Trailer: Netflix’s ‘Single All the Way’ Is Coming To Make Your Yuletide Gay!
This week, Netflix released the trailer for its eagerly anticipated, first ever LGBTQ+ holiday rom-com, Single All the Way.
Directed by Michael Mayer, the upcoming Christmas movie stars Michael Urie (Younger, Ugly Betty) as Peter, a perpetually single man who is about to head home for the holidays, and Philemon Chambers (Of Hearts and Castles) as Nick, his best friend. Peter convinces Nick to come home with him for Christmas to keep his overly-involved family at bay, serving up a hearty Christmas helping of the classic (and beloved) fake boyfriend trope. But this is a yuletide romantic comedy, so of course there’s a twist—Peter’s mother, played by Kathy Najimy (Hocus Pocus, King of the Hill), sets him up on a blind date with her handsome trainer James, played by Luke Macfarlane (Brothers & Sisters, Killjoys).
The trailer makes sure to showcase another big draw of the movie, beyond its gleeful embracing of tropes: Jennifer Coolidge. A much-loved LGBTQ+ icon herself, Coolidge (The White Lotus, Legally Blonde) stars in Single All the Way as Peter’s Aunt Sandy. Even in the trailer her trademark deadpan humor is on display. “The gays just know how to do stuff,” she says. “And for some reason, they’re all obsessed with me.”
Executive producer Chad Hodge said in a press release that Single All the Way represented everything he wanted to see in a holiday rom-com, right down to the cast.
“The list ran the gamut, from honestly portraying the uniqueness of gay friendships and relationships, to the often-hilarious dynamics of our families, to Jennifer Coolidge,” he explained. “I’m so grateful to Netflix for embracing all of it.”
Keep your eyes peeled for more familiar faces in the trailer, including Schitt’s Creek’s Jennifer Robertson and The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s Barry Bostwick.
Single All the Way will premiere on Netflix December 2, 2021. Watch the trailer below!
