Henry Cavill has made his long-awaited, triumphant and unexpected return as the Man of Steel in Black Adam.

While Cavill’s version of the character was instantly loved by fans since his introduction in Man of Steel, he has since been tragically underutilized by Warner Bros. since — appearing in the highly controversial Batman vs. Superman as well as both the theatrical cut of The Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The character also made two cameo appearances, neither of which show his face, in Shazam! and as a silhouette in the season 1 finale of the Peacemaker series.

While we last saw Cavill’s Superman in his black resurrection suit in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, his reintroduction in Black Adam features a suit similar to his Man of Steel attire, only with brighter coloration similar to those seen traditionally in comics. While his appearance in the post-credits scene of Black Adam is short, it does indicate a much larger role in the future for the character — a face-off between the titular character and Superman, which Dwayne Johnson has indicated an interest in several times leading up to the film’s release.

Cavill can currently also be seen as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher series, which is set to release its third season Summer of next year. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream now, and more details on season 3 can be read here. Cavill will also reprise his starring role as Sherlock Holmes in the anticipated sequel to Enola Holmes, which releases on Netflix November 04. The newest trailer for the film can be viewed here.
