Focus Features has announced that the North American release date for the highly anticipated Downton Abbey 2 has been moved to March 18, 2022. Universal Pictures International will release internationally on the same date. The film was originally slated to premiere later this year on December 22.

The original principal cast has returned for the film, and new additions include Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West. The screenplay for Downton Abbey 2 comes from series creator Julian Fellowes, with Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge producing alongside Fellowes. Simon Curtis serves as director.

Whereas the first Downton Abbey film took place about a year and a half after the TV series finale, following a Royal Visit to the Crawley family and Downton staff from the King and Queen of England and ending with a spectacular ball, the plot of the second film is yet unknown. Production is set to wrap next month.
