‘Retreat’: Limited Series From ‘The OA’ Creators Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling Ordered by FX

Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling, creators of the Netflix series The OA, have teamed back up to deliver a limited series called Retreat.

As Deadline reported earlier today, FX has given the greenlight to the mystery series, in which Marling will also co-star. The show is about Darby Hart who is a Gen Z amateur sleuth that attempts to solve a murder at a secluded retreat. Hart must work to solve this murder against competing interests, all before the killer takes another life.

Batmanglij and Marling have been writing partners for over a decade. Their most recent project, The OA, told the story of Prairie, a woman who suddenly returns home after disappearing seven years earlier. Referring to herself as the OA (“original angel”), she recruits five strangers to listen to her story. She believes if they do so, they can help her jump across dimensions to return to her true love. The series was canceled in 2019 after two seasons.

In addition to The OA, the pair have also produced the movies The Sound of my Voice and The East. They will write and direct Retreat, as well as executive produce with Andrea Sperling (Transparent). FX Productions is the studio.
