TNT has announced that they are renewing their post-apocalyptic drama, Snowpiercer for season 4.

According to Deadline, season 3 had just wrapped up when the announcement was made to the cast and crew that TNT decided to renew. This marks the earliest renewal date for the series.

“All of our seasons embark on an emotional, unexpected ride, and the well-plotted storylines will continue to evolve and remain relevant to audiences. We’re excited to keep the train running into season 4,” Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain, the co-heads of scripted original programming for TBS, TNT, and truTV, commented about the renewal.

The plot of season 3 of Snowpiercer starts with a search party headed by Layton (Daveed Diggs) searching for Melanie. She was marooned from her attempt to measure the amount of melting of the Earth at a station. Such measurements are necessary to learn if life outside of the Snowpiercer might one day be possible. Instead, the series antagonist, Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean), prevented Melanie from meeting up with the train, ensuring a most certain death without oxygen and a rescue mission. While Layton tries to save Melanie, Mr. Wilford will try to seize power of the Snowpiercer.

Joining the series regulars for season 3 will be Archie Panjabi and Chelsea Harris, with Mike O’Malley added as a series cast member.

Snowpiercer was the number one show for a scripted drama in 2020 for ad-supported cable with a combined 21 million viewers across all platforms. Snowpiercer is based on the 2013 movie from Bong Joon-ho and the French graphic novels Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette.
