Kacen Callender Announces New Book ‘Stars in Your Eyes’

Scholastic, Inc./HarperCollins/Abrams

Kacen Callender is spanning genres once more with their forthcoming adult romance novel Stars in Your Eyes!

Callender is no stranger to adult trade fiction, having released two adult SFF books, Queen of the Conquered and King of the Rising. However, Stars in Your Eyes will be Callender’s first adult romance novel. It is set to release in Fall 2023.

Per the PublishersMarketplace deal report, Stars in Your Eyes is “about a grumpy/sunshine-actor pairing forced into a fake relationship when the Hollywood veteran states that the up-and-coming golden boy has ‘zero talent’ and sends their rom-com film’s publicity into a nosedive – but as a true romance grows, the two must heal past wounds and traumas while in the spotlight.”

While we wait for next year to roll around, Callender is releasing two books for 2022. The first is a middle-grade novel titled Moonflower, releasing on July 19. It follows a child named Moon, whose depression overwhelms them and fears their mother hates them because they’re sad. To escape, Moon travels to the spirit realms — from where they hope to never return and must also help save it.

The second is a YA book titled Lark & Kasim Start a Revolution, releasing on September 27. Lark Winters is an aspiring writer who uses social media to build their platform. But when their former best friend Kasim posts a thread on Lark’s Twitter account declaring a secret, unrequited love, Lark takes the fall and gets thrust into the spotlight. Eventually, the lie begins to take its toll.

Along with the above-mentioned books, Callender is well-known throughout YA and middle grade. Their YA books include Stonewall Honor book Felix Ever After and This Is Kind of an Epic Love Story. In middle grade, they’ve written Hurricane Child and National Book Award winner King and the Dragonflies.
