‘Resident Alien’ Recap: Season 2, Episode 2 “The Wire”

Harry (Alan Tudyk) amplifies his efforts to find a way to protect Asta (Sara Tomko) from being killed with the other humans when his people come to complete the mission. According to the octopus (Nathan Fillion), that could be in a matter of weeks – wow, this is a weird sentence.

Meanwhile, Max (Judah Prehn) is undergoing puberty at an accelerated rate, also at an early age, thanks to one of the silver alien balls. D’Arcy (Alice Wetterlund) debuts a new hair color while taking Asta away from work to have a relaxing and friend bonding day on the water. Oh, and Patience now has a murder tour!

Suspect Number Harry

SYFY

The Sheriff (Corey Reynolds) and Deputy (Elizabeth Bowen) keep a close eye on Harry as they suspect that he killed Sam Hodges and framed Sam’s wife, Abigail. To make more friends in town, at the suggestion of Asta, Harry joins in a poker game with some of the residents of Patience. At the poker game, Sheriff Mike is wearing a wire with Deputy Liv in the vehicle making notes. It is revealed by Nurse Ellen (Diana Bang) that Harry once had his cabin up for sale but backed out suddenly.

Later, the law enforcement duo goes to the cabin and asks Asta, who answered the door, where Harry is and not to protect him. Seeing a loose floorboard, they lift it. There is a red cooler with the toxin used to kill Sam. Asta finally tells them that Harry is in the basement. But that is not who they find when they get there.

Operation Save Asta

SYFY

Harry experiences a nightmare where all the humans are either dead or mutated, enter mutated D’Arcy telling him that Asta is dead because of him. Harry starts to dig a hole in his cellar. With a decent-sized hole dug, he drops one of the silver balls in and down a ladder to a fully built and secure bunker. Talking with the octopus (who I think needs a name), he says he plans to keep Asta here so that she won’t die when his people come.

Asta visits Dan (Gary Farmer), who is working on a boat, and he shares his wisdom, including the comment that she is the reason that everyone is alive and is remaining alive (no pressure there, Asta).

Going to the cabin with pizza, of course, because he has a surprise, Asta sees lights flashing and goes to the basement. Seeing the ladder, she goes down it and is now in the fully stocked bunker. He starts to give her a tour, including a wall where he drew her friends and family but dead. He says this is where they will be safe when his people kill everyone. Back upstairs, she freaks out and tells him to call them and tell them not to come. She does not want to be without her friends and family. She takes a toaster and goes to the bathroom, saying that she will kill herself if he doesn’t call his people. Harry goes to her in the bathroom, and Asta is standing in a tub of water with the toaster plugged in and on. As she is about to drop it, he agrees. Unbeknownst to him, she had the power off for the plug. Talk about a major bluff.

‘Still Working 9 to 5’ Documentary Starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dabney Coleman to Premiere at SXSW + Watch the Trailer Now

0

Still Working 9 to 5, the feature documentary starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dabney Coleman, will have its world premiere at SXSW! Still Working 9 to 5 will explore why workplace inequality is no laughing matter in the 40 years since the comedy, 9 to 5, was released.

The 1980 film is an enduring part of American history cinema, a beloved comedy that addresses serious subject matter. Generations of women know every lyric to the iconic theme song that became an anthem for working women since its original release. An anthem for women who seek fairness, equality, and dignity from their male counterparts. After more than 40 years, the feature documentary Still Working 9 to 5 celebrates the iconic film, while chronicling the impact it had on the women’s movement of the time and how it echoes through to today’s struggles for women.

Still Working 9 to 5 reunites stars Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dabney Coleman from the original 9 to 5, as well as Rita Moreno from the 9 to 5 TV series, Allison Janney from the Broadway musical, and other stars from the television and stage versions of the classic film. The documentary also features activists and individuals closely associated with the women’s movement both now and then.

Still Working 9 to 5 explores the comedic tone of the film and the way it resonated with a wide audience at a time when the feminist message was rejected and feared by much of the population. It also examines how the success of the film spawned various 9 to 5 spin-offs including a TV series (1980s) and musicals (2009, 2019), discusses the same issues addressed in the film, and questions whether the message retains its original poignancy, while also examining what has and has not changed for women in the workplace over the last 40 years.

Sure to be a hit, the film also includes a musical surprise. In addition to the world premiere of Still Working 9 to 5, there will also be a very special musical surprise for audiences. A new duet of the “9 to 5” theme song will debut, produced by Shane McAnally and performed by Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson.

The creative team behind the project includes Creative Team director/producers Camille Hardman (HGTV’s Restored, Big Dreamers) and Gary Lane (Hollywood to Dollywood), executive producers Larry Lane (Hollywood to Dollywood) Steve Summers (Netflix’s Heartstrings), Shane McAnally (Songland and multi Grammy winner), Regina K Scully (Phoenix Rising), Geralyn Dreyfous (Allen v Farrow), and editors Oreet Rees (Playground) and Elisa Bonora (Glen Campbell: Here I Am, David Crosby: Remember My Name).

Still Working 9 to 5 will be screening at SXSW at the below times:

WATCH: Lily James and Sebastian Stan Talk ‘Pam & Tommy’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

0

Lily James and Sebastian Stan appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night ahead of the premiere of their new limited series, Pam & Tommy.

Pam & Tommy is set in the “Wild West” early days of the internet, following the infamous true story of the sex tape of Pamela Anderson (James) and Tommy Lee (Stan). After it was stolen from the couple’s home by a disgruntled contractor (Seth Rogen), the video evolved from an underground bootleg-VHS curiosity to a full-blown global sensation once it made its way onto the web in 1997.

James and Stan chatted with Kimmel about all things Pam & Tommy, including James’ lack of eyebrows on set versus Stan’s lack of clothing throughout the show. They reflected on their excitement for people to learn things they may not have known about the story of the sex tape and how terrifying it was to portray real life people. In order to properly mimic Anderson and Lee’s voices, both actors made a habit of screaming into pillows between scenes (and Stan also did some solo karaoke to Mötley Crüe and Billy Joel). Stan revealed a set of steel balls “used” for his role, presenting them to Kimmel. Both also discussed how this was their first time working with Seth Rogen and one another and how they stayed in-character while on set.

Watch the full interview below.

This eight-part Hulu Original Series is a love story, a crime caper, and a cautionary tale that explores the intersection of privacy, technology and celebrity by tracing the origins of the world’s current Reality TV Era back to a stolen tape that was seen by millions but meant to have an audience of just two.

The first three episodes of Pam & Tommy are now streaming exclusively on Hulu in the United States, on Disney+ under the Star hub internationally, and on Star+ in Latin America. The remaining five episodes will premiere on a weekly basis, with the next set to arrive on February 9. Read our review of the series here.
