Deadline has revealed that the HBO original series Lovecraft Country will not return for season 2. After speculation about season 2 began, HBO confirmed Misha Green and a small team of writers were working on the next premise. However, those involved ultimately decided against moving forward.

Based on the Matt Ruff novel, Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Freeman as he searches for his missing father, Montrose. He enlists the help of his childhood best friend Letitia “Leti” Lewis and his uncle George. They travel through the Jim Crow South, where they face monsters in every sense of the word. Along the way, they uncover family secrets and learn about the existence of magic.

The show initially aired in August 2020 with a 10-episode season. Misha Green created the series. It stars Jonathan Majors, Jurnee Smollet, Michael Kenneth Williams, Aunjanue Ellis, Wunmi Mosaku, Jada Harris, and more. Find our recaps and other coverage of the show here.

Lovecraft Country is streaming now on HBO Max.
