‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’ Animated Series Announced for Disney+

Sony

Following the success of What If…?, Marvel Studios fans haven’t seen the last of animated projects coming to Disney+. In addition to the Disney+ Day announcement of X-Men 97 and Marvel Zombies, an animated series focusing on Peter Parker is in the works: Spider-Man: Freshman Year.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year will follow Peter Parker’s journey to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU. Hopefully, this means Spidey fans will get a look at how the MCU version of Spider-Man got his powers and became the friendly neighborhood hero so many have come to love. The series will, according to the official press release, “celebrate the character’s early comic book roots.” Jeff Trammell (Craig of the Creek) will serve as head writer for the project.

Spider-Man was introduced to the MCU with 2016’s Captain America: Civil War and was established as a sophomore in high school during Spider-Man: Homecoming, which takes place just two months after Civil War. Based on this timeline, Spider-Man: Freshman Year will chronologically take place before Captain America: Civil War.

It is unknown if Tom Holland will return to voice Peter Parker, however, Holland was notably absent from Marvel’s first animated series What If…?.
