‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’ Spin-off in the Works

Even before Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse premieres on December 14 this year, Sony Pictures has already announced that there will not only be a sequel, but an actual spin-off following the highly-anticipated animated movie. The film will introduce audiences to multiple Spider-Man universes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creative team-consisting of people like Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery, who have both worked for the critically acclaimed Netflix series Voltron- are rumored to be part of working on an all-female spin-off with a possible focus on Spider-Gwen. There have also been rumors about including other fan-favorites like Spider-Girl, Madame Web and Silk.

Following the success of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) as well as the Spider-Verse film Venom (2018), Sony are making sure their web of planned sequels and stories is well-spun and ready to trap fans who have been excited about the new adventures in the Spider-Verse since the extended preview in form of a post-credit scene after Venom (2018).
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was already highly anticipated before but, the idea of an all-female sequel, which will offer new fans and array of superheroes and will present the audience a new form of diversity comic-based action movies have been severely lacking – with a few exceptions.

We can’t wait to find out which journey Spider-Man will take us on next!

Netflix’s “Castlevania” Gets Third Season; Adi Shankar Talks Season 2

Netflix’s widely popular “Castlevania” series received a ten-episode third season order from Netflix in October. (Image courtesy of Netflix)

The popular Netflix series Castlevania, fresh off its successful season season released in October, has been greenlit for a ten-episode third season.

The news broke Oct. 31, with a well-timed announcement from the official Twitter account:

Showrunner Adi Shankar, a self-professed “huge fan” of the Konami game series the show is based on, said adapting Castlevania for Netflix was a great experience.

“Adapting the video game for a season platform, I think we’re the first ones,” Shankar said in a phone interview. “Season 1 was all about building out a production pipeline and I think getting that machinery up and running, cause we really wanted to use that 2D hand-drawn look and style, so I think once we had that up and running, we got to really fine tune it in season 2 and now there’s a whole machine.”

Castlevania follows the story of Trevor Belmont (voiced by Richard  Armitage), the last of the Belmont clan who have dedicated their lives to protecting the citizens of Wallachia from supernatural beings like Vlad Dracula Tepes (Graham McTavish of Outlander fame) and his minions, leading to the clan being excommunicated from the Church.

In addition to Armitage and McTavish, the show also features James Callis (Battlestar Galatica, Bridget Jones) as Alucard Tepes, son of Dracula; Emily Swallow (Supernatural, The Mentalist) as Lisa Tepes, wife of Dracula; Tony Amendola (Stargate SG-1, Once Upon a Time) as The Elder, the leader of a group of Speakers; Alejandra Reynoso (Winx Club) as Sypha Belnades, a Speaker and the Elder’s granddaughter; and Matt Frewer (Max Headroom, Orphan Black) as The Bishop, a clergyman who orders the burning of Lisa Tepes for witchcraft.

Season 2 welcomed new faces (and voices) with Theo James (Divergent, Underworld) as Hector, a devil forgemaster for Dracula; Adetokumboh M’Cormack (Lost, Heroes) as Issac, another devil forgemaster and Dracula loyalist; Jamie Murray (Dexter, Warehouse 13, The Originals) as Carmilla, a vampire mistress and member of Dracula’s war council; and Peter Stormare (Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Prison Break) as Godbrand, a barbarian vampire warlord.

Shankar said it’s hard to pick only one cast member he was excited to get on board with the show.

”There’s so many wonderful actors that we have, so many,” Shankar stated. “Getting Richard Armitage was awesome, really really awesome. He was one of the early cast members, as well as Graham McTavish.”

Shankar said casting Callis as Alucard was pretty exciting because Callis “pulled it off.”

”In his audition tapes, he’d originally auditioned for Trevor Belmont,” Shankar revealed, “and he was totally wrong for Trevor, but listening to his audition tape, I remember going ‘Oh my god, he would kill it as Alucard,’ and he did.”

Shankar said he was very hands-on in creating the look of the show and the costumes were his favorite part of the design process.

“Especially in season 1, it was all about setting the look, the tone, the vibe, of the world,” Shankar said. “The games give you such a great blueprint of what to do and how it can be done…but the characters in the games have that fancy dress, tights, outfits, that I really had fun adapting that look and bringing that look into the Castlevania anime universe.”

Veteran comic book writer and Castlevania executive producer Warren Ellis has been a part of the project since 2007, when he was approached by Frederator Studios (My Life as a Teenage Robot, The Fairly Oddparents) to write an animated film adaptation of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, which would also serve as the basis for the Netflix series. Ellis is the co-creator of several original comics series including Red, which was adapted into two feature films starring Bruce Willis, and is the writer of the Iron Man story arc “Extremis,” which was the basis for Marvel’s Iron Man 3, starring Robert Downey Jr.

Ellis wrote every episode of both seasons, and Shankar said it was a dream come true to work with him.

“He’s one of my heroes, as a creative, he’s one of my heroes,” Shankar said. “I really really look up to him…(having him onboard) makes things really easy because every time he hands in a script, it’s perfect. And also, you learn a lot from Warren because he’s, I would argue, one of the best writers in the world.”

Shankar said he’s learned a lot from working with Ellis over the last couple years on the show.

”The way he uses humor, I think it’s like a textbook example of how one uses humor to heighten dramatic tension,” Shankar said.

Shankar ended with thanking the fans, calling the whole experience a “dream come true.”

”The fans just really got behind the show and turned it into this juggernaut and it’s really awesome,” Shankar said. “Just thank you.”

Seasons 1 and 2 of Castlevania are now streaming on Netflix.

Bohemian Rhapsody: A Queen Fan’s Perspective

We’re three weeks past the release of the Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. Since then, there have been numerous articles, thinkpieces, and social media posts nitpicking the differences between the film and reality. To these people I say: it’s not real life, it’s a movie (dare I say: just fantasy).

It’s very rare for real life events to fit a typical three act structure that is so necessary in film. This means that characters and events need to be switched around, context changed, or removed completely to fit the narrative of the story. As Queen fans, we know that the timeline was off, that Freddie and Jim didn’t meet that way and Freddie and Tim Staffell were friends. None of this matters in the grand scheme of the movie.

I was lucky enough to attend Breakthru, the official North American Queen convention, this summer in Detroit. The special guest this year was Peter Freestone, a long-time associate and friend of Freddie’s and a consultant on Bohemian Rhapsody. While he couldn’t tell us specifics because of a non-disclosure agreement, he did point out that the film was a docu-drama, not a documentary.  He said “you have to take off your Queen fan hat… If you spend two hours looking for things that don’t match up, you’ll miss a wonderful movie.” I kept that in mind as I watched, and he was right. If I had nitpicked through the entire movie, I would have missed the amazing details in Garden Lodge, the band teasing Roger about I’m In Love With My Car, and the fact that I’m pretty sure they cloned Brian May just for this movie.

So as a message to all fans: take off your super-fan hat sometimes and enjoy the media they give you. It’s a gift.

‘Supernatural’ Stars Run the Amica Seattle Marathon and Raise Over $240k for Childhood Hunger

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months, you would have seen that several members of the Supernatural cast have been preparing to run 26.2 miles in the Amica Seattle Marathon. Yesterday, November 25 was the day, and members of the team – dubbed ‘The Bad Idea Tour’ – ran in the marathon. The team included Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, Rob Benedict, Rachel Miner, Adam Fergus, Jason Manns, Vicki Vantoch, Genevieve Padalecki, and Charlie Capen.

The Bad Idea Tour team ran the marathon yesterday in order to support Random Acts annual Endure For Kindness event to raise money towards eradicating childhood hunger. A heartbreaking statistic stating 1 in 6 children in America do not know where their next meal is coming from has been disclosed by both Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins in recent social media posts leading up to the marathon, highlighting why this particular cause is so important.

Random Acts set up a collection table at the marathon headquarters to take donations of canned goods for Move For Hunger, which is a non-profit organization that collects non-perishable food items to deliver to food banks all across America.

At the time of this Tweet, there were 338 cans of food donated!

Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Adam Fergus, Rob Benedict, Jason Manns, Rachel Miner, and Charlie Capen all started the race Sunday morning at 10:30EST. Fans on-scene reported that they quickly broke off into teams with Jared and Jensen in the lead, Misha and Adam in the middle, and Rob and Jason holding their own at the back.

Genevieve Padalecki, Vicki Vantoch, and Charlie Capen all finished the half marathon. Genevieve ran the race with a total course time of 01:45:20, keeping an impressive pace of 08:03 minutes per mile. Vicki Vantoch, author and wife of Misha Collins, also finished with a total course time of 03:13:54.

Charlie Capen started the full marathon, but later explained on Twitter he was happy to have been beaten by Genevieve in the half. He too made great time, finishing with a total time of 02:50:46 – including the time taken to push Rachel Miner to the five-mile mark before she started helping out at the Random Acts water station.

According to Rachel herself, “[Charlie] pushed me up some of the very toughest steepest inclines in the race, refusing help. He is a champion among champions, deserving of all the medals

Plenty of fans lined the streets of the race, but they were not the only ones there to support the team. Alaina Huffman and Ruth Connell were also on hand to cheer the Bad Idea Tour team on.

Both Misha Collins and Jason Manns took the time to share photos with fans during the race.

As tired as they may look above, all three groups of men finished the marathon in the same order they started out in. Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles – brothers both on and off-screen – ran the entire race side-by-side, finishing the exact same way with a high five as they crossed the finish line together at the 04:33:42 mark.

Danneel Ackles shared the heartwarming moment on Instagram.

Everybody who finished both marathons up until then stayed on-site to cheer for Adam Fergus and Misha Collins as they crossed the finish line next, less than ten minutes later at 04:42:46. Several fans on-scene reported Collins looked to be in pain as he crossed the finish line, and a Tweet sent out by Collins later confirmed why that was with photographic evidence.

Ouch!

Rob Benedict and Jason Manns were the last members to complete the marathon, but still made great time with a time of 05:29:56. They, too, crossed the finish line together, both with big smiles on their faces.

Benedict shared this inspirational message on Instagram not long after.

As impressive and astounding as it is that all members of the Bad Idea Tour team managed to complete the marathon, perhaps more importantly was the money raised. The Bad Idea Tour team pledged to match donations of up to $100,000, and according to the Crowdrise page, they have raised more than $115,000 so far!

Amica Insurance, sponsor of the Seattle Marathon, made social media posts pledging to donate a dollar for each like or share up up to $26,200. They announced Saturday that the goal was met, and Random Acts was presented with the check for the full $26,200 at a livestream event the day before the marathon.

201.5 miles collectively run by 10 team members along with countless support from fans both in Seattle and scattered all over the world came together to raise over $240,00 dollars for Random Acts to help put an end to child hunger. The time, perseverance, and overwhelmingly large hearts of everybody involved in the Amica Seattle Marathon yesterday is a testament to why exactly the Supernatural fandom is one like no other.

It is because the cast of Supernatural is like no other.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Amica Seattle Marathon yesterday, everyone who donated, everyone who joined in with their own E4K, everyone who used social media to spread the word about this momentous occasion, and, of course, to the Bad Idea Tour team. It is safe to say this turned out to be one the best ideas the cast has ever had.

If you have not already, you can still make a donation to the Bad Idea Tour here.

7 ‘Supernatural’ Deaths That Still Make Us Cry

0

They say two things are inevitable: death and taxes. If you ask the Winchester brothers, they’d probably tell you at least one of those things is avoidable. The other tends to follow them around like a plague.

Gabriel’s “death” in ‘Hammer of the Gods’. Courtesy of the CW.

Having died a few times themselves, their deaths don’t really hit viewers as hard now. For Sam and Dean, death is just a quick rest stop on the way to a goal. So we won’t highlight the deaths of the Winchester brothers here because, while some of the ends they’ve met over the years have tugged at the heart strings, we’ve learned that death is one of the few things that can’t keep these two down. The same seems to ring true for Castiel, though Cas and Misha fans all over the world probably felt that angel blade through the heart at the end of season 12.

This is all about the people whose deaths–while maybe not entirely permanent–are unforgettable and unforgivable.

Here are seven Supernatural deaths that still make us cry:

7. Kevin Tran

Kevin was one of the most lovable characters to ever exist on Supernatural. It makes sense since he was portrayed by the equally lovable Osric Chau. His innocence turned into snarky annoyance over the course of fulfilling his destiny and it just kept getting better. Unfortunately, Kevin sealed his fate when he gave Dean a spell that would allow him to speak with a human possessed by an angel without the angel knowing. The human was Sam and he was possessed by the angel Gadreel. Gadreel caught wise and killed Kevin, burning his soul from his body.

Courtesy of the CW

We did get Kevin back in season 13, but he was a twitch version from the apocalypse world. He didn’t last long, though. He died after he used himself as a suicide bomb against Jack, Mary, and the angel hunters.

6. Bobby Singer

Surrogate father to the boys, Bobby Singer was the grouchy old guy that everyone knows and loves. He’s the kind of guy who is always there when you need him, though you better believe he’s going to complain about it. This was right up until he took a bullet from Dick Roman. On the brink of death, Bobby manages to wake up long enough to write down the numbers he’d taken from Dick’s office. He smiled at the boys and affectionately called them idjits.

Courtesy of the CW

The hope on Dean’s face is probably one of the most heartbreaking things about this because it melts the second Bobby passes out and the heart monitor flat-lines. The last memory Bobby has is of the boys arguing over movie snacks. He watches until the memory fades away and I’m still not okay about it.

It should be noted that Bobby is another character that returned via Apocalypse World last season, and while the Winchester boys did not exist in this world, it seems that this version of Bobby has taken a shine to them already. And while we are glad to see this beloved character return, it doesn’t make his death hurt any less.

5. Crowley

Crowley was a complex character, leaning towards chaotic evil but slowly moving his way to chaotic good and becoming a fan-favorite along the way. The King of Hell had a rough fall from the throne and ended up becoming a Winchester ally. As most of their allies end up realizing, being friends with the Winchesters means you eventually have to partake in a kamikaze mission to help them. When the spell to trap Lucifer required a life, Crowley took his own, but only after telling Lucifer off (which was quite enjoyable).

Courtesy of the CW

To be honest, there wasn’t really a whole lot left for the character of Crowley, so it was a fair end. Unfortunately, I feel like his sacrifice was overshadowed by the death of Castiel that quickly followed in the same episode.

4. Charlie Bradbury

Charlie was another fan-favorite character who also returned to us last season. When Charlie first came on our screens, she provided representation for the LGBTQ+ community that was sorely missing from Supernatural at the time. She died valiantly, but her death was not taken well. Unwilling to give the Styne family the Book of the Damned, she sent all her translated information to Sam and Dean in an email and, immediately afterward, smashed her computer (which seemed superfluous but was great for drama). All she had on her was a knife as she faced down Eldon Styne. We don’t actually see her death, but Sam and Dean finding her dead body bloodied in a bathtub was nearly as bad. Her return last season was well received by fans, but it will still be hard to move past this one.

3. Gabriel

Twice! Twice now we have lost this lovable angel/trickster. Both times, he was murdered by one of his brothers. First was Lucifer, bag of dicks that he is, stabbed him. Though to be fair, Gabriel had planned to do the same to him, but Lucifer is the devil so…

Eight years later, we learn that Lucifer only killed a copy of Gabriel and that our adorable Gabe was able to escape. Unfortunately, his plan didn’t end well when he was caught by Asmodeus and made into nothing more than a grace-dispenser. We were allowed to have him alive for ten episodes. Ten episodes! Then that angel threw himself on the proverbial blade for the Winchesters (as angels do) and died at Michael’s hand.

Courtesy of the CW

Hoping we get to see AU Gabe or something because we need this snarky, dirty angel.

1. & 2. Ellen and Jo

This one… this one is hardest for me to get through. Running from hellhounds, Jo goes back to save Dean and ends up getting attacked herself. Claws cut through her side, leaving her losing blood at an alarming rate. Holed up in a hardware store, she comes to terms with the fact that she isn’t going to make it much quicker than Dean, Sam, and Ellen do. She tells them to build a bomb and then the door will be unchained so the remaining hellhounds can come in. She’ll sit there with her finger on the button to blow them up, buying the others more time to get to the devil.

Building the bomb takes too long and Jo is barely holding on. Ellen chooses to stay, saying that someone has to let the dogs in and Jo can’t move. She unchains the door, removes the salt line, and turns on the propane. Wrapping an arm around Jo, she tells her that she’ll always love her. Jo tries to respond, but passes away in Ellen’s arms. With her daughter gone, Ellen succumbs to the tears, but keeps telling Jo it’s okay, kissing the top of her head.

Courtesy of the CW

When the hellhounds come in and she feels the breath of one against her hair, Ellen pushes the button on the bomb, blowing the hell out of the hardware store and the hellhounds.

Knowing that those two are probably in a heaven together that looks like the Roadhouse is the only thing that gives me any peace about this.

With the introduction of the AU last season, we could still see new versions of our favorite characters come back, like we have with Kevin, Charlie, and Bobby.

Do you agree with this list? What deaths leave you a snotty, crying mess every time you re-watch them? Let us know in the comments!

‘Bad Blood’ Season 2, Episode 7: “Lupara Cosoleto”

0
Kim Coates as Declan in ‘Bad Blood’. Image courtesy of IMDB

In the penultimate episode of Bad Blood season two, a lot of storylines were lined up with a lead in to what is sure to be an epic battle in the final episode next week.

Declan (Kim Coates) is assessing how to get to the twins now that he knows where they live, the condo building has high security but only one garage door. Instead of him going in and getting to them, he is going to wait until they leave. Declan calls Bobby (Brandon Oakes) to start with the plan. Bobby goes into Nats (Dylan Taylor) jail cell and apologizes to him before he severely beats him.

Reggie (Ryan McDonald) seems to be getting back to his old self and is in the kitchen making eggs benedict for Twix (Ajuawak Kapashesit) and Rose (Sharon Taylor) before they go meet Declan.

At Valentina’s house, Enzo (Daniel Kash) is there holding his grandson on the phone sounding distraught talking to the cops reporting her missing. When the police are there taking his statement, he tells them she was depressed because her husband is in jail and was drunk at her sons first birthday party. As Enzo is about to leave, he gets a phone call from the prison informing him that his son is in intensive care from being beaten. He goes to rush out the door to be by his sons’ side when Declan is there pointing a gun at him. Declan tells Enzo that he holds Nats protection and if he wants his son to be safe, he will go to the RCMP and tell them everything. Enzo agrees but only if he leaves Luca out if it, Declan then texts Domenic (Louis Ferreira) telling him to come to the house in a hurry. When he gets there, Enzo tells him what happened to Nats and that he is going to tell the police everything. Domenic tells him that Nats can handle the beatings and that he will take care of the family, Enzo angrily says

“Like you took care of Val?”

Domenic has been trying to call his son, but Luca (Franco Lo Presti) is ignoring his father’s calls still upset with him for killing Valentina. He goes to his son’s place and bangs on the door until Luca answers and tells him to pack a bag. They argue about Nats and Val, Domenic tells his son he just wants him safe. While everything is happening, Luca is at the farm trying to get a hold of his father to see what to do next.

Domenic goes to see Teresa (Anna Hopkins) and Christian (Johnny Falcone) at their condo and tells them everything that is happening and says it is all because of them. He tells the twins that his brother is going to turn rat after Nats was assaulted in prison. The twins want both Enzo and Nats killed, Domenic agrees but does not want anyone touching his son. While they start talking strategy, Christian shoots and kills Domenic.

Declan drives Enzo to the RCMP and he tells Declan he hopes he kills the twins for all the problems they brought to his family. When they get there Declan tells him to go find Detective Nellie Bullock, who Enzo is familiar with.

Ken (Eric Hicks) shows Detective Bullock (Lisa Berry) a missing person’s report that Enzo filled on Valentina. Later, when Detective Bullock looks up from her desk, she is shocked to see that Enzo Cosoleto is there wanting to talk to her. She tells her Captain (Phil Luzi) that Declan came to see her and about the gift comment he made. With his lawyer Renata (Angela Asher) present Enzo says he will tell her everything she wants as soon as his son is transferred to a white-collar prison and is safe. While she is working on it a present is on her desk with an address, her captain tells her the prints matched Teresa Langana so she figures the address is to her and that is Declan’s gift. The police get to the condo and burst in, but the twins are in one of the other condos they rented beside them and sneak to the garage.

The twins get in two different vehicles and leave, with Declan, Rose and Twix following them. Teresa calls Declan and when they are talking, she hears a train, the same train she is near. She calls her brother and tells him they are being followed. Declan is shooting at Christian’s vehicle and Teresa tells Siro (Wole Daramola) to turn around so they can go help him. Declan kills Christian as his sister gets there, they have to leave Chrisitan’s body behind.

Back at Rose’s Declan is patching her arm up where she was shot, Rose kisses him and the sleep together. What they do not know is that the bikers are on her property calling Teresa saying they found them. She tells Siro to delay the helicopter and goes to deal with Declan on her own wanting to kill them all.

Tune in next week for the Bad Blood season two finale.
