‘Scream’: Sixth Installment Set to Begin Filming In June, Courteney Cox Reprising Role As Gale Weathers

Paramount Pictures

According to an exclusive podcast interview with Courteney Cox and Variety, Gale Weathers will return for the sixth installment to the Scream franchise. Cox has been portraying Gale Weathers on-screen since the beginning of the franchise in 1996.

In addition to confirming that she will be returning to the sixth installment, Cox also confirmed that filming for the movie will begin this June.

Following the massive success of this year’s requel Scream, which has earned over $100 million globally in the box office, Paramount and Spyglass decided to return to Woodsboro for a terrifying sixth installment. The creative team behind 2022’s Scream is returning, with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directing and James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick returning to pen the script. Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak will produce with Kevin Williamson, Chad Villella, Gary Barber, and Peter Oillataguerre as executive producers.

According to Cox, she received the script “yesterday.” As of now, Cox is the only member of the cast to confirm their role, although the face of the franchise Neve Campbell recently commented on her future in the franchise at the Mad Monster Party horror convention in Concord, North Carolina. During a Q&A panel that took place during the convention in February, Campbell said “They have approached me. There’s no script yet. There is a draft coming in soon is what I was told,” and continued with, “You know, we’ll see. I’ll read the script and see how I feel.”
