It looks like Martin is getting some fresh air during a visit with Malcolm. It looks like he is back at Claremont and tethered to the building for good measure. What with his ‘escape’ attempt last season, who can blame the facility for going to extra mile to ensure he stays put.
What are you most looking forward to in season 2? Let us know in the comments below! Prodigal Son returns to FOX on January 12 at 9/8 p.m. C.
With FOX’s first responder dramas 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star returning in just two weeks, the network has announced a premiere date for the highly-anticipated crossover between the two shows. The Wrap exclusively learned that the event will take place on Monday, February 1 and will be the third episodes of both season 4 of 9-1-1 and season 2 of Lone Star.
The crossover will start with 9-1-1 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT and continuing into Lone Star the following hour, with that episode, titled “Hold the Line,” containing most of the crossover. According to FOX, Hen, Buck and Eddie will be traveling from their Los Angeles firehouse 118 to help out the members of the 126 in Austin as they fight a massive wildfire. Fans should expect favorites from 9-1-1 and Lone Star to be paired off together during the crossover, with most hoping for a scene or two between Buck and Eddie from 9-1-1 with T.K. and Carlos from Lone Star.
Official news of the crossover first came in November when showrunner Tim Minear surprised fans on Twitter with a first look where Buck and Eddie were standing next to T.K. and Marjan. Cast members from both 9-1-1 and Lone Star have been sharing behind-the-scenes photos from set during the crossover over the last couple of months, expressing their excitement that the shows will finally be crossing over.
Season 4 of 9-1-1 premieres on Monday, January 18 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on FOX, followed by the season 2 premiere of 9-1-1: Lone Star. Catch the big crossover event starting Monday, February 1 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT!

Timeless, a sci-fi series created by Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan, follows the adventures of an unlikely team that travels through time in order to stop a mysterious organization from changing major events in American history. The beloved series was consistently flanked by a dedicated fanbase during its two-season run, which successfully campaigned for its first renewal after the season 1 cancellation, and then fought for the special two-hour finale that tied up the show’s loose ends after the second season.
Now, just over two years after the finale, Play-PerView is hosting a Zoom reunion — Clockblockers Unite: A Timeless Evening — to support Feeding America. On January 23 at 7 p.m. EST, co-creator Shawn Ryan will be joined by Abigail Spencer (Lucy), Matt Lanter (Wyatt), Malcolm Barrett (Rufus), Goran Višnjić (Garcia Flynn), Sakina Jaffrey (Agent Christopher), and Paterson Joseph (Connor Mason) for a reading of the season 2 episode “Hollywoodland,” which will feature brand new material written specifically for this event. A moderated discussion and an opportunity for fans to ask questions will follow.

Nearly one year ago, FOX’s 9–1-1 spin-off, 9-1-1: Lone Star made its debut. The first season was composed of 10 episodes featuring the crew from Station 126 in Austin, Texas. With moments ranging from hilarious to heartbreaking to heartwarming, Lone Star‘s first season was anything but small.
We are rounding up some of our favorite moments from the first season before season 2 premieres in just a couple of weeks. Between the introduction of 126’s new furry friend to Grace’s emotional call with someone saying goodbye to his family, as well as a run-in with a bull and a racist neighbor, 9-1-1: Lone Star fully brought it for its freshman season!
Warning: Mild spoilers for season 1 of 9-1-1: Lone Star!
Racist Neighbor
Courtesy of FOX.
In the second episode of the season, the 126 take a call involving a family starting a fire in their yard. The said fire was actually barbacoa, steak that you grill in the ground. The previous week, the neighbor, Ellen, had made a call about her neighbors waving around bats, but it was really just a 10-year-old’s birthday party that had a piñata. Hector, her neighbor, says she may look like a sweet, old lady but she’s really an evil racist. The “old” part is what really gets to Ellen, soon correcting herself that she’s not a racist. Owen tells her he will be making a citizen’s arrest … on her, it’s illegal to make nuisance 9-1-1 calls. Just as they’re about to arrest her, Ellen starts acting like she’s having a heart attack. Marjan goes in to do mouth-to-mouth but Ellen says no. She asks Owen if he can do it and he tells her he’s not certified. She points to T.K. and his response is simply, “Sure, ma’am. But just so you know I am a homosexual.” Ellen asks Judd, who straight up says no. She tells Paul he can do it, indicating she’s not racist. She asks him if he’s homosexual and he says no. But he is trans though. Ellen gives in and tells Owen to cuff her. It’s one of the more hilarious moments from the season and also shows just how diverse the 126 is.
The Team Barricades Marjan
Courtesy of FOX.
One of the great things about both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star is seeing how much the crews are like a family. During one of the calls early on in the season, the 126 try to rescue someone in a grain silo but Marjan’s line snaps and while trying to reach out for her, T.K. goes down with her. Once they’re out, Marjan’s hijab comes off and Owen, T.K., Judd, Paul and Mateo form a wall around her while she puts it back on. The incident leaves Marjan going viral once again but also kicked out of her mosque. However, after having a talk with Paul, Marjan realizes that she should be proud of her Muslim heritage, no matter what, and proud of what she does. It’s one of the moments that show just how much of a family the 126 is, even when the series was just beginning.
The Team Helps Mateo Study
Courtesy of FOX.
Halfway through the season, Mateo has to retake his academy written exam for the fifth time. If he doesn’t pass it, he’s out. And not just out of a job, but deported since he’s a Dreamer. Due to his dyslexia, he has trouble understanding things. Since Marjan had the highest score in the firehouse, Owen tasks her with helping Mateo study. To get the job done faster, Marjan assigns T.K., Judd and Paul with different sections of the Austin FD Academy Manuel in order to help him. They record themselves going through the sections so Mateo can listen to it later, and he listens to them throughout the week, on runs, during calls, before calls, the team even wake him up in the middle of the night to give him a pop quiz. Marjan gives him advice after he reveals that he might get deported, telling him she’s going to be by his side. Everyone also shows up to his exam and meet him after he’s done, showing their full support. These moments showcase how supportive the 126 is by helping Mateo, wanting him to pass his exam, and being there for him.
There’s a Bull in a Car
Courtesy of FOX.
All deals and no bulls at Happy Stan’s Used Car Lot. That is … until a real rodeo bull, Malachi, is brought in as a promotion and starts rampaging through the lot. When the 126 pull onto the scene, they don’t see a bull but rather a bunch of injured people. The team get ready with axes and follow a trail of blood. They find the bull with its head stuck in a window and T.K. tells dispatch they have a bull in a car. (This line was actually improvised by Ronen Rubinstein!) Owen talks down the bull while T.K. and Marjan use the Jaws of Life to pry the car apart, gently, trying to not hurt him. Once they can get to the bull, Judd secures its horns with rope and frees Malachi, Animal Control taking over. It’s definitely not something you see everyday, but Rubinstein’s improvised line of “We got a bull … in a car” makes the scene that much more memorable and iconic. It was also pretty intense not knowing what was going to happen to Malachi.
Buttercup
Courtesy of FOX.
The introduction of the 126’s newest furry addition, Buttercup, was one of the highlights of the season. Buttercup is Owen’s canine companion and they have the same type of lung cancer. Everyone on the crew immediately adores Buttercup, except for T.K once he finds out the dog has cancer. T.K. neglects the pup and is rude to him, even though Buttercup quickly sees T.K. as his favorite, sleeping on his bed at night. Later though, Owen can tell that T.K. loves Buttercup. T.K. admits that he can’t fall in love with one more thing that he knows he’s going to lose. Owen tells him it’s okay to love him, even if he knows he’s going to lose him. T.K. will never forgive his dad for this, but he gives in and shows Buttercup his love. Anything involving dogs is always a great moment, but like Owen said, it’s more than the dog. Buttercup is not a symbol for his death but an affirmation of Owen’s life. Hopefully we’ll be getting more Buttercup scenes in season 2, because this dog seems like he’s here to stay.
Astronaut Call
Courtesy of FOX.
One of the most heartbreaking moments, but also a favorite, in season 1 happens in the season finale. After the solar storm, the call center is being bombarded with 911 calls and scrambling lines and Grace takes one from someone up in the International Space Station. The caller, Tom, says they were in the path of the orbit when the solar storm hit but Grace isn’t able to connect him to someone. Tom and his partner have been diagnosed with acute radiation syndrome, his partner is already dead. Tom tells her there is something she can do for him and Grace gets in contact with his wife, Melissa. Tom begins to tell her where all the bank information and insurance forms are, and Melissa realizes what’s going to happen. Their daughter, Evie, notices he’s on the phone and talks to him, and she wonders when he’s coming home. He stays strong for her, telling her to be good for her mom, and that he’ll always be with her. Tom tells his daughter to wave up at the sky, he’ll always be looking down on her, she may not be able to see him but he can see her. She tells him she’s waving and he waves back, Evie tries to talk to her dad again but he doesn’t respond back. Getting so emotionally involved in characters that are just there for a few minutes is something that both 9-1-1 series do so well. You’re rooting for them, you want them to be okay and you are sobbing by the end no matter the outcome.
T.K. Talks to the Team
Courtesy of FOX.
The aftermath of the shooting in episode eight left T.K. questioning his life choices in the final two episodes. He’s not sure if being a firefighter is really what he wants to do for the rest of his life, even though it’s what he’s wanted to do his entire life. However, after helping citizens (including a bus driver who was drowning) during an emergency crisis after the solar storm, he tells the team everything. He tells them that he’s an addict and that in New York he OD’ed on opioids and his dad, his captain, saved him. During the solar storm, at that intersection, T.K. would have given everything he had to save the bus driver. But it wasn’t enough, until Owen showed up. All of them showed up. And he knew in that instant that she was going to be okay, he would be okay because this, saving people, is what he wants to do for the rest of his life, at least for now, with them. “I choose this family.” This is where he belongs. Going through not one, but two, near-death experiences is traumatic, but even when T.K. was questioning everything he didn’t question whether or not he should try to save all those people. He immediately jumped into action, without any gear, and risked his life. It’s a touching moment between T.K. and the 126, and his dad, and we can only hope there’s more moments like these in season 2.
You can catch these moments and more with season 1 of 9-1-1: Lone Star streaming now on Hulu and the FOX NOW app. Season 2 of Lone Star premieres on Monday, January 18 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on FOX, following 9-1-1!
In anticipation of the season 2 premiere of Prodigal Son, we’ve collected some of our favorite moments of our beloved crime fighters. Of those crime fighters is our turtleneck wearing, LeMans driving, “Disappointed Dad” Lieutenant Gil Arroyo. Gil has a long history with the police force and with the Whitly family. As fans saw, Malcolm saved Gil from becoming another victim of “The Surgeon,” and ever since then, Gil has looked out for Malcolm and the rest of the Whitly’s. Gil is a passionate, courageous, and brilliant man who continuously puts others above himself. The team admires and respects Gil as their mentor, superior, and, more importantly, their friend.
In honor of Gil, here are some of his best lines:
“JT, Bright. Bright, JT. You’re not gonna like each other.”
What better way to introduce two people than letting them know they aren’t going to like each other? Gil takes care of that with this line as he introduces Malcolm to JT, as well as Dani and Edrisa, at his first crime scene. It’s a line and scene that stand out to us in the pilot episode and never fails to make us laugh.
“He’s high as a kite.”
“Disappointed Dad” Gil strikes again. When Dani and Malcolm infiltrate a club and are meeting with Estime, there are shots fired, and one of the shots explode some of the drugs in Estime’s office. Malcolm inhales some of the drugs and becomes very high. Gil appears at the crime scene and gives Dani and Malcolm a piece of his mind. Malcolm, clearly high, grabs Gil’s face. Gil notices Malcolm’s odd behavior (which is saying something). He orders Dani to escort Malcolm home.
“Do you offer that service for all your clients?”
Gil is no stranger to sassy comments, and this time is no exception. While Malcolm is testing the patience of a trainer named Jake, things get heated between the two, and Gil steps in. He asks Jake about his relationship with Crystal, the ex-wife/soon to be ex-wife. Gil says the above line to Jake with no hesitation. We love to see it.
“Not on my watch.”
In Gil’s office after a case, Malcolm expresses to Gil that he wonders if he could’ve turned out like Isaac, a troubled young teen who killed his father. Gil, with a smile, tells Malcolm that it won’t happen while he’s around. Malcolm takes comfort in that, and he knows that Gil has looked out for him for most of his life and would’ve never let him go down a dark path. This is a great line and one that showcases the depth of Gil and Malcolm’s relationship.
“If I said no, will you go home? Take a few days off?”
Malcolm and the team find more than they bargained for at a junkyard, where Malcolm’s father’s old station wagon happens to be trashed. Malcolm tells Gil that he has been having dreams/repressed memories of his father’s station wagon. Gil suggests he take some time off because he is worried about Malcolm since, especially at this point in the season, his mental health has been suffering. The station wagon is still intact, but they can’t say the same about a body (eventually bodies) that was found crushed in a car. It can’t be a coincidence, and it usually never is.
“Three simple words. I want you to repeat them after me: Call For Backup.”
Malcolm rarely listens to reason, but that doesn’t mean Gil will stop trying. Gil is peeved because Malcolm ran off to face “The Junkyard Killer” and neglected to call for backup. We don’t blame Gil for being upset, but we are worried for Malcolm’s safety going into season 2. Will Malcolm ever learn? We doubt it.
“To run into a dark tunnel alone and let him pop you like bubble wrap?”
Continuing from the last line in our list, Malcolm received injuries from his encounter with “The Junkyard Killer” due to almost being crushed in a turnstile of sorts in a dark, secluded tunnel. Gil is not holding back and delivers this hilarious line to Malcolm. He hates seeing Malcolm hurt, and he needs to ensure Malcolm understands the danger he puts himself in and tries to deter his behavior. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t work.
“Please don’t rub it in.” “Stop. Right now.”
It’s not just a car. If Gil is known for one thing, it’s his LeMans. When a bomb is discovered at a crime scene, the team evacuates, and Malcolm is left with his hands on the active bomb. To escape the active bomb, Malcolm shoots out a window and jumps out, landing on Gil’s prized possession. Back at the precinct, Gil is overcome with heartbreak, but his response to JT in this scene is hysterical.
“This family, I swear…”
Gil, JT, and Dani come to the Whitly house to ask if Malcolm had been to see Everett Sterling, who had just been shot. Malcolm says no, and that’s he’s been home on house arrest. He tells Gil he wants to help, but Gil says he can’t come along. To help, Malcolm confesses that he left the house to meet with Sterling and for the murder of Eve’s killer, Eddie. Gil shakes his head and can’t fathom the crazy antics of the Whitly’s. In the end, Malcolm got what he wanted, and that was to help on the case.
“When you spoke to him? You’re a profiler, a graduate of Quantico. You can tell when somebody’s dead.”
At the precinct where Malcolm is being questioned after confessing, Malcolm tells the team that he thinks that Eddie was already dead in his hospital room before he arrived to see him. Gil has had enough of this day and is flabbergasted that Malcolm, a former FBI agent with tons of training, didn’t know that Eddie was dead. Gil has some great one-liners, and this definitely had to make our list.
What were some of your favorites? Did they make our list? Let us know in the comments below!

Rick Riordan Presents has consistently turned out amazing books focusing on mythology and folklore from underrepresented cultures, and they’ve knocked it out the park yet again with Sarwat Chadda’s City of the Plague God.
City of the Plague God tells the story of 13-year-old Sikander Aziz who works at his family’s New York City deli. He’s an altogether unassuming character who is thrust into the world of mythological ancient Mesopotamian gods when Nergal, ancient god of disease, and his demons crash into the deli late one evening demanding something from Sik. As plague and disease infect first Sik’s parents, rendering them comatose, and begins to overtake the city, he teams up with Ishtar, goddess of war and love, and her teenage daughter Belet to unravel the mystery of what Nergal wants and rescue the city from his plagues. Sik’s journey leads him to a run in with the legendary Gilgamesh, into Kurnugi (the netherworld), and on a mission to find the Flower of Immortality.
Chadda weaves a fantastic tale that seamlessly marries a modern New York City and city mindset in Sik to the ancient Mesopotamian mythology that comes to life from the very first page. Readers will connect with Sik’s down to earth attitude. He is determined to save his parents and the city, but also struggles to reconcile his idea of a hero with how he views himself. His story is tinged with tragedy as he is still reeling from the sudden loss of his older brother, Mo. Sik is presented with many opportunities to be the traditional “battle” hero, but those are not his strengths and he knows it. Instead, Sik steps into the hero role slowly over his journey and takes every new road block and development, like accidentally becoming immortal, in stride.
Sik’s story is made all the more entertaining with the myriad of unique characters who join him. Readers will fall in love with Sik, Belet, and even the vain would-be actor Daoud! If it’s not evident from the title, City of the Plague God also features rich descriptions of plague and disease by way of Nergal, his disgusting demons, and the ever mutating humans who barely resemble humans by the end of the book. It engages both the imagination and senses; it’s almost as if you can smell the diseased demons! Chadda is a master at crafting an engaging story and building rich, vibrant worlds that readers are going to lose themselves in for hours at a time.
For any readers unfamiliar with Arabic, Islamic, and Mesopotamian terminology, Chadda has included a helpful glossary that makes referencing words while reading a breeze. It’s a little touch that makes the text more engaging, and I definitely recommend this one for any fans of mythology and action adventure stories!
