after Eleanor (who is now on Kingpin’s bad side), Clint, and Kate. Meanwhile, Yelena still has unfinished business to take care of, and Maya makes a decision. Let’s break down some of the major events from episode 6, “So This Is Christmas?”

Eleanor’s debt to Kingpin

The episode opens with a meeting between Wilson Fisk and Eleanor. We learn that Eleanor has been working for Kingpin for quite some time not necessarily because she wants to, but because her husband owed him a small fortune, which then became her debt to bear. It turns out that Eleanor was actually the one responsible for Armand’s death, and she notes that Jack is taking the fall for Sloan. But now, Kate has come home, and she’s getting too close to it all. This is where Eleanor draws the line, and so she needs to leave the business. Kingpin is not pleased.

Yelena sent Kate a video file of the whole conversation, and she’s in disbelief that her mother could be working with the mob. Clint remarks that Kingpin won’t take what Eleanor said lightly. They need to help her mother. Although Kate insists that Clint needs to get home to his family for Christmas, he’s not leaving her side.

“Kate, you’re my partner. Your mess is my mess. I’m not going anywhere until this is finished.”

Maya checks in with the boss

Maya arrives for a meeting with Kazi and Kingpin, the latter of which is concerned after seeing the rough shape that she’s in after her fight with Clint/Ronin. Kingpin isn’t happy about what Maya has been up to, because she hasn’t been keeping a low profile. She agrees, telling him that she’s come to her senses, and she’s done chasing ghosts. Unaware of all that Maya knows, Kingpin tells her that he wishes her father could be there now to see her and all of her accomplishments. Maya asks if she can take a couple days off to clear her head, and Kingpin agrees.

After she leaves, Kingpins turns to Kazi, aggravated over the mess that has unraveled between Ronin, Hawkeye, Eleanor, and now Maya … his Maya … she’s turned on them. Kingpin asks Kazi what they’re going to do about it, because the people need to be reminded that the city belongs to him.

A heart-to-heart between two archers

As they prepare for a big night at the Christmas party, Clint and Kate get to work putting together a variety of dangerous new trick arrows to stock up their arsenal, which Kate is thrilled about. She also finally gets a chance to label all of them. As they’re working, the two have a heart-to-heart as Clint begins to talk about how heroes have to make tough decisions, and he wants to make sure she’s ready for what’s coming. Kate goes on to reflect back on the Battle of New York and how inspired she felt after seeing Clint fighting off aliens with a stick and a string, jumping from buildings even though he can’t fly. She realized then that being a hero isn’t just for people with superpowers. You just need to be brave enough to do what’s right, no matter the cost.

Dressed to the nines, Clint and Kate make their way to the Christmas party, flanked by some undercover help in the form of their LARPing friends. They see that Jack has made good on his word to get out of jail in time for the party, and he’s in good spirits with one of his trusty swords at his side. Meanwhile, some other uninvited guests make their way to the party, including Yelena Belova and a brigade of Tracksuit Mafia vans. When Eleanor arrives, Kate confronts her mother.

Kazi, who’s waiting with a sniper rifle in another building, begins firing on Clint, and the party dissolves into chaos. Kate spots Yelena and follows her, and she proceeds to invite herself into her elevator and does what we all have wanted to do at some point in our lives — presses every single button that she can in order to slow her down. The two fight their way through the building, picking back up on their amusing banter, and Yelena even compliments Kate’s moves. (These two totally need to be best friends, okay?) Yelena eventually takes her leave out a window, still in pursuit of Clint. Kate manages to muster up all of her superhero bravery and uses Yelena’s line to rappel down the building. While she may not have been as graceful as the trained assassin who went before her, at least she landed on her feet.

Kate begins taking down Tracksuits outside of the building, and one of them takes a moment to thank her for giving him advice for talking to his his girlfriend. They went to see Maroon 5 instead! Meanwhile, Jack is holding his own, fighting off Tracksuits with his sword, and it’s endearing to realize that he wasn’t such a bad guy after all. While he may be quite different from his villainous comic counterpart, seeing him in action in this episode is a fun nod to the Swordsman.

Chopping down the Rockefeller tree (oops)

Kazi and the rest of the Tracksuits go after Clint inside the building, but he manages to incapacitate them temporarily and makes his way out the window. Unfortunately, the line that he grabs on to snaps from where it’s tethered, and he ends up flying into the Rockefeller tree instead. Kate leaves the LARPing crew to take care of the chaos on the ground alongside Jack while she goes to rescue Clint. Her idea of a rescue is using one of the trick arrows to knock over the entire tree … which … well … it worked, right?

Clint and Kate work together to fight off the endless amount of Tracksuits that are coming after them on the Rockefeller ice skating rink, and we finally get a look at Clint’s fancy new suit. It’s an epic moment of joint teamwork between the two archers, who are truly a seamless pair in battle. However, just when they think they’ve taken them all out, a Tracksuit van comes flying onto the ice. Kate shoots one of Scott Lang’s arrows at it, and she’s baffled to see the van hilariously shrink down to the size of a toy car. The owl that Clint saw in the tree casually flies off with it.

Yelena and Clint finally have a chat

Just before Clint can face off with Kazi and the remaining Tracksuits, Yelena tackles him back onto the ice. Clint tries to explain to her that she needs to know what really happened to Natasha — she sacrificed herself and saved the world. Yelena refuses to believe him, because she thinks he’s a liar, and she continues attacking him.

No matter what Clint says, Yelena doesn’t want to hear it, because she can’t understand why Nat would sacrifice herself for him. And if she did, Clint should have fought harder to stop her. Finally, as he’s laying on the ground, Clint calls out to Yelena with her and Natasha’s secret whistle (yes, the one from Black Widow. I’m not crying, you’re crying). Finally, he gets through to her, and he tells Yelena how Nat talked about her all the time. She loved her sister, and she always wanted her to be safe. Yelena cries, remarking that Clint “got so much time with her.” They both say that they loved her, and Yelena helps Clint to his feet before taking her leave.

Eleanor Bishop, you’re under arrest

Eleanor is about to escape, but Kingpin finds her. Kate arrives just in the nick of time though, and she begins shooting arrows at him, though nothing seems to work. Eleanor hits him with her car, and Kate continues to struggle to fight with him. She manages to eventually get the upper hand by activating all of the trick arrows laying on the ground at once, blowing Kingpin up and knocking him out in the process. Kate goes to check on her mom and confronts her for what she’s done. The police arrive to take her into custody for the murder of Armand, much to Eleanor’s dismay.

The tragedy of Maya and Kazi

Maya arrives at the scene, and Kazi tells her that she should have left, because she knows what he has to do otherwise. The two begin to fight. Maya came back because she’s leaving, but she wants him to come with her. But this is Kazi’s life, and he can’t leave it all behind. This was never supposed to be Maya’s life, though.

Kazi stumbles to his feet, and he tells Maya that he’s not like her, it’s too late for him. Maya tries to convince him otherwise, but he tells her that he can’t walk in two worlds. The two continue to fight, and she stabs him. It’s a heartbreaking and emotional moment as Kazi touches Maya’s face, and she lowers him to the ground. Kazi tells Maya to leave, because Kingpin his coming for her.

After Kingpin manages to drag himself from the rubble, Maya finds him and shoots him. The shots are fired off-screen, so his fate remains unknown.

I’ll be home for Christmas

In the aftermath of the battle, Clint and Kate find themselves sitting in the back of an ambulance. He tells Kate how proud he is of her for what she did. The next day, Clint stays true to his word, and he makes it home for Christmas with Kate and Lucky the Pizza Dog in tow.

Later that day, Clint throws the Ronin suit on the barbecue, putting his alter ego to rest once and for all. Meanwhile, Kate contemplates a title for herself — Lady Hawk? Hawk Eve? Hawk Shot? Lady Arrow? Clint thinks they’re all terrible. He tells her that he has an idea, which is followed by the Hawkeye logo popping up on the screen, signifying that Kate will also assume the Hawkeye mantle alongside him like in the comics.

Agent 19

As Kate, Lucky, and the kids sit in the living room opening gifts, Clint gives the Rolex back to Laura. She flips it over and we see that the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo is on the back, accompanied by the number 19. Agent 19 (Mockingbird in the comics) was previously introduced in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, it remains to be seen if this will either retcon Bobbi Morse and establish Laura Barton as Mockingbird (as it wouldn’t be the first time that AOS has conflicted with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s continuity), frame her as a successor to the title instead, or something else entirely.

Rogers the Musical, uncut

In a moment that feels reminiscent of Marvel Studios releasing “the Zemo cut” during The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the post-credits scene treated fans to the full cut of the song from Rogers the Musical that was shown in the first episode. Glorious.

‘The Witcher’ Recap: Season 2, Episode 6 “Dear Friend”

The second half of the season isn’t going to let up, as episode 6 is just as event-filled as episode 5. Ciri’s powers are put to the test again, Istredd seeks information from some interesting brokers, and Cahir enters into a power struggle with the elves in Cintra. Geralt and Yennefer are reunited finally, though as per usual, their meeting does not end well.

A Devastating Loss

Reasoning with teenagers is just as impossible in the fantasy world of The Witcher as it is in the real world, as is proven in the opening of episode 6. Geralt, still trying to discuss why Ciri going through the Trial of the Grasses would be a bad decision, is making Ciri feel like he doesn’t care what she wants. A new stellacite monster attacks the pair — a Chernobog. After using Ciri as bait, Geralt is able to slay the monster, although Ciri reveals that she could feel the Chernobog did not want to hurt her. Unfortunately, Geralt’s faithful steed Roach does not make it through the encounter with the Chernobog and Geralt is forced to give her a merciful death rather than allow his companion to suffer.

Temple of Melitele

Geralt and Ciri head to visit Nenneke at the Temple of Melitele, where Witchers learn to use signs. The Priestess Nenneke is keenly aware that Ciri is a Daughter of Chaos, yet believes she can help Ciri control the power inside of her. Ciri comes into the possession of the Orbuculum, a strange orb with unknown powers that Ciri must discover. Ciri spends the remainder of the episode trying to unlock the power of the Orbuculum, successfully doing so near the end. Geralt and Ciri’s relationship appears to flourish as the pair become more comfortable and trusting of one another.

Cintra’s Conflict

Cahir, back in Cintra, believes he is in charge once again and his days on the bottom of the totem running for his life are over. However, things are far from perfect in Cintra in his eyes, as he isn’t pleased with the elf situation Fringilla has created. Cahir’s power move in the form of a “training” fight with Filavandrel is interrupted as Francesca goes into labor. While it’s unclear initially if the baby will survive labor, the newborn baby girl ultimately takes her first breaths in Cintra.

Without Fringilla’s growing warmth and sense of humanity, the newborn would not have survived, as it is established that a pure elf hasn’t been born in quite some time due to the conditions the elvish have been forced to live in. Fringilla’s heart is growing softer as her belief in the humanitarian aims of Nilfgaard grows, such as feeding and housing all of those living on the Continent. While Cahir begins to question her loyalty to Nilfgaard due to her caring after the elves, Fringilla is shaken at the news that Emperor Emhir is traveling to Cintra.

Kaer Morhen Under Attack

Rience arrives to Kaer Morhen in search of Ciri. After defeating both Vesemir and Triss in a quick fight, Rience is able to escape with the potion made from Ciri’s blood. Vesemir survives despite his severe wounds, which is a relief seeing as the Witchers definitely still need him around. Triss soon leaves his side to return to Tissaia to inform her about Ciri — and more importantly, Ciri’s potentially world-ending powers.

Yennefer’s Betrayal

Yennefer arrives to the Temple of Melitele in her search for Ciri. Shortly after her arrival, she is reunited with Geralt before being introduced to Ciri officially. The three sit down for a moment together, and it would almost seem as though we are seeing them as a family for the first time if we didn’t already know Yennefer’s true intentions with Ciri — to use her to get her own chaos powers back. Yennefer takes the opportunity of Rience attacking to barricade herself in a room with Ciri. The Orbuculum finally activates due to the presence of Ciri’s power now that she is scared, as she does not yet know how to unlock her powers without fear.

Yennefer takes this moment to teach Ciri her first bit of magic: opening portals. After slaughtering those who had come for Ciri, Geralt catches a glimpse of the two about to escape into the portal. Yennefer ignores Geralt’s plea for her and Ciri to stay, betraying Geralt’s trust.

Lara Dorren’s Weapon

The episode definitely needed some comic relief, as the content and themes of the second half of the season are starting to get much heavier and deeper. We find our comic relief in the information brokers Istredd has hired, Codringher and Fenn. The three discover that Lara Dorren didn’t create a weapon to take back the land that is theirs — rather, she created a warrior. The warrior is, of course, now Ciri who must learn how to control her power … or destroy the entire world. Certainly a daunting task and prophecy for such a young woman.

Nerds Gets Cheery: ‘Scrooged’ Is a Unique Retelling of a Christmas Classic

With the holidays quickly approaching, there are plenty of films available that retells the famous Charles Dickens novella A Christmas Carol. If you are searching for a film that recounts this story a little differently, Scrooged is definitely a film that you should watch. This movie embraces but also subverts a few of the tropes that commonly appear in this work.

Paramount Pictures

Bill Murray plays your grouchy miser Frank Cross, who hates everyone and especially hates Christmas. As Frank is trying to produce a live TV production of A Christmas Carol, he is unsurprisingly visited by the real ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. They use Frank’s memories to try and persuade him to change ways before its too late. How this film depicts and utilizes these ghosts is what sets this film apart from other adaptations. In other films, the ghosts are kind and gentle, slowly trying to get the miser to change his ways. Here the ghosts take another approach; they are wild, unhinged, and downright mean to Frank.

Bill Murray in Scrooged
Paramount Pictures

A highlight of the film is watching Carol Kane as the ghost of Christmas Present and how she mercilessly trolls Frank. From her introduction to her exit, it is impossible to take your eyes off her. One minute she is being sweet and the next you wonder if Frank is going to survive his encounter with her. Another way this film sets its self apart from its predecessors is how Scrooged ends. Usually the A Christmas Carol adaptation ends on a quiet note, but this film’s ending is amazingly chaotic. Murray absolutely nails the physical comedy and has you at the edge of your seat waiting to see if Frank is actually going to change.

Scrooged is over the top and a little raunchy for a Christmas film, but it will still put you in the Christmas spirit. So if you are looking for something unique to watch this season, you can stream Scrooged currently on Amazon Prime.

‘Here’s to Us’ Review: Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera Bring a Do-Over as Endearing as Its Predecessor

0

Three years ago, Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera captured readers’ hearts with Arthur and Ben’s whirlwind summer romance in What If It’s Us (WIIU). Now, the authors revisit Arthur and Ben’s story in an equally charming sequel: Here’s to Us. The sequel sees Ben and Arthur reunite two years after WIIU. Ben still lives in New York. He works part-time and is enrolled in college. He’s made headway with his novel, but still, he feels stuck. Ben’s one bright spot? His sort-of (but not really) boyfriend Mario.

Arthur, meanwhile, returns to New York for his dream Broadway job … well, he gets as close as interning for an off-Broadway show brings him. The only downside is that he has to spend the summer away from his definitely boyfriend, Mikey. So, when Ben comes back into his life, he’s fine (totally, completely fine). Besides, Ben is happy, too. Right? But even so, the universe seems to have other plans.

As Here’s to Us is a time jump, Albertalli and Silvera acquaint readers with characters new and old. First, Dylan is still very much the blissfully chaotic best friend that charmed readers in WIIU. While he holds fast to his familiar personality, he also has the opportunity to mature in his own way. Readers don’t ever really get a full sense of what occurs in Dylan’s brain (as the book is written in first person). However, it doesn’t hinder his growth in any way. In fact, I found myself swelling with pride for Dylan by the end of the book. Meanwhile, readers meet new characters Mario and Mikey, Ben and Arthur’s almost boyfriend and boyfriend, respectively. Both Mario and Mikey are wonderful complements to their other halves. But they also serve as interesting obstacles for everyone itching to see Ben and Arthur pick up where they left off. Whether they’re unintentionally fueling jealousy or playing it totally cool hanging with their SO’s ex, Mario and Mikey are welcome additions.

The book’s secondary characters offer a lot to appreciate. But the two characters truly at the heart (of course) are Arthur and Ben. Returning to these characters felt like reuniting with old friends. For Arthur and Ben, a reunion means confronting feelings that maybe never really went away. What Albertalli and Silvera do so well in this book is tackling every big feeling abandoned in the wake of Arthur and Ben’s breakup in WIIU plus the distance. From the beginning of the book, readers sense that lingering yearning both try not to overthink. How could they miss each other when they both have new romantic pursuits? In turn, Arthur and Ben’s relationships with Mikey and Mario inform how the two went from talking every day to letting the chasm between them widen.

Though the story is steeped in Ben and Arthur’s history and general underlying romance, I found that Here’s to Us is just as much about platonic love as it is romantic, as well as the aforementioned swirl of feelings. Ben and Arthur both struggle to name their relationship with each other. There’s still that bittersweet aching that bursts with what ifs. Moreover, Arthur and Ben want (and need) to rebuild a friendship they never fully got to establish. Seeing each other happy with their partners reinforces every insecurity and every ounce of regret they couldn’t work through or are terrified to face because they don’t want to hurt anyone. Nevertheless, they try. They begin to take accountability. And this time around, readers really see how those feelings affect the pair and how they learn and bloom from the experience.

In every book, authors put a little of themselves into their characters. Albertalli and Silvera did so in WIIU, and, naturally, they do in Here’s to Us. The difference, however, is that their voices shine through so prominently this time around. There’s a sense of growth that’s imbued not only with their protagonists, but also themselves. Readers still recognize the characters they grew to love. This time, the maturation of Arthur and Ben is palpable. It settles into the deepest parts of readers. While WIIU provides a sweet story, Here’s to Us allows readers to gain a greater sense of its evolution.

I’m not gonna lie, the wait for Here’s to Us was excruciating. But it was fully worth it. Albertalli and Silvera only reiterate that they truly are the dynamic duo. Albertalli’s light-hearted, optimistic style and Silvera’s wrenching and slightly more cynical method continue to perfectly blend. They boldly pour their hearts out through Arthur and Ben, bringing a messy, humorous, heartbreaking, romantic, and joyful story to the table. They’ll have even the prickliest of readers thinking that maybe what the universe has in store isn’t all that bad after all. And they show readers how a sequel is done. So, here’s to do-overs. Here’s to Arthur and Ben.

Here’s to Us releases December 28. Pre-order your copy here.

‘The Witcher’ Recap: Season 2, Episode 5 “Turn Your Back”

Things are ramping up in the second half of season 2 right away, and there is a lot of content in episode 5. We finally get to hear Ithlinne’s prophecy and understand who Ciri really is. We also discover a new breed of monsters has arrived on the Continent, and that Ciri has a fire-wielding team of enemies hunting her. Yennefer will have to figure out a way to rescue Jaskier from the fire-wielding mage while Ciri must figure out a way to convince Vesemir to allow her to go through the Trial of Grasses.

Fake Marriage Trope To The Rescue

New characters Rience and Lydia are introduced this episode, with Rience being revealed to be the mysterious fire mage from episode 4. Rience is doing what will turn the entire fandom against him by tortuting Jaskier — seeking information about Geralt of Rivia in order to locate Ciri. Anyone could be Rience’s employer — although Dijkstra, Emperor Emhir, or Eredin and the Wild Hunt seem the most likely suspects there. Luckily, Yennefer comes at just the right time to pretend to be Jaskier’s drunken wife. Blowing a fireball back into Rience’s face, the unlikely pair are able to escape and run to safety in Oxenfurt.

Yennefer’s Answer

Yennefer and Jaskier are separated once again, as running around the streets in bright purple is generally not the best fleeing outfit choice. The crone from the cabin with no doors visits Yennefer again, and this time Yennefer decides to seek out answers, uttering the incantation to transport her to the hut. This time Yennefer asks what’s really on her mind — how can she get her powers back? Amongst various instructions, the crone reveals that Yennefer will have to capture and use Ciri to get her powers back. Surely Yennefer wouldn’t sacrifice the young princess Geralt cares for for selfish gain … or would she?

Elder Blood Drive

Triss and Vesemir convince Ciri to donate some of her blood in order to confirm their theories — that she has elder blood coursing through her veins and that her blood can be used to spawn a new generation of Witchers. If correct, preparing Ciri’s blood correctly could create the chemicals needed to create more Witchers. It turns out, of course, that Triss and Vesemir are correct and a new group of Witchers could soon be on the way with this discovery. The one catch to the plan is that Ciri demands to be the first one to be put through the Trial of Grasses, which can obviously lead to dire consequences. As we know, convincing Ciri to change her mind once it is made up is an incredibly difficult task.

A Dive Into Ciri’s Consciousness

Ciri is obviously struggling with a lot of these realizations about herself, feeling overwhelmed in the fact that she has no one in her family left to give her the answers she desperately wants. Fortunately for Ciri, Triss is around to offer a form of guided meditation through the deepest parts of her subconscious mind. The pair eventually make their way to Lara Dorren, an elven sage, who is kneeling and clutching to a newborn while wounded and presumably dying. In an unexpected and creepy twist, Lara begins to interact with the pair, clutching Triss by her throat. Ciri does nothing to help Triss, as she is too focused on listening to Ithlinne’s prophecy and watching the Wild Hunt. It is during this prophecy that we discover Ciri is a Daughter of Chaos, a descendent of Lara Dorren, giving reason to her elder blood.

A Scream Felt Across The Continent

Overwhelmed with emotion, Ciri is pushed to scream out to Geralt for help. Conveniently, at the same moment Geralt and Istredd are at the monolith and are able to feel the ground shake as Ciri’s scream is felt across the Continent. The answer to the current growing monster population is answered as a result, proving Geralt and Istredd right — the monoliths act as a beacon to monsters and once the monolith was shattered new monsters emerged. Once the dream ends, Triss is truly shaken from the experience and immediately lashes out at Ciri, telling Ciri she is “a seed that bursts into flames … you’ll destroy us all!”

Reassurance

With their official business wrapped, Istredd informs Geralt that Yennefer is actually alive and survived the Battle of Sodden Hill. Despite showing a mixture of emotions — joy, shock, worry — Geralt doesn’t have time to digest this news or act on it as he needs to return to Ciri at Kaer Morhen. Back in Nilfgaard, Istredd discovers Ciri’s recorded bloodline only goes as far back as Fiona and discovers to pay some information brokers a visit to attempt to uncover more. Meanwhile, Geralt returns to Kaer Morhen just as Ciri is about to undergo the Trials, putting his foot down and stopping this once and for all. In another tender moment between the freshly formed father-daughter duo, Geralt reassures Ciri that she is extraordinary and good, and that Triss is wrong about her.

The Witcher season 2 is streaming now on Netflix.

Alexander Skarsgård Is Fierce in the First Trailer For ‘The Northman’

0

With this first look at the The Northman, director Robert Eggers is back with a vengeance! As the Northman himself, Alexander Skarsgård looks ready to take on anyone that would stand in his way. This ferocious and dynamic trailer will take viewers on a journey back in time.

The story of The Northman is a tale you may find somewhat familiar. The film begins with a young Viking prince living a happy life. Soon, this life is turned upside down when his father is attacked and killed by someone very familiar to him. After witnessing this betrayal, the prince has no other choice than to go into hiding waiting for the day he can avenge his father, save his mother, and kill his father’s murderer.

Fans of Shakespeare’s most popular tragedy Hamlet may be thinking, “I’ve heard this story before.” Director Eggers has taken inspiration from the original legend that actually inspired Shakespeare. After Eggers’ success with his past films The Witch and The Lighthouse, viewers can be sure that The Northman will be a unique experience. The trailer has given us some dynamic visuals that will have chills running down your spine.

This movie has a very interesting cast, to say the least, with Alexander Skarsgård in the demanding main role as the Northman. Joining Skarsgård will be Anya Taylor-Joy, William Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, Claes Bang, Björk, and Nicole Kidman. With so many of Hollywood’s heavy hitters bringing some notable mythological characters to life, this will no doubt be a movie to add to your must-watch list.

After watching this trailer, to say I am looking forward to this movie is an understatement. The ferocious vibes alongside such powerhouse performers will be amazing to see. The True Blood fan in me can’t help but point out the fact the Alexander Skarsgård, who played Eric Northman, is in a movie literally called The Northman as a Viking. Hopefully some other Eric fans are nerding out with me over this!

Fans can look for The Northman to be heading to theaters on April 8, 2022. Make sure to follow Nerds & Beyond to stay up to date!

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’: ‘Angel’ Alums Julie Benz and Amy Acker to Guest Star in Season 3

With 9-1-1: Lone Star‘s third season only two weeks away, the series has cast some Angel vets to appear in some upcoming episodes! Julie Benz and Amy Acker will both guest star in season 3 and have some interactions with Rob Lowe’s Owen.

According to TV Insider, Benz, who recurred as Darla throughout the Buffy spinoff’s five-season run, will first appear in the premiere episode as artist Sadie. As an outdoors woman with the humility and wonder of a naturalist, she has the swagger and brass as a native Texan. Sadie is in the cabin next to Owen’s in the hill country

“Sadie is there for this first adventure [of the ice storm hitting Austin], and she absolutely could come back at some point,” executive producer and co-showrunner Tim Minear told TV Insider. “Owen and Sadie are not really a romantic coupling so much as two formidable self-assured people who find each other in a moment of crisis.”

Acker, meanwhile, who starred in Angel as Fred and then Illyria, will show up in the fifth episode of season 3 as chief of staff to the governor of Texas, Catherine. She is an alpha, accomplished, beautiful, and formidable and will appear in multiple episodes.

“She’s in the political world in sort of a rarified space,” Minear said. “She’s somebody who will come into Owen’s orbit,” and their dynamic is also “super fun and sexy.”

Aside from Angel, Julie Benz can be seen in Hawaii Five-0 and Dexter, while Amy Acker can be seen in Suits and The Gifted, among other projects.
