Avengers: Secret Wars has found its writer, and it’s not the Russo Brothers (unfortunately). Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has been tapped to pen the script for the next big Avengers installment.

The film was announced at San Diego Comic-Con as a part of Marvel’s Phase 6 alongside Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will come first on the release slate. There have been many different iterations of Secret Wars since it was introduced in the comics in 1984, giving Waldron a lot of different storylines to hopefully draw from for the film.

While Loki and its story were generally applauded, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness fell short for the majority of viewers, giving the film one of the lowest rated scores of the franchise. It sits at #25 out of all #29 MCU films on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite director Sam Raimi’s horror finesse and fantastic performances from its stars, the story fell flat. Hopefully, given plenty of time to get this script right, it will match the popularity and heart of the Avengers films before it, particularly Infinity War and Endgame.

Avengers: Secret Wars is set to release on November 7, 2025.
