‘Scream’ Sequel: Dermot Mulroney Joins Cast of Upcoming Sixth Installment

There’s new blood to spill in the upcoming sixth film installment to the Scream franchise from Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding) has been cast in the sequel to 2022’s Scream. Mulroney will reportedly be playing a cop, which is probably not a great sign for the longevity of his character. Mulroney joins the cast with returning survivors from 2022 Sam, Tara, Mindy, and Chad played by Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding, respectively. In addition to the fifth installment’s returning survivors, fan-favorite from Scream 4 Kirby will return for the upcoming film, with Hayden Panettiere reprising the role.

The creative team behind 2022’s Scream is returning, with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directing and James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick returning to pen the script. Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak will produce with Kevin Williamson, Chad Villella, Gary Barber, and Peter Oillataguerre as executive producers. Production is set to begin on the film next month.

The sixth Scream installment will slash its way exclusively into theaters March 31, 2023. Stay tuned with Nerds & Beyond here for additional updates.
